Rewatching SATC on Sky Comedy and I forgot how much of a twat Big was with Carrie! Angry

Aidan was much better

Shame that the woman who wanted a man the least had the best one.

AutumnRose1 · 07/02/2020 01:08

“blew it enough times to be bored” 😂

Tragic!

Miranda gave up everything for Steve, her home, her life, the herself she wanted to be to a degree and she looked after his mother then he fucked someone else!

Carrie was an arsehole

Charlotte was not my cup of tea and was quite judgmental and closed off to others lifestyle choices but once she found harry and their daughter she seemed to settle.

Samantha was quite surfacly vain in how she presented herself to the world but she was honest about exactly who she was so it was up to you if you if you could accept that. So once the kids came along she was honest that she didn't really "do" kids.
She was fiercely loyal though, they were lucky to have her.
she did have no qualms about shagging married men though

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/02/2020 01:31

Married men had no qualms about shagging her.

I don't remember her forcing anyone.

Ginkypig · 07/02/2020 01:36

No that's true and in my opinion the attached person is always the responsible party but morally it's a bit off to knowingly sleep with someone you know has a partner or spouse.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/02/2020 01:47

Agree with that Ginkypig, I just think the emphasis needs to be in the right place; as you say, with the attached person.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/02/2020 01:54

Could be the root of it's popularity.

They all had some fabulousness and were all also a bit fucked up in some way.

A bit like most of us.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/02/2020 01:56

Except me of course.

And Smith.

Agree that Carrie was incredibly self centred and was generally a bit of a flakey friend to the rest of the women, however in her defence she did show that she cared for them, one scene that stuck in my mind was when Miranda was in Brooklyn all alone and really upset on New Years Eve (the first film) and Carrie could not get a cab to get to her so she walked all that way in the night to be with her, I found that scene very touching and when she was devastated at Samantha’s cancer diagnosis and Carrie was the only one who really listened to her fears, she also had a go at Samantha for not treating Miranda well after having Brady to name a few instances, it’s very easy to remember all the bad stuff and forget the good.

Bobbi73 · 07/02/2020 02:12

I loved it when it was new and I don't think you were supposed to like any of the characters very much (except Miranda, I loved her). Mr big was awful so he and Carrie suited each other. I could never hate Aidan as when he was Chris on Northern exposure, I fancied him so much. Anyone else remember that?
There were some fantastic one liners (mostly from Samantha) and in its day, it was great.
Also, smith...
As far SATC 2 however, it is probably the worst film I've ever seen!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 07/02/2020 02:14

Evidence that she wasn’t all bad!

To think Big was a twat?

WombOfOnesOwn · 07/02/2020 02:18

Chris from Northern Exposure is one of my all-time great TV crushes. Intellectual bad boy poet-artist with a heart of gold? Whew.

Toffeecakes · 07/02/2020 02:19

I used to love SATC, I watched it all again last year and it was truly awful. There are so many things wrong with it aside from the terrible acting and the unrelatable storylines. I used to like Carrie but have come to realise she was a horrible person, don’t get me started on the men.

It should come with a warning.

Theroigne · 07/02/2020 03:18

I remember being in my early twenties when it was out, and even back then I thought it was dreadful and that Carrie was a twat. I felt as if I lived on a different planet to everyone else. Pleased to hear finally that there are others out there that feel the same as me!

crispysausagerolls · 07/02/2020 03:28

Big was fine! Carrie stalked his mother to the church to force an introduction and then refused to go on holiday with him (which he had paid for as she couldn’t afford it) ON THE DAY because she tried to force him to tell her she was “the one”, and he wouldn’t.

Bloody nutjob

Iambloodystarving · 07/02/2020 04:06

I feel quite vindicated now as hated it at the time. I watched one or two but could not take Carrie. I liked Samantha a lot and really, she was a groundbreaking character. A woman with an uncomplicated sex drive! Still novel actually. They always make those female characters have a comeuppance.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 07/02/2020 09:35

in her defence she did show that she cared for them, one scene that stuck in my mind was when Miranda was in Brooklyn all alone and really upset on New Years Eve (the first film) and Carrie could not get a cab to get to her so she walked all that way in the night to be with her,

That is a very moving scene but she didn’t walk from Manhattan to Brooklyn! She took the subway and walked the last hundred metres or so...

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 07/02/2020 09:38

Carrie was a self absorbed, acopic bellend.

I watch it now and hate all the characters.

CameFromAway · 07/02/2020 09:38

Carrie and Big were awful. It was Miranda and Steve for me.

BottleOfJameson · 07/02/2020 09:39

Carrie was also bloody awful though.

MayFayner · 07/02/2020 09:48

I’d take Big a million times over that fucking Russian. I hated him with a passion 🤮🤮 Smug, patronising doddery git.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/02/2020 09:59

He was a nasty piece of work, how she didn't see it is beyond me Confused

Waterandlemonjuice · 07/02/2020 13:25

Agreed re the Russian, his strop in Paris when she got some attention! He was awful.

Dollywilde · 07/02/2020 13:49

You know who was actually alright? Jack Berger....
