How on earth can anyone be arsed selling anything on FB

Listed an item

Replied to around 150 messages of "Is this still available"

No response.

"Does it have X?"

Yes, I said it did in the advert and it's also clearly in the picture so, yes.

"will you deliver?"

No, again I said in the advert, collection only.

"will you take a fiver?"

That is literally a 75% reduction, so no.

Somebody was meant to be coming to collect said item tonight after I spent an hour sending them pictures from every single angle in the planet and answering his 1000 questions about a very very simple uncomplicated item and he appears to have dropped off the face of the planet.

Arghhhh I would rather just take the item to the bloody tip it would be less hassle but as it is plastic I thought it would be better someone else got the use of it.

How can anyone ever be arsed?!?!

I remember actually I sold a TV a couple of years ago on there and the guy messaged me 18 months later asking if I had the manual for it!!

Unless I’m going to make a hundred or more, I charity shop stuff rather than sell it.

Try giving stuff away on Facebook for free, that’s when the real cheeky fucker pain in the arses show up!

The hassle is just not worth it.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 29/01/2020 19:30

Don't sell on Fb anymore for exactly that reason. A lot of time wasters and a lot of really unreasonable insultingly low offers....

TheBeesKnee · 29/01/2020 19:31

Desperate people in need of money, or people with too much free time. I sold a couple of bookshelves on Facebook and will never, ever go through that again. The next lot will be chopped for firewood!

ColourMyDreams · 29/01/2020 19:35

I've sold a few things on it.
People who message asking if I deliver or will I accept a lower price, I don't even respond to.
I put a time slot for collection and I won't deviate from it, so they either turn up or they don't.

PrincessSloth · 29/01/2020 19:37

Oh and my other favourite!!! Why are you selling it.

None of your bloody business but if you must know its because the hamster that used to live in the cage I am selling for 1/8th the cost of a new one despite being practically immaculate died and is now buried in my garden!!!!

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 29/01/2020 19:39

Oh god I agree! I was supposed to have someone coming to collect something tonight and they've messaged me at the last minute saying they've changed their mind.
I'm so annoyed. It's only 30 quid but I had turned down other people who wanted it and I really needed that money. If I wasn't so broke I'd give it away, I'm sure it would be gone in flash then!

anonacatchat · 29/01/2020 19:48

Opposite for me , been great . Haven't had any weird messages like that either 😅

PrincessSloth · 29/01/2020 19:51

OH AND ANOTHER ONE!

Would this be suitable for x breed of hamster?

I don't bloody know because I'm not a pet shop!

Well, I do know and the answer is no but still.

PinkiOcelot · 29/01/2020 19:58

It’s so annoying. Total time wasters. I had 1 woman text me saying she was on her way. Don’t know where she was coming from because she still hasn’t arrived!!

CryptoFascist · 29/01/2020 19:59

The ones asking the most questions never ever end up buying the item.

ActualHornist · 29/01/2020 19:59

God, YANBU. eBay is just as bad. It’s hardly worth my time trying to sell nice stuff or shit stuff.

PrincessSloth · 29/01/2020 20:01

I recently sold a broken tv on Facebook. It still turned on but there was a black bar across the top of the screen for a few mins after it was first turned on.

I listed it for £20. I got £30 because people were desperate for it. A broken tv. I'll never understand.

gem584848838 · 29/01/2020 20:03

I hate selling anything on Facebook. People are so bloody cheeky!

I was selling a pram that had only been used for 6 months and I had put on at quite a reasonable rate..someone messages and offered 50% of what I'm asking for and when I say no as it is so new and I have asked for a reasonable amount compared to what I bought it for she gives me some sob story about not having a job blah blah blah. I seriously felt like messaging back and saying 'And??' I did offer to knock £10 off anyway as I wanted it gone but she didn't want to know.Really pisses me off

MaureenMLove · 29/01/2020 20:04

I sold loads of furniture just before Christmas on Marketplace. It was great.

I listed a freezer on there and it was collected within the hour! I got a bit carried away when I decided I didn't need my bedside tables though. Took a random picture of them and again within the hour someone wanted them, so I had to run upstairs and empty them!

Whitelisbon · 29/01/2020 20:11

I was trying to give away a triple swing set and slide once. For free. Had to be dismantled and collected, but was totally free.
Advert stated that I was unable to deliver as I had no car (I did, I just couldn't be arsed).
One bloke reported me to admin as I told him I couldn't deliver.
Another bloke demanded I throw in the trampoline and sandpit that could also be seen in the very background of one of the pictures.
I had multiple people tell me they were on their way to collect who never appeared.
In the end, a lady appeared in a fiesta, and with a toddler in tow, and proceeded to dismantle it and load it bit by bit into her car, it took her about 6 trips and most of the day, and, on the last trip, she arrived with a football for my son who'd amused her toddler most of the day, and a bunch of flowers for me.
I swore I'd never do it again, and I never have. Not worth the hassle!

Elieza · 29/01/2020 20:34

I tried to sell a reasonably large coffee table for £30 or auction starting at £10, must be collected.

One hour after I listed it a woman messages to ask would I take a tenner now as a final offer and she’ll arrange her own courier.

No I bloody well won’t you stupid cow as I’ve only just listed it and I’m not having a courier pick it up NOT because I am too stupid to arrange it but because I can’t be fucking arsed sitting in all day waiting for him.

Didn’t tell her that though I’m case she bid, won and then left me bad feedback for some non existent flaw, so just reminded her the buy it now price is £30 and I don’t do couriers whomever books them.

Ihatesundays · 29/01/2020 20:43

I just sold something. We only sold it rather than donating it because it was heavy/didn’t fit in my car.
It took nearly 2 weeks because of the number of people asking me to deliver, stupid questions about the item which were obvious if you looked at the picture and asking where I was - it’s in the bloody description!
4 people arranged to buy it and then blanked me. Why?!?
Nice sensible people picked it up yesterday thank god!

Stinkycatbreath · 29/01/2020 20:49

I tried a sell a child carrier for hiking worth about 90.00 originally for 15.00. I out pix of it and a link to manufacturers information for the weight specifications on there and got bombarded with questions like What colour is it? Please see decription. Is is it for boys or girls? What the the hell? Either you cretin. What weight will it take.... please see link. Jeez people are annoying. Will i sell it for a fiver and deliver? No I won't. I took it to a charity shop to spite them all.

PurpleFlower1983 · 29/01/2020 20:53

I sold a high chair that I paid £20 for for £35 and a dress I paid £8 for for a tenner this week. It’s going well for me!

BorneoBabe · 29/01/2020 20:55

Agree, OP. I can't be bothered anymore unless it's something that will get a good price, like a laptop.

My worst was when a punter called me a 'dumb bitch' and that I should be grateful for her offer (50% off). I got full asking a few hours later. Hmm

Toomanycats99 · 29/01/2020 21:08

I tried to sell my daughters daybed. Really nice one. Got a message from a lady offering me half the price it was up for (which wasn't loads'.

I said no

But I have to buy a mattress and get it delivered and I'm pregnant and the baby's due now and I'm living in one room.

Still no! - suggested she look on freecycle. Plus she kept calling me my dear which pissed me off completely.

'Next day for another offer from another person - same half price - but its for my aunt and she's very il.

No again!

I suspect the same person with another Facebook name.

I've offered other items and had people turn up within 30 minutes of saying they would like it.

Strangerthingshere · 29/01/2020 21:12

I agree, I have probably a 50% success rate. The dearer or more valuable the item the worse it gets. Said to my husband yesterday I was tempted to just give up and take it to charity shop. It's the stupid offers that are ridiculously low and the waiting home for someone not to turn up which annoy me the most

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 29/01/2020 21:40

A friend of mine was selling a car. Two blokes turned up to look at it. One was poking around in the boot whilst the other wanted to look at the engine. They then all went off for a test drive and the car started playing up. They offered her less than half what she was asking as obviously the car had a fault. She said no, she’d sort it out and after some badgering and trying to persuade her, they left. Turned out to be a well known scam where they turn up in a pair, one distracts you at the engine while the other one does something to the exhaust. Bastards.

Woeisme99 · 29/01/2020 21:46

I have away a baby item the other day. Had at least 40 messages from a girl, she was obviously hard up so I patiently answered all her questions, and even ended up delivering the item and leaving it by her front door as she was out. Cheeky witch didn't even message me to say thank you, never again!
