To pander to my cat's dirty needs

AIBU just to refill her water bowl from the puddle outside rather than from the clean, fresh water tap? At least that way she might fucking drink it

Obviously the summer months may be hard but I could invest in a rain-catching device (of which the real word escapes me)

AIBU?

@hennaoj try tinned pineapple, that worked with my dog. Good luck.

StoneColdSaidSo · 31/01/2020 20:09

My cats either drink running tap water or puddle water, never out of their bowls. My dogs will drink out their bowls and then still go outside and drink out of a puddle 🙄

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 31/01/2020 20:12

Mine only drinks from the lid of an old hairspray bottle, and only when it's freshly filled in the wee hours from the bathroom tap by a newly awoken human.

cochineal7 · 31/01/2020 20:13

Mine only drinks from a massive vase. Had enough of refilling the entire thing of several liters all the time, so managed to find a small bowl that just sits right on the top. Thank goodness she hasn’t noticed. Yet.

madcatladyforever · 31/01/2020 20:14

I live near the White Springs in Glastonbury and live on the pure sweet spring water. Ancient kitty tells me it's shit and she isn't drinking that....ever.

Drbrowns · 31/01/2020 20:17

My dog when I was growing up used to do this. We used to filter her water through house plants and she’s drink the run off. During the summer the house plants would be nearly dead from over watering.

ContinuityError · 31/01/2020 20:20

You do realise she's drinking from your water glass on the bedside table?

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 31/01/2020 20:21

Mine will only drink from a glass (woke up to him on my bedside table drinking from mine, I now take my water bottle to bed), or a mug. I've tried a fountain, ceramic bowls, metal bowls, a bowl on a little stand, not interested. I had a large mug I used to use for soup, it's now his water bowl.

CarolinaPink · 31/01/2020 20:22

Just use the tap, OP. Life is all about choices and consequences, even for a cat 😬

scaryteacher · 31/01/2020 20:22

I have a big plastic tub of rain water outside the back door. I have to go outside with a jug so I can fill up the water bowls.

CSIblonde · 31/01/2020 20:22

Mine will only drink if she's sat on the sink draining board & seen it go into the bowl from the tap herself. Has to be fresh & inspected first with a long meditation stare at the wall half way thru too. It's a serious business.

Mia184 · 31/01/2020 20:24

Mine likes to drink out of the toilet.

Mine were like this but it was the bowl that was the issue bizarrely, I only discovered this when I left a mixing jug of water on the side in my kitchen, ready to pour into a pan, all four of mine happily stuck their heads in that to drink!

Ours drank more after I bought a water filter.

weegiemum · 31/01/2020 20:56

Our rabbit once tried to drink out of the toilet and fell in.

Cat only drinks from the dog bowl, dog likes toilet water. Euuuch!

JustDanceAddict · 31/01/2020 20:59

Mine likes the toilet and a glass of water, and also is not averse to a dirty puddle too.
She drinks from her bowl too though!!

Buggedandconfused · 31/01/2020 21:04

Mine drinks from the (blocked) gutter on my conservatory. Stagnat, full of leaves, slime and moss.

twoshedsjackson · 31/01/2020 21:10

Mine likes the bedside glass, so in the end I got a carafe. He also likes the rainwater collected in the manhole cover; more flavour, I guess.
But the favourite is freshly brewed tea, if I'm careless enough to put my mug down.

BlossomCat · 31/01/2020 21:21

I often find my boy sitting in the bath, or on the toilet seat, looking at me expectantly or yowling for me to attend to his needs.
I then have to fill up a teacup that lives on the windowsill with tap water, put it on the floor, then he drinks half and spills half.
Otherwise puddles, overflowing plant pots and the drain cover suit his refined tastes.
I have started adding water to his wet food to ensure that he gets enough fluids in, too.

ArbitraryNameChange · 31/01/2020 21:28

Perrier water left open so it goes flat. It's the only thing (apart from stinking stagnant water that makes her puke) she'll drink.

GrumpyMug2 · 31/01/2020 23:25

My girl does vom a lot so maybe I need to do the filtered two day old water trick. Because god knows, I haven't adjusted my life enough to her yet

Mine will only drink from the fancy cut glass bowl on the coffee table. I discovered this by accident.

He's a knob.

But at least its not the toilet I guess. 🤢

hangry · 31/01/2020 23:54

mine drink from the fish tanks. they don't slurp up any fish so it's usually fine. till one fell in. do wish i had a photo of that :)
