Put a f*cking blanket over your baby

It’s horrible day- freezing light rain that sticks to your & face ice cold wind.

Nevertheless, am I still seeing 6 month old babies being strolled around in the pram wearing nothing but a coat, jeans and socks. No blanket, no raincover. Meanwhile their parents are dawdling by wearing a nice thick coat, a hat and a pair of gloves.

Are these people stupid or lazy? AIBU?

I hate that too. Must be so cold just sat down in a pram.

This really grips my s**t...its fine when you are walking around in the cold as you get to keep yourself warm...those poor babies are in prams with the wind etc blowing in on them, they can't move or get away from it.

Their poor little feet must be freezing with just socks on....gggrrrr

HomeMadeMadness · 30/01/2020 13:47

I've seen a few babies who I thought must be cold, although I remember when my eldest was about 1.5-2.5 he refused to have a blanket or rain cover - he'd throw the blanket on the floor and pull up the rain cover. I put him in waterproofs and just let him get on with it.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 30/01/2020 13:47

Probably the same people who put a blanket over for shade in the summer.
Yanbu

Cohle · 30/01/2020 13:47

You sound unpleasantly judgmental.

They probably have a better idea of their baby's temperature and the surrounding circumstances than you do from a quick glance.

You're not very nice are you?

BecauseReasons · 30/01/2020 13:49

I feel like this is a variation on a thread I saw earliee. Where do you all live that you're forever seeing this? Around my way, the kids are always trussed up like little overheatiing arctic explorers.

AhhARadoxBath · 30/01/2020 13:50

It infuriates me.
Recently after some freezing weather there was a kid of about 1 in a pushchair not shoes or socks..
The mother saw me look and said oh he has no footwear as ' he's a little shit who won't keep. Anything on just pulls it off'
I politely said, ah I remember my ds used to pull his socks off so I put tights under his trousers he soon gave up.
She glared and said he's a boy he's not wearing tights. He'll learn the hard way.
I was stunned! His toes looked so red and cold. She was in a scarf gloves and a massive long puffa coat.

PumpkinP · 30/01/2020 13:51

I wish my child would keep her blankets on the pram, all she ever does is kick them off so they end up tangled around the wheels or on the floor, I’m sure they spend more time on the floor! Though saying that she is 2, at 6 months that wouldn’t be the problem so no excuse really.

I’m sure I was judged for doing this. I used to wrap DD4 up but by the time we’d got to the end of the road she’d taken her socks off and kicked her blanket off, or managed to get her legs over the top of it. It didn’t matter how many times I put socks / shoes back on she’d take them off and chuck them. Tights worked to an extent but then she’d try and get them off and I’d end up with a kicking, screaming child.

5zeds · 30/01/2020 13:52

Yup. I think YABU. Coat trousers jumper socks sounds fine. It’s about 13 degrees not sub zero, you weirdo.

Elbeagle · 30/01/2020 13:52

This is the third thread in 2 days I’ve seen about babies being apparently underdressed and freezing.

Ohnoherewego62 · 30/01/2020 13:52

Are you friends with the coat lady???

Drabarni · 30/01/2020 13:53

This annoys me too.
Round here it's as you describe with the addition of mum, scowling and talking on phone, child facing away from mum, no interaction at all.
I often wonder what either gets from the relationship.

AhhARadoxBath · 30/01/2020 13:53

And where I live one of the little towns outside the city is very much full of people like this.
You know the type that swear at their kids and drag them around. It's awful.. I don't go there often as it's not nice.. ( only go for the wilkos lol)

Comeonbabyyay · 30/01/2020 13:53

I don’t know, unless you are following them all day you don’t know the whole story.
I find people are sometimes keeping them way too warm and overheating is actually a big danger.
Someone was annoying me last week saying oh the hands and feet get cold. When I had my baby in a carrier with a suit and leg and feet warmers and under my cardigan and coat. Definitely not cold.
Annoying

femidom12 · 30/01/2020 13:53

Can someone put a f**king blanket over you....

Elbeagle · 30/01/2020 13:53

Here too. It worries me. Overheating is far more of a risk to babies than being cold.

DesLynamsMoustache · 30/01/2020 13:54

Deja vu. We literally had this thread yesterday. It went down like a lead balloon then so I don't hold out much hope for this one.

Elbeagle · 30/01/2020 13:54

Surely they’ve got something on under the coat? Mine wears merino wool vest, a jumper and then his coat. If it’s really cold I put tights or merino wool leggings under his trousers too, as he throws blankets off.

NaviSprite · 30/01/2020 13:55

Mine are serial hat, gloves, shoes, socks removers (have been since they hit 10 months) when out in their pushchair and my DS in particular overheats quicker than he gets cold, DD hates the rain cover it makes her scream. She’s broken 3 now.

So obviously in your opinion I’m a shit mum, cheers OP!

Obviously there are situations where the parents aren’t bothered/don’t think, then there are situations like mine. How do you tell the difference when watching from a distance I wonder?

NaviSprite · 30/01/2020 13:56

Oh and the last time I tried to put DS in tights he kicked me in the face/eye trying to escape- he doesn’t like anything too covering clothing wise and he panics when put in too many layers/clinging clothes.
