I know people arnt doctors but i just dont know if im being dramatic or not

Last week i became really ill, i had swollen glands under my neck and chin and armpits. It started with a coldsore so i just assumed i was run down

All swollen glands went apart from one ubder my armpit which has stayed and is hard. It was painful when it first appeared but not painful now. Since then ive had a chest infection of some sort which isnt getting better. I had an emergancy doc appointment on wednesday because i couldnt breathe properly, she gave me a blue inhaler and a brown one with an AeroChamber and im going back today to drop off a flem sample ( dont think ive spelt flem right )

But today i am really struggling. Even going up and down stairs i am struggling to catch a full breath. I was walking back from nursery today and felt somthing move slighty in or near lowest rib on my right side, since then it hurts when i breathe or cough

My gp listened to my chest and said if it got any worse she would send me to hospital so that really hasnt helped me wonder if i should go but im aware the NHS is dtretched enough as it is and dont want to waste their time

I feel terrible, ive had zero energy for days and not being able to breathe properly is making it difficult to sleep, i helped DP move a 2 seater couch last night from one side of the room to the othrr and had to sit back down to catch my breath, im worrying myself

Yes, just go to A&E. Good luck and feel better soon

BarbarAnna · 31/01/2020 14:53

I also wonder whether you have broken your ribs. Anyway sounds scary do get checked ASAP.

Comtesse · 31/01/2020 14:59

Go to hospital ASAP. How soon is your DP back? Can he meet you and DS at the hospital and take kiddo home?

Fedupofitnow123 · 31/01/2020 15:23

How are you op?

DontTouchTheMoustache · 31/01/2020 15:29

Hi op i have a chest infection right now as well and have previously been admitted with pneumonia. The advice is if you take the blue inhaler up to 10 times and no improvement then you should seek further help.
GP or walk in will be able to provide steroids and antibiotics (if it is bacterial).
Its scary i know, when i went to hospital i was at the point i couldnt speak or move but that came on very quickly (less than 24 hours) and and i couldnt eat a thing and had an extremely high temperature.
111 should absolutely be your first port of call, they can triage you effectively.

Wishforsnow · 31/01/2020 15:35

I hope you are on your way to A&E

iStruggleWithThePast · 31/01/2020 15:35

Im at hospital now, there was a blue area and a red area ( the red area is half the size of the blue area ) & they sent me to the red area, im waiting to be seen now

My rib pain isnt as bad as it was earlier but my breath is sucking in while im breathing, its hard to explain. Im worried now because this red bit is full of really poorly people, i dont feek as poorly as these people look

I hope they doy think im wasting theit time, i was frightened earlier now im feeling like maybe i was being dramatic

Dp told ne to go hospital days ago but coz he kept going on about that coronivirus i thought he was also being a drama queen Blush
( i dont think its that at all which is why i fobbed him off )

Good luck x

tenlittlecygnets · 31/01/2020 16:01

Well your dh is being silly saying you might have coronavirus, unless you have just returned from China, but it could be bronchitis or pleurisy - you did the right thing going to be seen.

I hope you are seen and treated soon.

BarbarAnna · 31/01/2020 16:01

You are not wasting anyone’s time based on your symptoms. Hope you get seen soon.

YouDoYou18 · 31/01/2020 16:03

I would go to A&E for breathing issues, however if you’re unsure then just call 111 and they’ll advise you on whether to go to GP or A&E!

TheMustressMhor · 31/01/2020 16:07

You're in the right place, OP, and I am sure you are not wasting their time.

Having difficulty and pain on breathing are serious symptoms which require urgent care.

Hope you feel better soon. Cake

Gruffalo45 · 31/01/2020 16:09

Hope it's nothing too serious

Cocolapew · 31/01/2020 16:09

Definitely did the right thing going. I have those symptoms with pleurisy which I get a few times a year but last year it was a clot in my lung. Good luck.

YasssKween · 31/01/2020 16:12

Exactly what A&E is for so don't feel bad! Hope you're ok Thanks

TokyoSushi · 31/01/2020 16:13

Get well soon OP!

iStruggleWithThePast · 31/01/2020 16:15

Aw well the doctor was really nice, he thinks its pleurisy? He said it is always better to be safe than sorry and to always come in if someone suspects a problem.

They gave me some paracetamol and im waiting in the blue area now to see another doctor. My temperature was 37.5 which is normalish isnt it? Im really glad he was nice about it, some people are seriously ill here, i seem in very good health compared to people around me

But this rib pain is worse when i cough so theres definetly some sort of issue isnt there

Thank you to everyone who replied, its good to hear other peoples input isnt it, i couldnt figure out if it was serious or if i was frightening myself,

Hed of just sent me home if there was no issue though wouldnt he

Well your dh is being silly saying you might have coronavirus, unless you have just returned from China Wasnt he being ridiculous Grin he got cross at me for saying that aswell but its true

I havnt been to china EVER the absolute pleb Grin

Ah I've had that OP and it's hard to explain the feeling isn't it? That sharp breathing in stab we all get sometimes but it's all the time. Hope you feel better soon - really pleased you went it's so uncomfortable and hopefully they can give you some decent pain relief to go home with Thanks

poppym12 · 31/01/2020 17:25

Pleurisy can be very painful, I'm glad you're being seen and treated.

Hawkmoth · 31/01/2020 17:31

Hope they get you sorted OP. Pleurisy is awful. On the plus side, everyone was very sympathetic when I had it a few times.

Take it easy.

CinderEmma · 31/01/2020 19:17

Glad you've been seen to. It did sound like Pleurisy to me my friend has had it a couple of tones and her symptoms were the same as yours.

Get well soon

Cocolapew · 31/01/2020 21:08

It helps to lie on the sore side with pleurisy Smile

iStruggleWithThePast · 31/01/2020 22:19

The 2nd doctor was really nice aswell. He gave me some iburofen to take home and said to wait to see what my flem sample came back from the doctors, to carry on using the inhalers and he said with the swollen glands ect he thought it stemmed from a viral infection

He said to drink a lot of fluids and he also mentioned sleeping on the same side the pain was in. He felt where i said it hurt and said it was most likely id caused a muscle sprain from coughing so much too

He was really nice, said i hadnt wasted their time & that he'd had people come in thinking they were having a heart attack and it turned out it was trapped wind, he said if your scared then its always best to just come in Blush

I do feel like a bit of an idiot though, i was really worried it was somthing sinister!

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to reply, im not good with pain as it is and the sudden ness of it really did shake me up,

Not sure what the next course of action is but i assume my GP will be in touch this week

Thanks everyone
