I want to change to be known as Ms. When looking on google about how to do that I came across a mn thread where there was some debate over pronunciation. Now I'm genuinely unsure...but obviously have to make a "Statement" for you to agree/disagree with to get a vote! Grin

I've heard Ms being mis mizz and miss being well...miss. but thread seemed to suggest that was nonsense and both should be miss.

So yanbu is they are pronounced differently
Yabu is they are the same.

If you're saying it with a surname then the pronunciation naturally changes to mizz but when asked by itself it is muzz.
Not sure if it's regional pronunciation. I keep getting called miss at the moment despite being very pregnant, very married and 'actually it's dr'. I'm even saying if Dr isn't an option then Ms but not miss! Then I get other people assume I'm Mrs dh name and ask for id to show that. I'm like 'no', that's not my name. I need to start wearing my name on a tag...

It's Mizz, not muzz.

RebeccaCloud9 · 01/02/2020 07:31

I've never heard it pronounced Mizz only Mzz.

100% muzz

KatherineJaneway · 01/02/2020 14:15

If you think its 'muzz', do you correct people who do not pronounce it that way?

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 01/02/2020 14:44

I think Mr is an abbreviated form of 'Mister' so that's how you say it. Same with 'Dr'- it's the first and last letters of doctor.

Ah, but I believe Mrs is an abbreviation of Mistress and we don't say that, do we???

isittheholidaysyet · 01/02/2020 14:51

I would say muhz.

So like the sound when you say the lower case letter 'm' (not the phonetic 'mmm' either) with a z afterwards.

So not mizz (As in fizz) or muzz (as buzz) but somewhere in between.

Not anymore, but at one time "mistress" was often pronounced as "missus" or similar. That's the origin of the current pronunciation of Mrs.

FuzzyPuffling · 01/02/2020 16:43

I'm going for "muhz"
