I’ve always wondered why his career was so badly damaged by what happened at his house.

It was awful that a man died, but he was never found guilty and it was never proved that he was in any way involved - as far as I remember.

He was so popular before and had a really strong career. AIBU to wonder why people turned against him so quickly?

I don’t mean this to be a goady thread, just generally wondering why he was the ‘only’ fall guy for what happened.

Barrymore makes my skin crawl

Greysparkles · 06/02/2020 23:33

That comment at the end about how maybe he's slipped and fallen at the poolside.

Jesus. That just says it all really doesn't it. He doesn't give a flying fuck

dayowl · 06/02/2020 23:34

He definitely knows what happens

dayswithaY · 06/02/2020 23:42

Well that's him off telly forever now. Hope Dancing on Ice cancelled the cheque.

colouringinpro · 06/02/2020 23:46

Like others have said, NOT a party at all. And only 3 (or 4?) men there who could have realistically committed the assault. At least one person there knows what happened.

And Barrymore's PA tidying up, and the pool thermometer going missing. Far too suspicious.

His poor parents.

NemophilistRebel · 06/02/2020 23:46

He’s paid enough people to keep quiet

All 8 people who would have information gave no comment

It’ll all come out once he’s died

Would love to know why people are scared enough or loyal enough to protect him

Getoffmylilo · 06/02/2020 23:53

Alcoholism, the way he treated his then wife, erratic behaviour - all those things contributed hugely to the decline in his career, long before the pool incident.

GeordieTerf · 07/02/2020 00:00

He's such a creep. I feel awful for Stuart's family Sad

Upherefordancing · 07/02/2020 00:06

I read earlier today that his PA was allowed back into the house after it was cordoned off as a crime scene and removed a jacuzzi thermometer and a door handle that had been photographed by police as they suspected they had been used to rape the victim. Just horrible...

PotholeParadise · 07/02/2020 00:14

I used to love Michael Barrymore. I stopped liking him after a young man was found dead at his house, with injuries and evidence consistent with having been raped.

The thing that puzzles me most, is the absurd excuses people come up with to exonerate Barrymore.

Ladybirdbookworm · 07/02/2020 00:19

I too think he treated his wife appallingly.
That never sat well with me to begin with.
Then to leave the scene of a death in your home, caring about yourself and not the deceased is unbelievable .

PotholeParadise · 07/02/2020 00:26

When I consider Barrymore's behaviour, I try to imagine how I would react if I invited a man back to a small party and someone found him dead in my swimming pool, and I discovered that someone had raped him in my house while the rest of the group were partying.

I would be desperate to help the police identify who had done such a horrific thing.

Blackbear19 · 07/02/2020 01:16

That Susan Boyle clip is really disturbing. He is trying to look up her skirt. OMG.
It's quiet amazing that she found the courage to try again on an other talent show.

I caught the end of the programme tonight but hadn't realised how few people were there. Somebody knows more than they are telling.

How did MB actually know the victim?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 07/02/2020 01:48

He didn’t know him he met him at a club that night and Stuart was invited back to his house. I think all 3 men did it and the women either turned a blind eye or were paid to. How none of them have not been charged with rape and murder beggars belief.

Wingedharpy · 07/02/2020 02:06

I wonder why they couldn't charge them under the "joint enterprise" law ie. where a person is killed by 1 person in a group, but the others in the group don't speak up so it's impossible to say who struck the blow that proved fatal and no-one present is telling ie. guilty by association.?
I know nothing about law though so could be talking rubbish.

Nikhedonia · 07/02/2020 02:27

Which channel was the documentary on?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 07/02/2020 02:28

Channel 4

Lipz · 07/02/2020 03:03

Just finished watching it on catch up. I hadn't realised the full extent of what Stuart suffered. That poor man.

8 people in a house, only 3 near the pool. Either it was one person or the whole lot. There is no way someone didn't see a violent rape happening, they would have at least seen Stuart with someone.

MB fleeing and saying it was because he didn't want the media to see him ? There's huge gates on the property, the police wouldn't have let the media in, so that's bullshit.

The PA 'Cleaning up'..... yeah right, thankfully there was photos taken just before HE the PA came to clean up.

There is definitely a huge cover up going on, obviously alot of money involved too, because I can not see, practical strangers keeping quiet for the fun of it, and if MB knew it was one of the strangers at the party responsible he would have squealed long ago. There is not a hope he would have sacrificed his career for a stranger and he is the only one with money so it's quite obvious as to who is paying who.

Hopefully as mentioned at the end of the programme that loyalties may have changed. Hopefully someone has the decency to put this poor family out of their misery wondering what happen to Stuart.

Money runs out, people get old and die, maybe someone will speak the truth .

Tellmetruth4 · 07/02/2020 03:06

I never warmed to MB during his hey day. There was always something ‘off’ about him, like he was insincere and had a nasty side.

Poor Stuart. I hope his father sees justice before he dies.

Bluerussian · 07/02/2020 05:02

I'm going to watch the doc on catch up, this thread has thrown up so many details that I didn't know before.

SunshineOverStress · 07/02/2020 05:08

I know someone who knows Michael Barrymore. At the time of the incident he called his agent and his agent advised him to leave because his place will be swarmed with the press. He was drunk at the time and realised this was the wrong decision after but didn’t know what to do and took his agents advice. He’s meant to be a really nice bloke!

sashh · 07/02/2020 05:34

SunshineOverStress

You have not watched the documentary have you?

Also if you discover there is a dead person in your house why call your agent?

SnoozyLou · 07/02/2020 05:37

Because if you behave like OJ Simpson in the wake of a murder at your property, something is amiss.

SunshineOverStress · 07/02/2020 06:05

@sashh admittedly no I haven’t I will watch it!

SimonJT · 07/02/2020 06:20

I was really disgusted that he was going to be on dancing on ice, I’m pleased he broke his wrist.

Did the UK not have joint enterprise laws when Stuart was murdered?
