I know people arnt doctors but i just dont know if im being dramatic or not

Last week i became really ill, i had swollen glands under my neck and chin and armpits. It started with a coldsore so i just assumed i was run down

All swollen glands went apart from one ubder my armpit which has stayed and is hard. It was painful when it first appeared but not painful now. Since then ive had a chest infection of some sort which isnt getting better. I had an emergancy doc appointment on wednesday because i couldnt breathe properly, she gave me a blue inhaler and a brown one with an AeroChamber and im going back today to drop off a flem sample ( dont think ive spelt flem right )

But today i am really struggling. Even going up and down stairs i am struggling to catch a full breath. I was walking back from nursery today and felt somthing move slighty in or near lowest rib on my right side, since then it hurts when i breathe or cough

My gp listened to my chest and said if it got any worse she would send me to hospital so that really hasnt helped me wonder if i should go but im aware the NHS is dtretched enough as it is and dont want to waste their time

I feel terrible, ive had zero energy for days and not being able to breathe properly is making it difficult to sleep, i helped DP move a 2 seater couch last night from one side of the room to the othrr and had to sit back down to catch my breath, im worrying myself

It'll probably be quicker to go via your GP so give them a ring. It could be pleurisy, which I've had and it's quite unpleasant. I only went to the doctors after I had to lie on the floor after work, I'm daft though.

Spam88 · 31/01/2020 11:40

Can you get an emergency GP appointment?

FudgeBrownie2019 · 31/01/2020 11:41

YANBU to visit a hospital to check out any kind of breathing complication. Go and get yourself looked at properly. Flowers

QuestionableMouse · 31/01/2020 11:41

Yes, getting over again sounds like the right plan.

No doubt there will be people on here soon telling you not to go because your head isn't hanging off but your symptoms aren't improving despite treatment. Walk in or A&E depending what's available to you. Feel better 😀

Zombieseverywhere · 31/01/2020 11:42

Bewildered by you trying to move a sofa tbh.
If GPS were sending you a and e then head over.

Go to the hospital- you are not at all well. When I had those symptoms it was pneumonia. Insist on a cheat x ray if you can.

Tombliwho · 31/01/2020 11:48

Sad sounds awful. I'd go back to GP I think. Only because you don't want to be sat around waiting in A&E feeling like that if the GP could do something for you instead. Obviously if she sends you, so be it.

CinderEmma · 31/01/2020 11:49

Go to hospital. It sounds like you need seeing.

Purplewithred · 31/01/2020 11:50

GP if you can, A&E if nobody at the GP can see you today.

NurseButtercup · 31/01/2020 11:55

Try and get an emergency appt with your GP, if you can't get an appt call 111.

Winstonwolfe · 31/01/2020 12:00

I would go to hospital

BettyAll1 · 31/01/2020 12:08

This is not meant to scare you but just serve as a reason why you wouldn’t be unreasonable to go to A+E. I had a bad cold and increasing breathlessness in addition to pain in my ribs. I went to a+e and was sent home by the out of hours GP with antibiotics for a chest infection. It got worse so went back and they found 2 blood clots on my lungs (pulmonary embolisms). I’m fit healthy and in my mid 30s. If you’re having chest pains and breathlessness that’s getting worse go get it checked out.

iStruggleWithThePast · 31/01/2020 12:13

Thank you for the replies. The GP dont have any spare emergancy appointments today so said i should either go to a walk in or to hospital.

Ive just picked my son up from nursery so im going to have to wait till DP is home now before i do anything. This boy does not listen to me at the best of times, he will run riot if i try to take him with me

Bewildered by you trying to move a sofa tbh We got a new sofa delivered last night so needed to move our old ones, I left the rest of it to DP once i realised i was hindering more than helping

I dont feel well but i dont know if im just being a drama queen. I only went to the dcotors because DS's nursery teacher said my breathing really didnt sound right,

Thank you for everyones replies, i was expecting people to tell me to stop being pathetic and not waste the NHS time. Thank you for being nice Grin

I'm usually one for not going to A&E unless....well nothing. The only way you would find me in A&E would be if i was at deaths door. However in saying that, I do think you should seek medical advice. Call 111. See what they suggest. If it's A&E they suggest then so be it.

Pretenditsaplan · 31/01/2020 13:11

When i had similar it was a partially collapsed lung just an inch or so at the bottom brought on by flu. The first time was a 3 day stay while they shored me up with steriods through a nebuliser to help it heal. Once it goes its more likely to happen again so after that it was always just nebulisers at the drs or home. Breathing promblems and chest pain should ALWAYS be checked out by a medical professional.

Barton10 · 31/01/2020 14:01

Those are the same symptoms I had for Pneumonia last year, you need an urgent Drs appointment and a chest x ray, I ended up with 6 weeks of antibiotics to clear it.

ActualHornist · 31/01/2020 14:09

People generally don’t comment on your breathing or how well you look unless they think you’re going to drop dead on them.

Booboostwo · 31/01/2020 14:14

Your DH needs to come back from work or is there a relative/friend who could have DS, or would the nursery have him as an emergency? I really think you need to be looked at by a doctor if other people are commenting on your breathing!

Sh05 · 31/01/2020 14:22

I definitely think you should go to the hospital. I also think try and go sooner rather than later as it's Friday and a&e tends to be busier come evening time. Could your oh try and leave work early maybe?

iStruggleWithThePast · 31/01/2020 14:30

DP is finishing work early and coming back to look after DS & pick up DD while i go to hospital.

I got in the bath hoping the heat would help, DS got in aswell and tried to lay on my chest and my rib pain is horrendous now. I leant down to get my towel and it was a stabbing pain, its scared me that so i dont want to leave it any longer, just waiting for DP to get home then im getting a taxi to hospital

Again, not wanting to sound stupid, do i just go to A&E? Im not one for going hospitals normally so this is new!

OrlandoInTheWilderness · 31/01/2020 14:40

Yes get this checked ASAP

Pretenditsaplan · 31/01/2020 14:42

Dont drive yourself in case the stabbing pain causes an accident. If your being driven either dh or taxi then just walk into a&e and tell the receptoon your issue and details. If the pain gets worse and you cant get into the car or your breathing becomes more laboured ring 999 they will send an ambulance and take you in the ambulance entrance.

Pretenditsaplan · 31/01/2020 14:43

If your waiting in a&e and deteriorate dont hesitate to tell someone as well.

Josette77 · 31/01/2020 14:49

Are you coughing a lot? I'm wondering if you've punctured or broken a rib??? Yes go to emerge and keep us posted!!
