She's been the subject of criticism and vitriol all day about her dress, which she apparently wore to an earlier social event. She's a bright, lively and committed MP, who cares what she wears?

OP posts:
Lostkeyagain · 05/02/2020 14:32

I didn’t think it was appropriate for a formal work environment.

FizzyIce · 05/02/2020 14:36

Don’t really care what politicians wear but the dress is awful , looks like she’s stumbled in from a late night out .
Would be the same if a male mp came in with half his shirt untucked

saraclara · 05/02/2020 14:36

the utter STATE of Boris Johnson every single day, looking like Worzel Gummidge after being dragged through a hedge. And no one is calling him a slag or a minger

No, but plenty of us criticise him for it.
She doesn't deserve the spite on the internet, but yes, it's fine to think that her dress wasn't appropriate for the HoC, and I'd prefer my representative to have better judgement.

Alsohuman · 05/02/2020 14:39

It's really simple to understand

No it’s not. It was a black frock with a wide neckline. It exposed nothing that should offend anyone. MN gets more misogynistic every day.

QueSera · 05/02/2020 14:41

It was a highly unprofessional outfit, worn in a professional environment. Highly inappropriate, not sexist.

formerbabe · 05/02/2020 14:47

Nonsense. It doesn't offend me but I still think it's inappropriate.

Appropriateness is not solely about flesh on show. If a male mp rocked up in jeans and an untucked shirt, I'd call it inappropriate too.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/02/2020 14:51

I don't think it's appropriate for the HOC. I wouldn't be allowed to dress like that at my office.

HOWEVER. I'm sick of this social media policing of women's outfits. She does not deserve the vile abuse she's been given. I've seen comments on Twitter calling her a slapper and all sorts.

Alsohuman · 05/02/2020 14:52

If inappropriateness isn’t about the flesh on show, what’s wrong with a black frock? This is getting more and more insane.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/02/2020 14:58

looks like she’s stumbled in from a late night out . When actually she had literally physically stumbled from another meeting with music industry people to a Commons meeting she had not expected to be called to.

Because of her broken ankle she hadn't time to get changed... so she wore the dress chosen for a different occasion!

That's it folks! Woman gets unexpectedly called from one meeting to a second more serious meeting and doesn't have time to change!

ConstanceSalinger · 05/02/2020 15:00

Thing is, she was out at the theatre when she got the call to get back to parliament. So it was quite appropriate attire when she set off. I get the dress code point but who set that in the first place? The patriarchy.

pigsDOfly · 05/02/2020 15:03

Sod it. I googled Tracy Brabin to get a look at the 'offending' dress and now I'm probably going to get the bloody Mail, posting their rubbish all over my part of the internet.

Social media being vile about how a woman looks? Goodness, that's a new one.

JellyNo15 · 05/02/2020 15:09

Major over the top reactions but basically I agree it is not appropriate wear for HoP.

KatyCarrCan · 05/02/2020 15:13

It was a black frock with a wide neckline

It wasn't a wide neckline. It was off-the-shoulder. And Tracy said that because she had a broken ankle, when she went to the dispatch box, she was at an awkward angle and that caused it to slip even more.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/02/2020 15:21

basically I agree it is not appropriate wear for HoP. I am sure that she would have agreed with you before the tar and feathering she is getting.

But that doesn't change the facts that she didn't dress for HoP... and her broken ankle prevented her from being able to take time to get changed!

plunkplunkfizz · 05/02/2020 15:21

I’m very surprised she didn’t take a blazer with her to pop on after the event, especially in winter. Not appropriate business attire in the least but neither are the attacks on her character in any way justified or appropriate.

plunkplunkfizz · 05/02/2020 15:23

NB I spent several years with varying degrees of my leg and ankle in plaster, in a boot, etc. Didn’t stop me chucking a cardi or blazer in a bag. If she turned up with notes, a laptop, a tablet, then she had space or ability to bring an appropriate cover up for the chamber.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/02/2020 15:24

Broken ankle... who has spare hands for spare clothes?

I know I didn't, I just took what I needed and relied on taxis between places to keep me warm.

And again, she really wasn't expecting to go to HoP... so she was dressed appropriately for the event she went to!

Chloemol · 05/02/2020 15:25

She doesn’t deserve the comments, although personally I don’t think it’s suitable attire.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 05/02/2020 15:27

The thing that really bugs me is that the male MPs ALL wear suits, the female MPs have so much more variety. The dress was not smart business as I would expect the dress code of HoP to be, therefore, although she didn't look bad, definitely didn't deserve the abuse, I would say she was not appropriately dressed for work.

Bourdic · 05/02/2020 15:28

She’s getting zilch credit for carrying on working despite the broken ankle and being in plaster upto her knee. She wasn’t expecting to be in the house and she’s not dressed inappropriately before yet on social media( including GN) are acting as though she’s the most disgusting thing in public life

madcatladyforever · 05/02/2020 15:28

I thought she looked awful and it was inappropriate for the house of commons, she should have put a jacket over the top, however...……….. I am utterly sick of the constant slut shaming of women, specifically women.

Bourdic · 05/02/2020 15:29

Context is everything . What’s the context for BJ’s daily inappropriate lying?

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 05/02/2020 15:30

OK, I just read that she had been elsewhere and wasn't expecting to go into parliament. In that case, as there are mitigating circumstances. In that instance she should be left alone.

plunkplunkfizz · 05/02/2020 15:32

She’s getting zilch credit for carrying on working despite the broken ankle and being in plaster upto her knee.

Good for her but she can get taxis everywhere and claim the costs back and has two offices of staff who can assist her. She’s hardly on a zero hours contract working out how she can get to an Amazon warehouse to put in 10 hours to get the mortgage money.

Mrsjayy · 05/02/2020 15:34

She was called to HoP wasn't she ? So caught out meh it is a shoulder although it looked like it might fall further she is right though women can't do right for doing wrong.
