To want a toaster that.....

  1. Toasts ALL of the bread, both sides?
  2. Doesn't break in a matter of weeks?
  3. Doesn't cost the earth?
  4. Fits 4 normal sized slices of bread?

Hit me with your suggestions, please! I've looked at online reviews but they mainly seem to focus on how well it matches the bloody kettle or the kitchen curtains!

I meant toaster*

QueenOfOversharing · 08/02/2020 21:54

We had this one. Not cheap & it was shit at toasting both sides equally. I chucked it & got one to match my Fearne Cotton kettle (I know!!) but it's much better.

One of the Asda models fits a proper sized slice of bread. We've had it for a few years

k1233 · 08/02/2020 22:02

I've got a delonghi, like the blue one above but two slice in red (my favourite colour Grin). Makes the best toast. I never thought toast could be different - it's browned bread after all. But oh my, the delonghi gets it crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, not dried and horrid. Never been a fan of dried out toast and really only got the toaster as it matched the coffee machine (also had to get the kettle LOL). Cost more than I thought a toaster should cost, but the toast is good!

cookiemonster5 · 08/02/2020 22:17

My aunt actually wrapped a slice of bread in cling film and took it with her to make sure the toaster would fit it in. Slightly mad but also genius!

I want a toaster like I saw a Canadian you tuber use. Instead of flinging the toast up and sending crumbs all over the place it gracefully and gently glides up when finished.

My current 4 slice toaster toasts completely differently in each 2 sections of 2. Level 4 on the right hand 2 is perfect. On the left section however it's cremated and the house stinks all day. I feel your pain.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 08/02/2020 22:22

Feel your pain...burns one side and other side comes out raw (not the right word but you know what l mean!)

Bananaman123 · 08/02/2020 22:24

Asdas own brand, fits the large toastie bread too 25 quid i think

JaneR0chester · 08/02/2020 22:25

Dualit, we've had it for 20 years so it's great value for money now. We've never not fit any bread or roll into it.

Likefootball · 08/02/2020 23:00

Dualit.
A bit expensive but you get what you pay for.

NoRegrets123 · 08/02/2020 23:10

This is the best toaster ever. We've had it for a couple of years and it roasts all the bread.

I don't think they do a 4 slice version though, although it's fairly cheap so you could always buy two...

NoRegrets123 · 08/02/2020 23:11

*toasts not roasts

Dieu · 09/02/2020 01:09

My John Lewis one (steel, obviously) ticks all your boxes. It has lasted for years too.
My mum has a Dualit one and I find it really shit.

yeetyoik · 09/02/2020 01:46

Also fits bread nicely obviously if you put it in sideways. I know people who put the bread upright in it

Wait..you are supposed to put bread sideways in the toaster ? How did I not know this ? Aibu to go and make toast at 2am?

PenguinsOnParade · 09/02/2020 02:01

Breville Impressions.

We don't have the matching kettle but I can get the bread in sideways without effort, I can do 2 or 4 slices and always comes out toasted nicely on both sides, and DH and DC haven't broken it yet. Also seems to be cheaper now than when I got mine.

I bought mine after seeing recommendations on here for it when I was last shopping for one.

Fr0g · 09/02/2020 02:16

Dualit - mine's about 25+ years old.
Rather than a four slice, it's the one with two slices and a sandwich cage - BUT I have just discovered that if I microwave a sausage roll, then toast it in the sandwich cage, the pastry crisps and it tastes just like it's been in the oven. Brilliant.

NotYourHolidayDick · 09/02/2020 07:13

@NurseButtercup

Here. Its FABULOUS. And I have all the other small appliances to match, natch.

Coldilox · 09/02/2020 07:47

We got a Dualit for Christmas (we had asked for a new kettle and toaster). Last week it started shorting the electrics every time we tried to use it. FFS.

windymillersmill · 09/02/2020 08:09

£289 for a toaster ???!!!!

harriethoyle · 09/02/2020 08:23

@NotYourHolidayDick I have toaster envy. That is a FABULOUS toaster 😍

NotYourHolidayDick · 09/02/2020 09:38

Dualit. We had a Delonghi but didnt like it.

JaceLancs · 09/02/2020 09:43

Tefal Avanti 4 slice

BlueJava · 09/02/2020 09:45

We have a 4 slice Smeg. The whole slice fits in, does crumpets and bagels as well. Looks good too.
