To think Big was a twat?

Rewatching SATC on Sky Comedy and I forgot how much of a twat Big was with Carrie!

Aidan was much better

Oh my goodness Margot that scene makes me cry every time I see it, when Magda kisses her head and tells her “you love”. It’s one of the very few scenes in all of those films/shows that breaks the character right in two without being schmaltzy or over-egging it. Whoever wrote it needs a round of applause and a stiff gin.

I did like it at the time but I was a the same stage in life as the four of them were meant to be single and having unsuitable flings ,sadly not in New York though! I don't think Big was as bad as Charlotte,s first Husband Trey? Now he was an arse .

Aidan deserved and got better!

Just coming on the thread to say...

a) Miranda was the only one of the four I would have given the time of day. The other three made me want to bash my head against the wall.

b) I totally don't get at all why "Big" is sexy. He looks like a cross between a penguin and Norman Lamont...

Big was a Wall Street banker wasn't he? Financier type. I know he was awful, but I still would have...

Yuk, Big looked like he’d smell of cigarettes, style red wine and overpowering aftershave designed to, but not succeeding in, cover the first two.
Aidan was horribly controlling, only interested in Carrie if she changed in all the ways he wanted.
Harry and Steve were the only two good guys in it.

It’s been a while since I saw the film Estaban but I will forgive Carrie for taking the subway considering her heels.

Big may have been a bit flash and a bit of an arse, but he wasn’t like Trump. He was the real deal of what Trump WANTS to be, but is too ridiculous.

Miranda was extremely insecure and as a result bitter and nasty and acerbic - I never get why people like her!

Lone voice here but I bloody loved it at the time and still love it now . I own the box set of the series plus the 2 films.

Thank I wanted to like Steve but he's a total man child. Remember him acting like a chile when he bought a puppy, and lazing about watching scooby doo in Miranda's flat. She should've stayed with the only sexy man (other than Smith) ever featured in SATC - Robert 🤤

And I don't get the attraction to Big - he's plain and not particularly well built there's nothing at all striking about him

I love Big, I've always got time for someone unapologetic about who they are.

I found Carrie most annoying in the episode with the charity catwalk fashion show. She spends the first half of the episode saying she is worried people will think she thinks she’s as attractive as a supermodel. And then she is mortally offended and pulls a huge strop when it turns out some of the other guest models are ordinary looking people.

I can’t believe we are supposed to relate to her. She is awful. As is Big.

The best one by far is Samantha. But on re-watch she really treats Smith like a commodity in the early days. Still it’s refreshing to see a woman have the opportunity to do that and she goes on to redeem herself in the relationship.

The whole point is that all four women are superficial, materialistic, arrogant snobs. One by one they realise that their 'ideal man' doesn't exist, and experience humbles them..and they end up with decent men who may not fit their ideal. Carrie is the last to let go of this arrogance.

Sounds obvious, but it's astonishing the number of women that admire the four protagonists.

Carrie was a psycho. Big was always honest about what he was, but she kept trying to force him to commit and getting crazy when he wouldn't.

Steve was a lazy bag of crap. He rode Miranda's coattails to a brownstone in Brooklyn, all the time making her feel guilty for being career driven, then he had the absolute audacity to cheat on her for not shagging him enough, when she was working all hours to provide for their family, his mum with dementia, and his fucking dog that he got on a whim. Miranda deserved better than Steve, someone like Dr Robert!

The SATC2 film was the worst thing that's ever been made. They were like completely different characters. The previously lovely Harry perving on the braless young nanny was a particular low point.

Urgh yes he was a total wanker. Plus he was ugly and looked like gonzo from the muppets. Never knew what she saw in him (although she was completely self absorbed and spoilt too).

Chris Noth isn’t ugly. Just looks that don’t appeal to all!

Carrie is the worst ever! Big is terrible but more loveable than her. Charlotte is ok. Samantha is great and Miranda is a wet fish. Love and hate the show in equal measure.
