To still believe I can actually fly?

Ok this is going to sound weird.

I have these memories and I’m convinced they are not dreams - I know maybe they are or it’s just utter madness but what does it mean?

I feel like I have real memories of being a child and physically flying - I would make this feeling in my tummy (this is in my memory) this memory would life me and I would fly down the stairs- I would also fly in our old lounge by once again creating this feeling.

Now I KNOW (or do I know) that of course I didn’t fly - but I genuinely feel like these memories of flying are so real.

Does anyone know what it means? I literally feel like I’ve flown.

Once I was on a climbing frame and I elevated all the way up to the moon and I could see the earth but it didn't look like the earth we know it to be it was a total different shape.

Also I floated out of my body up towards the ceiling but I could see , however I felt like I was just this ball of energy with vision, I then flew into my living room and then something weird happened where I couldn't control my flying and was bouncing from wall to wall.

I really would love to fly outside again !

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/02/2020 15:05

@Vectura was it the boy who could fly? They made that into a film when i was young. Actually there was the little vampire cartoon to who used to fly. Although i was already flying in my dreams before that

HalfManHalfLabrador · 06/02/2020 15:12

I sometimes dream I can hover off the ground with a sensation like peddling a bike. I have to keep constantly moving or I will stop and bump back to earth. I often wake up out of breath/feeling tired after this dream. It’s really really vivid

I saw a very small dragon in the bathroom sink during my sisters birthday party when I was about 4/5. Every now and then it pops into my head, remember that little dragon? It was definitely there and it was real 🤷🏻‍♀️

BestZebbie · 06/02/2020 15:17

Vividly flying, especially down the stairs, as a child is an incredibly common dream - it supposedly derives from your real memories of being carried around by your parents.

ChessIsASport · 06/02/2020 15:21

I have this too. Unfortunately, it becomes very believable and a much stronger memory when I am suffering from anxiety. 🙁

user127819 · 06/02/2020 15:26

I have memories (or probably memories of dreams?) of floating down the stairs. Not flying, but descending the stairs without my feet being on the ground.

vegvegveg · 06/02/2020 15:27

I have exactly this, it's vivid/ lucid dreams as a child I think.

user127819 · 06/02/2020 15:28

@BestZebbie That's interesting, I think that's probably it in my case. Being carried down the stairs while half asleep.

LEELULUMPKIN · 06/02/2020 15:31

I have this but slightly different. I am or have been a champion figure skater in some different dimension. I can feel how free it is to do those twirls and jumps, and yes I literally fly in it too.

It is a fantastic feeling.

Of course back on planet earth I can just about stand up in ice skates! :)

lengthenmylutealphase · 06/02/2020 15:33

I have these 'memories' too, even down to the feeling in my stomach. I assume they're dreams or from being carried as a small child.

fourquenelles · 06/02/2020 15:39

Oooo I lived in a bungalow with a sloping front garden as a young child and I flew down the garden steps from the front door - always down, never up. It was very, very real although of course wasn't and I remember the floating sensation to this day.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/02/2020 15:42

I dreamt I had a cock growing out of my thigh once.I genuinely believe I know what having one feels like Grin

Bree88 · 06/02/2020 15:55

I still fly in my dreams whenever am lucid.I can totally control how and where I fly to once am lucid.I am thinking your memories could possibly be from a lucid dream or who knows an alternate self from a parallel universeWink

formerbabe · 06/02/2020 15:59

I used to have flying dreams as a child. I used to stand on the sofa, launch off and swim the breaststroke through the air. It was so real I would wake up and try to do it.

Delbelleber · 06/02/2020 16:00

Omg I could fly too!! Lmao. I remember it just once at friends house but when I tried to recreate it was just jumping and landing. I really felt like I flew though.

BeyondMyWits · 06/02/2020 16:08

I was convinced as a child - absolutely positively sure - that I could fly against the wind if it was strong enough - swimming through it, like water.

Woollycardi · 06/02/2020 16:26

Yep, I am also convinced that somehow I have the capacity to fly because I know the feeling so well...in fact it feels frustrating not to be able to! The dreams I have had about it have also been so vivid.

ImportantWater · 06/02/2020 17:59

@looselipssinkships Yes, I have that exact dream too. Usually I killed someone as a child and hid the body in my wardrobe. Also have the trying and failing to phone someone important and the out of control car.
I also have dreams where I just can’t understand why I can’t remember doing something. Like I’m coming out of a party and can’t remember being there - or I know I killed someone but can’t remember doing it. Obviously I can’t remember it because it never happened....

GloGirl · 06/02/2020 18:03

I used to do this. I was about 11 when I remembered and realised I probably wasn't flying. I was about 13 when I probably truly believed I wasn't flying!

I never left the bedroom, all you flying through the house are so lucky!

Neverender · 06/02/2020 18:48

I've had very vivid dreams, that feel like memories, of me taking and driving my Mum's car...when I was 7yrs old. I KNOW it didn't happen but I sometimes feel like it did.

LilyPinkNoah · 06/02/2020 22:31

I should point out actually that I dreamt I had left the house and walked down the road and someone brought me back and I was tiny!!

I asked my mum about that and she said when I was 3 I had told her I was going shopping and left out the front door and walked towards the shops!! A plumber who was doing work to our house saw me and carried me home!!! Now I thought that was a dream and the flying was real!!

I remember levitating and flying and also yelling my dad and friends that I could do it. Then, At some point I just stopped remembering until lately (40 years later). There are of course psychological explanations but also OBE could be an answer.
