To think that Brexit is happening. Just get over it. We will be fine.

It is done, what will be will be... what is the point in getting stressed over it now?

'Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.'

It's a crock of shite, brought about for political self-interest, without any clue if quite how gullible the public are, any criteria of what majority would be meaningful, any expectation of it going the way it did nor any sort of plan or loose pathway to achieve an unspecified destination. It has led to the country being led by a shit ex-journalst who is too clueless to be allowed any sort of meaningful live interview, with a cabinet of the worst sort of talentless middle managers. Brexit day my arse.

@corythatwas I know it's not easy but she should have just refused their custom.

Within weeks of the vote in June 2016, young girls of 12, 13 years old who I taught were sworn at for speaking to each other in their own language (they are refugees from a war zone) and told "this is F*ing England, you have to speak English" - this in a multi-cultural mixed area... The poor kids were genuinely stunned, and frightened and wanted to report it because for the first time they felt unwanted and unsafe her.

Iamagree · 01/02/2020 19:45

Sorry, pressed post too soon - I meant to say, those kids immediately knew the vote changed everything, and they were fair game to every passing xenophobe and little Englander, whose nationalistic inclinations had been whipped up by the (right wing millionaire Brexit-benefiting) media, and legitimised by the Leave vote.

Sossadtoday · 01/02/2020 20:09

I wonder if the OP is absorbing all these posts and still thinking it will all be just fine? Hmm

Yes. Not all leave voters are racist, no. My family are not, my friends are not. But they voted in line with vile people and emboldened xenophobia. Lie with dogs, get fleas.

can I take my dog on holiday with us this year? I let the passport lapse as we didn't need it before
- what about the E111 can we still use that or will we need travel insurance?
- what about my mobile and network roaming charges? Any deal on that

Yes you can take your dog on holiday, that wont change this year

The EHIC card has never been a replacement for travel insurance, so you should always have both. The EHIC card will still be in use this year.

Roaming still applies this year too. No idea about your pension sorry.

Positives off the top of my head.
Obviously can govern ourselves. Can’t be overturned by a higher court.
Regulations, these have always been guidelines but the brits are a stickler for sticking to them ( it’s in our nature) largely to our detriment, whilst other countries have blantantly flouted them - example fishing laws.
We can make trade deals relevant to us not loads of other countries.
We have always been net contributors. Yes there is eu funding. But we always put more in.

EU is not what it originally was. Too bloated with beaurocrqcy Too many countries that have poor infrastructure, corrupt, and frankly a drain have joined in recent years.
We have always had one foot out anyway. We always kept the pound.

Anyway I voted remain. But it is never black and white. Always shades of grey.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 01/02/2020 22:00

I live in a town that is dominated by a massive global business that has stated it is going to leave due to Brexit. There will be (local) mass unemployment, poverty and crime will increase. I should just STFU and get over it though it, what will be will be!

TheFaerieQueene · 01/02/2020 22:06

If we just stopped stressing and got on with it, nothing would change. Women wouldn’t have the vote, the American Civil rights movement wouldn’t have happened, apartheid wouldn’t have been overthrown. OP you are talking bollicks.

mindfulprep · 02/02/2020 07:22

Yeah sure, cos posting it on aibu and telling people to get over it will do the trick HmmBiscuit

Iamagree · 02/02/2020 09:59

and feeling that having left the EU entitles "British People" to do this kind of thing?
