To think that Brexit is happening. Just get over it. We will be fine.

It is done, what will be will be... what is the point in getting stressed over it now?

'Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.'

Horrendously naive or perhaps, ignorant of what is about to come our way.

Oulu · 01/02/2020 00:58

"Just get over it". What an original turn of phrase. Was it really worth starting a thread for that?

AnotherMonthAnotherName · 01/02/2020 01:01

Right, seriously. Can any of you please advise on this? Genuinely. Those of you that are mad/raging/stressing/worrying/upset over the decision to leave the EU, which incidentally has already happened. Could you please explain, logically, what that emotion will realistically achieve and change in terms of the outcome you require?

Erm, well, nothing. Feeling any emotion never changes fuck all. Being upset about my Grandparents dying didn't make them less dead. Being angry at my Ex for shagging someone else didn't make her less pregnant. Doesn't stop me feeling sad/murderous, even if I could not change anything. What a weird question.

Mintjulia · 01/02/2020 01:03

Of course we’ll be fine. The sun will still rise tomorrow. Markets will adjust and go on as before.

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/02/2020 01:03

OP, you clearly dont understand people or human emotions or the economy.. Whatever is happening for you, personally, I suggest you deal with that in a way that benefits you and your loved ones.Flowers

Deadsouls · 01/02/2020 01:04

So I understand the point you are making. That it is inevitable (has happened) so stressing/worrying/feeling angry etc will only cause upset to the people feeling it, as won't change anything.

But people feel the way they do. You can just say 'get over it', and then magically people feel nothing more about the issue. Or 'we'll be fine', which by the way is speculation. As I said, depends what you mean by fine.

Seems like you are the one who can't accept that people are upset/ angry/sad/raging/anxious whatever about Brexit. They just are, we just are.

Saying 'get over it' and infinitum doesn't make people get over it. Saying, 'we'll be fine' doesn't mean people suddenly think; 'oh silly me, it's like I've been in a nightmare for 3.5 years but actually I needn't have worried because it'll all be fine'.

A lot of people are not going to be feeling 'fine' for a long time to come.

Shortfeet · 01/02/2020 01:06

OP you Talk sense .

Pluckedpencil · 01/02/2020 01:19

The Conservatives want us to believe it's done and sweep all the "boring paperwork" under the carpet. Instead, we should all be sitting up and reading the dreary small print very, very carefully, otherwise this is the year we get fucked by our own government.

jimmyjammy001 · 01/02/2020 01:22

I will know if it was a bad idea when I go shopping tomorrow, if all the shelves are empty, there's a que outside the job centre, theres no NHS staff and I'm sure there were some other reasons remainers promised would happen....

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 01/02/2020 01:26

@jimmyjammy001 do you understand the concept of 'transition'?

ilovesooty · 01/02/2020 01:30

She obviously doesn't. There's always one I suppose. And the job centre won't be open tomorrow. Grin

happyandsingle · 01/02/2020 01:36

The end is near dear people. The remainers have their crystal ball and we are DOOMED.

Fossie · 01/02/2020 01:44

Nicest thread so far. Thank you Op.

HairToday79 · 01/02/2020 01:46

Regardless of what I voted, you just battle on in life as there's alot you can't change...
You get on with things to the best that you can and make the most of the circumstance.
Dramatics are of no purpose in this instance and basically no help at all...

JockTamsonsBairns · 01/02/2020 01:49

I'm just so sick of it all and now I'm glad it's done and dusted.
Nothing is "done and dusted". It's a huge part of the political illiteracy of our nation, that people believe we are done and dusted. We haven't left yet. In fact, we've only just begun the leaving process, and nobody yet knows how it will end up.

Except, I do know my own family's fate. My DH works in an industry that depends upon free trade with the EU, so I know that we're "done and dusted". I don't know where he goes from here, but I do know that everything he's built up over the past 30 years is finished now. So, please excuse me if I don't just "get over it".

PooWillyBumBum · 01/02/2020 03:56

What’s the point in getting stressed?

I work in business strategy in a B2B industry and my company’s performance tracks the European market performance. We are currently “restructuring” at work.

My husband works in financial services and the last two companies he’s worked with have been moving operations over to Dublin and France as a direct result of brexit. Our house is far too small, I’m pregnant, and we need to decide where to lay our chips - do we cash in on my Irish passport and uproot our lives or take a gamble that our jobs will still be okay and that husband survives the next round of culling (already planned) and therefore can afford a larger mortgage here?

Pointlessly condescending thread. Hmm

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 01/02/2020 04:20

We will be fine? Oh thanks OP. What a relief! I was so worried there for a moment.
Could you let me know next week's lottery numbers, please? There's a dear.

jjjnnnnnrrssss · 01/02/2020 04:23

It's not done and dusted. It's only just started. Transition period is where we'll actually find out what happens with this all. And you all who voted for Tory MPs to 'Get Brexit done' better be there fighting for maintenance of our rights, keeping further cuts and austerity at bay, and overall trying to prevent this mess you wanted from being an absolute cock up.

You won't though. And now we'll all get to suffer.

PhilCornwall1 · 01/02/2020 05:02

Fuck me, we've now left (apparently, I slept through that bit) and still there are threads on fucking brexit!!!

Come on now, you've got the coronavirus to shit your pants and wind up over!!!

Whowantstogotothepark · 01/02/2020 05:09

Personally I'd rather let my own mind be taken up with things I can actually do something about

Apathy at its f**king worse. You are not a by-stander but a functioning part of democracy. Stop being so faux-zen.

Patronising ignorant crap.

Sobeyondthehills · 01/02/2020 05:23

I voted remain, in recent months I have been unable to get hold of medication I need to keep me stable, apparently that is Brexit's fault, who knows if that is true, I just know I can't get it.

On the plus side since we have now "done Brexit" I am looking forward to the the new hospitals, nurses, doctors and police we will see on the street as promised by Johnson, because there is no way he would have lied to any of us.

Oh and another thing, I have dual nationality so I will be alright Jack, will have to leave my partner here, but pffft.

He is not in the mood to just get over it as in the next few years we are going to have to make some very hard decisions

soisolated · 01/02/2020 05:29

Rubbish, control that was never there with the EU that was a partnership, sovereignty will now be sacrificed to US. already talking about us not taking Hwawei contract in return for trade deal. Yum chlorinated chicken, bye bye NHS

AwdBovril · 01/02/2020 05:39

My LL sold their entire portfolio of houses because of worries about the economy. We were unable to find another private rental, & are currently homeless. I’m disabled & can’t work, & DH can only get p/t with no proper contract. DD is completely unsettled by it & has nightmares every night, I’ve not had a decent night’s sleep in several weeks.

I find meaningless platitudes thoughtless & insulting, & often uttered by people who either haven’t thought about it, or don’t care about people worse off than themselves.

dwum · 01/02/2020 05:42

@Lifeonmars77 have my first ever DFOD.

Who do you think you are?

Canyousewcushions · 01/02/2020 05:45

I can do something. I can campaign to join the EU. I can vote accordingly.

I'm not going to sit around and accept the worst decision this country has made for a generation and I refuse to believe I am powerless. It might take a while, but one day we will get closer to Europe again.
