Pooing in the en suite!!

MisfitNinja · 03/02/2020 08:08

Settle an age old debate between myself and my DH:

Shitting in the en suite:

Yes or no?

I say no, as it will stink the bedroom out and he disagrees and says that it doesn't matter. If he needs to go he'll go whichever toilets closets!!

No way, I don’t let anybody poo in the en suite or the bathroom toilet, it has to be the separate toilet in hallway 😂 but I’m neurotic.

Cheeserton · 03/02/2020 09:23

Mumsnet. Where men may not use the lavatory.

bobstersmum · 03/02/2020 09:24

If its a toilet then it's not just for wees is it?

AtomicRabbit · 03/02/2020 09:24

Man poos are just so smelly. Sorry guys but your turds are vomit-worthy. I don't know if they realise just how bad they are. A female poo by comparison while pretty bad is never on the scale of a man poo. It's also the triumphant look on a male face after exiting the toilet that is equally infuriating. I don't do that, nor do I enjoy the feeling that I have stunk the house out. There seems to be some sort of schadenfreude in the poo smell. "Here everyone, smell my shit, it's gorgeously disgusting, isn't it? Hahaha!"

Celticrose · 03/02/2020 09:25

Keep matches in it. A couple of burning matches gets rid of smell really well.

ColdCottage · 03/02/2020 09:26

No different from being in a hotel unless it's not well ventilated then no.

SeaGale · 03/02/2020 09:27

Dear God, just NO. Who are all these people who don't care if their DP sees/smells/hears them having a poo???

Millettmum · 03/02/2020 09:29

Ha I read this whilst my husband was doing a number two in the en-suite. It's a toilet use it!

takeyourrubbishhome · 03/02/2020 09:30

Our ensuite is my children's favourite place to poo apparently! I think it's probably because the toilet is petite and so fits them a bit better. It's quite a large room though (would have been a bedroom once upon a time) and has a big window. I do agree with you about poo smells and bedrooms though, but I think it depends a bit on the bathroom setup, if it was small with no window then no way, but if it's a decent size with good ventilation then I can't get wound up about it.

Halo1234 · 03/02/2020 09:30

I always use the ensuite. With dc around it's the most private bathroom. Wouldnt if dh was in bed but during the day it's my go to bathroom. If I was in bed I would expect dh to go to family bathroom but during the day poo in there if u like.

OwlBeThere · 03/02/2020 09:31

It’s a toilet, it’s literally it’s only function.

SpokeTooSoon · 03/02/2020 09:32

I make DH use the loos in the reception area of hotels. I’m not spending time trapped in a hotel room with that smell lingering!

YourEggnogIsBetterThanMine · 03/02/2020 09:32

We have the same battle in our house. If I'm reading in bed or watching Love Island I don't want to hear DH on the loo for half an hour then smell the mixed stench of shite and air freshener for another half an hour. The window and extractor fan are no match for DH. En suites are for daytime shitting (to safely shit away from visitors).

OwlBeThere · 03/02/2020 09:32

@GameSetMatch

How on Earth do you stop them?!

teraculum29 · 03/02/2020 09:35

there is a old trick how to get rid of bad smell in the bathroom

just light up and blow out a few matches.

or use any air freshener

Hyrana · 03/02/2020 09:35

Never in a new build en-suite, that tiny corner of the master bedroom. Yes in the en-suite that I have overseas, it's a proper bathroom.
But yes if we wanted to poo we would poo in toilet

Oysterbabe · 03/02/2020 09:35

It depends when. In the morning when we're both up and getting ready to go out then fine. Just before bed then no.

Yesterdayforgotten · 03/02/2020 09:36

By all means go in and use it but not when other half in bed, dont need poorly covering air fresheners drifting in bedroom when trying to relax Shock

DesLynamsMoustache · 03/02/2020 09:37

On a par with shitting in a coach toilet at the start of a six-hour journey.

CakeandCustard28 · 03/02/2020 09:38

YABU. It’s a toilet. It’s what it’s there for? Crack open a window afterwards? Or get some VIP poo if you stink it out that much. Wink

Yesterdayforgotten · 03/02/2020 09:38

-Never in a new build en-suite, that tiny corner of the master bedroom'

Exactly that, it depends on ensuite in question.

loobyloo1234 · 03/02/2020 09:44

Sat at work holding in my laughter at this thread Grin

Having a toilet that you can't use to go to the toilet in. Only on MN

SimonJT · 03/02/2020 09:45

It’s a toilet, it’s sole purpose is to wee, poo and vom in. If my partner controlled where I could open my bowels he would fairly swiftly be removed, oddly enough I find control freaks don’t make good partners.

Yesterdayforgotten · 03/02/2020 09:48

Yes Simon which would all be fine ordinarily but if OH's smell was offensive and drifted in right as trying to sleep rules have to be put in place for such events Grin

milliefiori · 03/02/2020 09:49

This question is why I think en-suites are gross. Who wants bathroom odours and steam in the bedroom? Separate rooms with a corridor or landing between them. Much healthier.
