I just don’t get the big deal about him? Don’t rate his movies at all and his personality is questionable also.

OP posts:
Sparklesocks · 02/02/2020 21:32

Oh I really love his stuff, disagree I’m afraid!

Cheeringmeup · 02/02/2020 21:39

Nope, love his work. Haven’t seen JoJo Rabbit yet, but my daughter loved it. Loved “Hunt for the Wilder people”, “Boy” and “Eagle v Shark”.
He does a fine pathos/poignance thing without drifting into cloying or mawkishness.

iklboo · 02/02/2020 21:49

Why aren't you elaborating on his 'questionable personality'? We all really enjoy his work here. And no, as PP said the BBC had no hand in the TV show of What We Do In The Shadows. He wrote the majority of the scripts.

Figgygal · 02/02/2020 21:52

what?
I think you have to have a certain sense of humour to get some of his stuff but I love him

Still not sure what I feel about Jojo rabbit Other than that wasn’t enough crazy Hitler in it

KnickersandGnomes · 02/02/2020 21:57

Agree with the many posts about Hunt for the Wilderpeople, it's one of my favourite films.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 02/02/2020 22:33

Why does something have to be shit just because you don’t like it?

Chillicheese123 · 02/02/2020 22:34

He ticks all the Hollywood boxes doesn’t he. But I think he’s a bit emperors new clothes.

LokiLocks · 02/02/2020 22:51

Hunt for the Wilderpeople was such a beautiful and engaging film. In all his films you can see the spark that his directorial style brings to the actors and the scenes.

What We Do In The Shadows was fantastic and THAT scene in Thor: Ragnarok with The Immigrant Song was breathtaking.

I think YABU as he is extremely talented but perhaps just not to your taste.

RiddleyW · 03/02/2020 09:48

What Hollywood boxes does he tick? I think he’s quite unusual for Hollywood.

CrowleysBentley · 03/02/2020 09:55

I love all of his films that I've seen. I did a "werewolves not swearwolves" cross stitch for DS's room a while ago. Grin

nakedavengeragain · 03/02/2020 10:02

WtF? How is his personality questionable?

bsc · 03/02/2020 10:08

I really enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok, found it v funny and a good pace (and obviously you have to accept it's a Marvel Superhero film not Truffaut). He was also good in it- loved his character.
DD saw Hunt for the Wilder People at school and said it was brilliant.

I haven't heard anything about his "personality"...

DC started listening to Led Zeppelin after watching Ragnarok, so that's good.

MonaChopsis · 03/02/2020 10:17

Nah, I'm a Kiwi and I fully rate him. His movies are great and his 'Advert for racism' () gets him lots of good guy points too.

iklboo · 03/02/2020 18:05

I love all of his films that I've seen. I did a "werewolves not swearwolves" cross stitch for DS's room a while ago

NEED!!!! Grin

Hsldl · 03/02/2020 18:08

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a great film. I do firmly prefer Wes Anderson's work though @FourEyesGood Grin

FVFrog · 03/02/2020 18:09

Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Jojo Rabbit were both brilliant films. I have yet to see Ragnarock but it’s on my list. Jojo Rabbit was one of the best films I’ve seen.

Ellisandra · 03/02/2020 18:10

Loved JoJo Rabbit.
Just here to find out about his personality... come back, OP!

Zaphodsotherhead · 03/02/2020 18:10

Oh god, I love him. What We Do In The Shadows and Thor:Ragnarok are among my favourite films (never said I was erudite, did I?).

He's great at the juxtaposition of dark and light themes.

PositiveVibez · 03/02/2020 18:11

I LOVE Eagle versus Shark. It was such a great film. And what we do in the shadows was so funny.

But I am a massive Flight of the Conchords fan and I think he had a hand in a couple of the episodes.

So YABU OP. Just cos you think he's shit, doesn't mean he is.

Hsldl · 03/02/2020 18:13

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it is inherently shit, OP. I've even seen people call Synecdoche, New York (dir. Charlie Kaufman) a bad film, it's not at all bad just not to everyone's taste.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 03/02/2020 18:13

No, I think he's great and love his work.

@CrowleysBentley that sounds ace! Was there a pattern or did you draw it up yourself?

Greenglassteacup · 03/02/2020 18:13

I think he’s handsome

pointythings · 03/02/2020 18:13

What's the issue with his personality? His work is hit and miss, but Shadows and Ragnarok were fabulous. Haven't seen JoJoRabbit yet but DD1 loved it.

AdaStarkadder · 03/02/2020 18:15

Nope! Loved Ragnarok ( Lokilocks is right - best cinema use of Zep ever! ) DS really liked Jojo Rabbit ... What's wrong with him? Is it the humourous Hitler that's pissing you off?
