Aibu to expect a nappy not to explode, or to expect my children not to wake up soaked through their pjs and onto their beds.... 2 children both different ages, tried so many different brands.. and I don't really want to start changing them in the middle of the night (toddler and older child)

Any advice for good tried and tested brands????

@nodramallamaloo I haven’t read the full thread but we tried EVERYTHING with our boy and he would wake up in the morning absolutely soaked without fail. He pisses for england.
My husband read an online article about someone who double nappied their heavy wetter so he put a load of small holes in his normal nappy to relieve the pressure and put a same size nappy pant over the top to catch the excess and it worked! He’s been dry every night since. I couldn’t tell you exactly when we started but it’s been months of dry nights. His nappy is huge in the morning!! He’s 10 months now.
We use pampers overnight but it’d probably work with any brand.

dimdarkashian · 31/01/2020 19:00

@Crazybunnylady123 I have used exactly the same brands as you with no problems either. I like that they have the elasticated waist at the back.

xnw95x · 31/01/2020 19:14

I had this problem with my son, aged 2, he's a guzzler with his drinks, I started reducing how much I gave him and gave smaller amounts frequently. This has also helped with potty training too. When smaller I used Asda and Aldi branded nappies but then stuck with pampers pull nappy pants.

Angelil · 31/01/2020 19:20

Another vote for the reusables. We use BumGenius all in ones which are as simple to use as it gets.

Angelil · 31/01/2020 19:22

OH and no issues with smell either (the reusables only ever smell clean; disposables by contrast smell RANK even when he has only done a wee).

Magpiefeather · 31/01/2020 19:30

Tesco own brand (Fred + Flo) in + absorbency. The best we have found. Even used to go out of my way to go to a Tesco to get them as no others came close!

MajorFaffington · 31/01/2020 19:42

I haven’t read the full thread so this may have already been suggested (I think this might be where I read about it originally) but we found a nappy on forwards and another one on backwards overnight stopped nighttime leaks.

OneTooManyBathtimes · 31/01/2020 19:54

I've been having problems with Aldi ones recently. But Asda own seem to be working well for both my kids, 2 yrs and 4 months. 2yr old wears size 5+ 4 month wears size 3

Malacath · 31/01/2020 20:02

Another vote for the Dry Nites here. My DD used them until she was dry at night at nearly 5 y/o. They didn't seem to smell so bad either.
My nearly 4 y/o is in Lidl pull ups size 6 (biggest ones I think) and is ok so far. They don't smell great in the morning, but not much will after absorbing wees all night!

TheFuzzyStar · 31/01/2020 20:04

I swore by Tesco nappies until they rebranded them. We use Lidl ones now, they hardly ever leak.

fligglepige · 31/01/2020 20:08

Go up a size and cut out liquids after dinner.

Hushhush89 · 31/01/2020 20:46

Could be due to the way they sleep, my littlen will wake up wet alot but she sleeps on her front with her arms underneath and she ends up pushing the top of her nappy down

claireyjs · 31/01/2020 20:50

Try size 5 + and 6+. The plus means they are more absorbent and has nothing to do with size...I know that now, didnt initially but may help xx

JustMe1233 · 31/01/2020 21:00

Have you tried the Pampers Premium Protection pull-ups? My little boy wees alot and these are the best pull-ups I've used.

Danijo · 31/01/2020 21:23

You need to go up a size and they won’t leak ! Had this problem and a slightly bigger nappy solves it

karalou2 · 31/01/2020 23:45

Maybe try not giving them too much to drink before bed? Or with toddlers who are dry in the day, take them to the toilet before you go to bed yourself. Done calmly, it shouldn't disturb them too much.
I'm sure we've all woken to find the kids beds soaked or had an exploding nappy, now and again but it shouldn't be a regular thing.
I had 4 children who are all in their 40's now so they were mostly in towelling nappies, but for the Grandbabies, it's Pampers all the way! Good luck..

Nevergiveup1980 · 01/02/2020 00:59

I have twin boys, one the night time is perfect, they guzzle lots in the day, always have a wee before bed, the other I have to wake when I go to bed around midnight some nights are good, other nights he can fill 2 or 3 nappy pants? I cant advise all children are different?

Dramaofallama · 01/02/2020 01:24

The best brand I have found so far has been boots own brand. No leaks what so ever.

Lidl's I found ok. aldi, well I might have not bothered to put a nappy on as my DS just soaked through them.

NinaMama · 01/02/2020 01:33

Dry nites are great, recently switched our 3yo to the 4-7 years size and no more leaks where size 7 pampers baby dry were not coping.

urkidding · 01/02/2020 06:17

Try incontinence pads or potty in room to try to train them.

StudentMummy19 · 01/02/2020 10:58

@GiveHerHellFromUs 9 month old in size 5 Shock. My 17 month old is in size 3!

StudentMummy19 · 01/02/2020 11:01

@TheNoiseHurts size 6+ at that age!?

Some babies on this thread are rather large! Size 6 starts at 13kg!

dimdarkashian · 01/02/2020 11:54

@StudentMummy19 my 8 month old is in size 4 (he’s got a big bum Grin)

StudentMummy19 · 01/02/2020 11:59

@dimdarkashian I'm just so shocked! But I suppose we all come in different shapes and sizes. My daughter is on the 2nd percentile so I suppose she is small hence size 3 Grin

Kaykay066 · 01/02/2020 12:07

I use dry nites 8-14 for my 8 year old and he leaks regularly so combine with brolley sheets and full waterproof mattress/pillow duvet covers from dunelm mill costs me a fortune in those & washing etc he sleeps like a log so doesn’t ever wake when wet
