To ask if I can take melatonin through customs to the USA

I take melatonin - 3mg, produced by a company in Netherlands called Vitabix, and going to the US.

Is it legal to take it through customs?

Yes. You can even buy it in Walmart, Target or any shop with a drug aisle.

No not illegal at all. In fact you can buy over the counter in all drugstores in USA. Even Melatonin Gummies which I recommend as faster acting!

I know it's legal there, but is it legal to travel with it from here?

Just wondering why don't you just buy it there instead of bringing it through?
Is it to help you sleep? Is it good? I've never tried it

I've never understood why we can't buy it over the counter in the UK when it's readily available in the US. Both I and a partner have used it and found it very effective, though we wouldn't use it long-term without having a chat with the doc.

Completely legal to buy online here. 3 mg tabs about £5 and postage from US about £6

Just ordered some from iHerb online, 90 days, postage was only £3 with hermes. I think only have to pay customs charge over £15 and the bottle was about £8 so fingers crossed no customers charge

I would prefer to take my own as it's a really good brand, from the Netherlands, and it's slow release - i get to sleep fine, but I don't stay asleep. It's only 3mg.

There's a lot of crap melatonin for sale in the US and the gummies are strong! I find it leaves me reeling the next day.

I've been using it for years. It got me through menopause.

You can get chocolate flavoured 3mg melatonin chews for dogs in the UK, without prescriptions. Brand name ‘Melacutin’. But somehow it’s prescription-only for people 🤷🏻‍♀️ Makes no sense.

I would def not take 10mg, personally. That would be like a horse sedative for me. It's A LOT.

I don't know what the long term effects are, if there are any. I don't take it every night but I take it regularly.

The most crippling menopausal symptom for me was (and still is even post meno, to a lesser degree but still bad) insomnia.

I know that taking anything longterm isn't great but frankly, when you're working and parenting a young child and lying awake most nights for hours, you sort of don't really care about long term effects if you can get some sleep.

I do go through a bioidentical HRT doctor, who is also a GP to buy them, as it happens. But you can buy them direct, i believe

I’ve done this myself. Took melatonin on a visit from NL to NYC. No problem at all and really helped with the jetlag.

My DH took DS to the US last year with a box of Melatonin in tow! No problem at all
