I’ve always wondered why his career was so badly damaged by what happened at his house.

It was awful that a man died, but he was never found guilty and it was never proved that he was in any way involved - as far as I remember.

He was so popular before and had a really strong career. AIBU to wonder why people turned against him so quickly?

I don’t mean this to be a goady thread, just generally wondering why he was the ‘only’ fall guy for what happened.

Wow. I'm shocked by this documentary. Barrymore is completely narcissist! Vile man. He and the other two men were clearly complicit in the rape and murder of Stuart.

I really hope Stuart's dad gets justice for his son one day. It's a disgrace it's been allowed to get to this point. The police have been awful too. Just shocking.

Bluerussian · 09/02/2020 00:10

How does the Telegraph know he paid off two witnesses? Or is that just hearsay?

I take all of it with a pinch of salt, nobody has covered themselves with glory including police and forensics, media worst of all. There's no point in any of us speculating when those who are supposed to be impartial and carry out skilled investigations are so incompetent.

Haworthia · 09/02/2020 00:20

I remember seeing him on Celeb BB which was one of his attempts to revive his career after Stuart's death. He was dead eyed on that to. I remember George Galloway sneering at Barrymore's self pity. That is what strikes me most about Barrymore, his self absorption.

I remember that so clearly.

“Poor me, poor me, pour me another drink”.

aroundtheworldyet · 09/02/2020 00:59

I don’t think the telegraph would publish it without reason
I mean MB would sue them surely.as he’s so keen on his rep

feelingverylazytoday · 09/02/2020 01:22

You'd think it would be easier at this point just to come clean, confess what he knows, and see what his lawyers can do for him. If he'd done it at the time he'd have most likely served his sentence and been able to rebuild his life and some sort of a career. They must all live in fear that one person will spill thr beans.
Haworthia not at the beginning. George Galloway was kissing his arse when he thought MB was the public favourite. The two of them, along with Pete Burns, ganged up to pick on Jodie Marsh.

DonKeyshot · 09/02/2020 02:42

That Telegraph article is a shocker. Surely it's illegal to "pay off" witnesses? He should be arrested for that alone. Seems he has a total free pass. How does that work?

Essex police made such monumental errors of judgement in this case that it almost seemed as if they were in cahoots with Barrymore, longwayoff.

If two witnesses were paid off it begs the question of whether a bent copper was added to Barrymore's payroll.

I'd like to know who came up with the idea of saying that Stuart Lubbock's injuries could have been caused when his anal temperature was taken. This could only come from someone who was familiar with post-mortem procedures.

Obfuscation by Barrymore and his chums has been the name of the game so far and it's to be hoped that the work of the cold case review team and this documentary will cut through the witnesses crap accounts of the events of that night.

MarthasGinYard · 09/02/2020 02:48

'If two witnesses were paid off it begs the question of whether a bent copper was added to Barrymore's payroll.'

Does make you wonder

SouthWestmom · 09/02/2020 03:41

Blue it's in the article - it comes from a police intelligence report read in court re: wrongful arrest

KatherineJaneway · 09/02/2020 08:22

How does the Telegraph know he paid off two witnesses? Or is that just hearsay?

Came from a tip off apparently. From what I have read there was no evidence of the payments but happy to be corrected.

Looking back I am surprised by how few people were at the house and how small the house was compared to how big I had imagined it to be. I will watch this on catch up.

BurnerPhone · 09/02/2020 09:22

I watched the documentary last night and I feel so desperately sad for Stuart's dad and brother. The whole thing has become totally about Barrymore and not Stuart, the man who was sexually assaulted and murdered.

Barrymore is guilty as hell

SouthWestmom · 09/02/2020 09:31

Part of the fuck up by the police was not following up on the tip offs they received like the witnesses being paid, like Barrymore being penetrated by a missing hairbrush, etc.
Massive fail for the Lubbock family which I suspect was a dismissive attitude to homosexual and a high regard for celebrity

bruffin · 09/02/2020 10:01

how small the house was
I think the problem is newspapers called it a mansion when it was just a large sprawly 5 bed L shape bungalow.

Patroclus · 09/02/2020 12:04

'lying about the swimming, MB injury, he was seen to change clothes, leave carrying a bag of objects, checked into rehab the next day for 5/6 weeks.'

I think it might have happened in the pool, a carry on from that whole ducking shit arseholes do. Maybe this could account as to why the first examination found some water in his lungs (some sort of partial drowning?).-so te lying about swimming ability

The penis injury is pretty par for the course for this sort of party (ive read). Hate to be graphic but it can include rubbing cocaine on the penis and the fetishisation of unprotected, risky sex. The bundles included drug parapanalia probably wrapped in clothes or something whilst there were police around?

The going away to rehab is also in the playbook for celebs in the grip of scandal.

frillseeking · 09/02/2020 12:21

What was the penis injury?

NemophilistRebel · 09/02/2020 12:34

Knowing knows as the p9lice didn’t follow up on it

Patroclus · 09/02/2020 12:41

Donnt know exactly bute was sighted at a clinic a few days after by a nurse I think?

ForalltheSaints · 09/02/2020 13:07

I hope justice can finally be done soon.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 09/02/2020 13:59

Apparently some more people have come forward, fingers crossed.

Doyoumind · 09/02/2020 14:10

I don't know if police will ever get to the bottom of it. If the people there weren't involved but lied to police, they could be in serious trouble themselves, so are unlikely to come forward. Perhaps they could avoid prosecution if they gave evidence that helped solve the crime.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/02/2020 14:23

His face is painful to look at,even when he's smiling it looks like a grimace

That would be the ugliness coming through - he's like a horrible black void, but with just enough life left to damage others while seeking fresh thrills to excite himself with

At the rate this is going there's every chance he'll take what happened to the grave, and from the look of him that won't be long

MarthasGinYard · 09/02/2020 14:41

Yes read that on the BBC

Hopefully the new leads will be credible and the Police can finally sort out this shite show of injustice.

Wilmalovescake · 09/02/2020 15:27

Really REALLY hope these new leads are credible.

Wineislifex · 09/02/2020 15:39

I was young when this happened and presumed it was a gay orgy gone wrong but after watching the documentary it’s clear this was a rape and murder. I think all three men were involved and the girls are covering up, one being the sister of one of the men and the other girls being teens. I liked how they named them all at the end of the program, name and shame because they are all involved!

SouthWestmom · 09/02/2020 16:15

I'm interested in MB saying Essex police QC have said he isn't involved . Need to find MB quite and the QC quote

SouthWestmom · 09/02/2020 16:17

"Essex Police's own QC has said that, 'We know that Mr Barrymore has had nothing to do with this and that there is no evidence linking him with the injuries to Mr Lubbock or the pool'."
