Nappies, seriously!?

nodramallamaloo · 30/01/2020 18:16

Aibu to expect a nappy not to explode, or to expect my children not to wake up soaked through their pjs and onto their beds.... 2 children both different ages, tried so many different brands.. and I don't really want to start changing them in the middle of the night (toddler and older child)

Any advice for good tried and tested brands????

My son goes to bed at 6 and I don't give him any liquids apart from his milk before bed after about 3pm.

Nappies are such a pain at nighttime! If you have a toddler and an older child can you potty train them now to avoid the issue? X

alphasox · 30/01/2020 18:55

I agree sizing is likely the issue. My 2 year old (but size of most 3 year olds) wears a size 7. Also Pampers premium protection keeps him dry over night but Pampers baby dry are not as good so I use those in the day only.

Are terry-towelling nappies no longer available?
I never had a problem with them combined with suitable size plastic pants.
Cheaper, & "environmentally friendly" before it was a buzz-word ,LOL

sleepymummy2019 · 30/01/2020 19:00

Reusable here.

Bamboozles with a rumparooz wrap and a hemp booster. Never ever leaks, and my baby feeds all night.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/01/2020 19:01

I'm going WAAAYYY back (and am in the US) but they used to have disposable pads you could put in a diaper for extra absorbency.

Had a Google, yep, they still make them and they're available in the UK....

bathorshower · 30/01/2020 19:01

Can you change them just before you go to bed? We used to do this with DD, which reduced the overflow.

okiedokieme · 30/01/2020 19:02

I used reusables, cotton. Didn't leak but maybe my girls didn't drink as much at bedtime? Dd 1 is autistic and used them until age 8

FoxFriend · 30/01/2020 19:03

Could it be a sizing issue? We use Kit and Kin, and they usually start to leak a bit when it’s time to move her to the next size up.

NearlyBaked · 30/01/2020 19:04

Can your 4 year old use the toilet/potty?
A friend of mine did 'dream wees' with her kids - lift them out of bed and put them on the loo at 11pm or whenever the adults went to bed. Kids didn't properly wake and went straight back to bed.

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 30/01/2020 19:05

I rate Aldi & Lidl for those sizes during the day. However my DS wore Pampers at nighttime and never leaked

SheChoseDown · 30/01/2020 19:05

Only ones to not leak even when they're bursting full after 12 hours is pamper premium nappy pants. Expensive but worth it.
Just moved to cheap brands in the day but christ they're bulky compared to pampers

yummychoccy · 30/01/2020 19:05

I would size both up for sure.

Surroundedbycats · 30/01/2020 19:07

Honestly, I still change 3 year old about 11pm as no nappy lasts 12 hours. Do it before I go to bed they never wake.

Si1ver · 30/01/2020 19:07

My one year old was having the same issues and I ended up doubling up. Size 5 (Aldi) underneath and a size four pull up (eco by Naty) over the top. Dry for a month now.

Nalanoodle · 30/01/2020 19:15

We don't have this trouble. I always used Pampers with both of mine. I used Asda little angels for a few months. Currently using Pampers again. He's just turned 2 and now in a 5. He still wakes up with a bulky nappy some mornings but not leaking.

Have you tried going up and down a size? I can't offer any other advice. I do remember some nappies leaking occasionally but it's rare.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 30/01/2020 19:17

Rascal & Friends from Tesco.

Tooyoungforthisshit · 30/01/2020 19:17

This may be a ridiculous idea but when I had this problem with dd someone suggested I put an incontinence pad in the nappy and it worked. No leaks after that.

angelikacpickles · 30/01/2020 19:19

The only pull-ups that don't leak for my 5 year old are the Dry Nites Pyjama Pants.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 30/01/2020 19:19

Little lamb bamboo reusables with a bamboo booster. Does my 2 year old all night.

Nalanoodle · 30/01/2020 19:21

@SheChoseDown

I agree I find all the other brands are bulkier than Pampers. They have a totally different smell too don't they.

MrsPeytonJones · 30/01/2020 19:24

Have you tried a reusable nappy cover/wrap over the top of the disposable nappy?

Louise91417 · 30/01/2020 19:25

I swear by lidls pull up pants..iv tried all the expensive brands and all soaked through in morning..i dont thing ds has ever been wet in morning when wearing lidl pull ups...

Mamabear144 · 30/01/2020 19:25

Pampers premium protection nappy pants size 6 on a nearly 2 year old but quite big for his age boy who never stops moving, we rarely have an explosion unless hes sick and think we've had one soaked through nappy in the morning in the last 8/9 months

Pinktornado · 30/01/2020 19:27

I agree with pps. We put our DS in nappies that were a size too big (for his weight band) and the leaks stopped. They looked enormous on him at first but it worked!
