To ask how many clothing washes do you do a day?

Starting to think my family are manky 🙈
Have just put on my first wash in 6 days. As a family of 5, its built up (I've not been well enough)
But I've only got another load and some towels and sheets to do. So another 2 washes.

Speaking to a friend who does 3 a day Blush I'm wondering how she has the time?!

I should add that our washing machine is 9kg so fits more than usual and towels get reused if it's just been the kids that use them or they were only used for drying hair.

Am I really that unusual?

I probably wash 5 days out of 7 but I have a toddler so his clothes can not be rework as usually covered in food, water, soil, paint etc. Without toddler as 2 adults I probably only did 2 washes a week

Yesterdayforgotten · 03/02/2020 15:32

Forgot to mention before dc I used to do about 2 a week, one towels/bedding and one clothes and that was it...oh those were the days! I bloody live in the laundry room now!

popcorndiva · 03/02/2020 15:32

Oh and that is 2 washes for toddler , one light , one dark and one bedding

vampirethriller · 03/02/2020 15:35

Every other day, me and a toddler.

elliejjtiny · 03/02/2020 15:37

Between 2 and 5 loads a day, 2 adults and 5 dc. 2 loads on a good day so if nobody has wet or puked in their beds and everyone finishes the day in the same clothes they started in. That doesn't happen very often though.

M0onFace · 03/02/2020 15:39

Family of 4. I do a wash every day, sometimes 2. I wash all bedding once a week. I wash all used towels twice a week. I also wash muddy sports kit and I like to wash doormats every fortnight (they're turtle mats) and I wash my bath mats every week too from both bathrooms. DS aged 13 wears a completely fresh uniform daily due to playing football at breaks so this adds to it.

But mainly I don't like it building up and I don't leave things too long before I like them all fresh again

Jellybeansincognito · 03/02/2020 15:44

We only wear our clothes once- I do a wash every other day, sometimes 2 washes.

Family of 4.

Jellybeansincognito · 03/02/2020 15:45

I have a 10kg washing machine though... which helps.

Viletta · 03/02/2020 15:45

Once a week, it's just me and DH, we have enough to go by without having to do it more often. One a fortnight I'll do extra for begging and towels. We have enough to last that long when changing and not washing.

Louiselouie0890 · 03/02/2020 15:47

3 a day is insane. We do 4 washes a week so 2 sunday 2 wednesday family of 4

Minai · 03/02/2020 15:48

I do about 1 load a day. Family of 4 but kids are 1 & 2 so go through a lot of clothes getting covered in food or messy from the park. I also go through more as I’m constantly getting sticky hands on me or someone wipes their nose on my top 🤢

Megan2018 · 03/02/2020 15:51

I have a horse, I get filthy every day plus I have a 4 month old and get vomited on daily! DH has an outdoor job, so there are 3 loads of our clothes at least weekly, 1 load of baby clothes. So 4 of clothes as a minimum, sometimes a separate wool wash too.

Plus 1 load of towels, 2 of bedding, 1 of cat blankets, 4 reusable nappies, 1 of cleaning cloths (we don’t use cleaning sprays).

So 13-14 loads a week here, basically 2 most days.

sugarbum · 03/02/2020 15:51

Family of four. I refuse to wash every day, but I really need to do at least a load a day to get through it.
I do two or three loads every other day instead because that's all I can fit on the airer but also because I split into lights/darks/delicates plus I do extra loads at the weekend for sheets and towels.

Lweji · 03/02/2020 15:52

I dunno why people let it build up.

Because it's wasteful to do a washing with barely any clothes in?
Or because it's raining, and it's also less wasteful to dry the clothes in the sun rather than in the drier?
Because, although it doesn't take that long, some people don't like to go through the same motions repeatedly if they can do them fewer times?
Because some of us are not at home to pick up line dried clothes before sunset and thus wait for the weekend?

RedRed9 · 03/02/2020 15:54

I can honestly say I do 1 wash a week, some times 2 but I've struggled to find things to fill up the machine?!

@ByeFeliciaa don’t you at least do:
1x towels OR 1x bedding
1x darks
1x lights
... A week?

I would think 3x a week would be the absolute minimum you could do. Prepared to be told I’m wrong though! Can you break down what you wash each week?

Bananalanacake · 03/02/2020 15:57

on average 5 a week, 2 adults 2DC. I only wash when there is a full load. Am a big believer in wearing things several times before they go in the wash, underwear and DP's Tshirts go in the wash after one wear.

RedRed9 · 03/02/2020 15:57

I have an 8kg washing machine but this year the bastard’s stopped spinning loads that are too heavy. So I have to do smaller loads more often.

I don’t mind doing the laundry but I don’t love it hanging about while it dries.

CupCupGoose · 03/02/2020 15:58

It probably works out at one load a day. But sometimes we'll do 2 loads a day and none another day. We do about 4 clothes loads, 2 towel/bedding/tea towel/cleaning cloth loads and one DHs work clothes.

CupCupGoose · 03/02/2020 16:00

I should ahve said I've got 2 primary aged kids and a third on the way so our washing will increase, especially since the baby will be in cloth nappies.

Ginkypig · 03/02/2020 16:02

2 adults, normally 2-4 loads p/w

1x clothes wash per person p/w all clothes are dark or coloured so they go in together
1x towels and dish towels p/w
1x king bedding every other week

As needed (less than once a week) bath mats and shower curtain or other random things like cat blankets etc

ByeFeliciaa · 03/02/2020 16:02

@RedRed9 no I just bung it all together Confused I don't even think I have any white clothing Grin

OP posts:
DoesItGetAnyBetter · 03/02/2020 16:07

Two adults and two children here.

4 dark loads
2 light loads
2 towel washes
3 bed linen washes
1-2 dog towels/bedding washes

So around 12-13 plus any extra bits done on an adhoc basis (delicates/dressing gowns/cleaning cloths/tablecloths)

It’s not a crime to take pride in your appearance. I don’t like wearing dirty clothes and wouldn’t put my children in dirty clothes either.

(And yes, I am also a loser who irons pjs etc, not because I worry people will see us in the event of a fire but because they feel nice when you put them on.)

RedRed9 · 03/02/2020 16:08

no I just bung it all together
I both fear and admire you.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll1 · 03/02/2020 16:08

Too fucking many for my liking.

ByeFeliciaa · 03/02/2020 16:10

@RedRed9 😂😂 any towels and bedding go in together so they aren't separated. I usually do all my washes on a hot one anyway which I know isn't environment friendly so perhaps I shouldn't be judging either!
