Sigh.
There's an idiot who drives exceedingly dangerously locally.

I probably see him 2 or 3 times a week as I Potter around our local Asda. Though have seen him also in the nearby city. Think I must have a radar for car tossers.

I'd love to report him but can't as his registration doesn't seem to exist Hmm. Which us probably why he feels he can drive with such utter contempt for the laws of the road.

Yesterday he spread through a pedestrian crossing, causing a teenager to have to jump out of the way, and I'm incensed.

Short of driving around all the residential roads in the hope of catching a glorious glimpse, I can't really offer the police enough info And the likelihood of seeing it is slim I would imagine

Please please help me decipher this:

67 ooo

(using lower case to clarify what I believe it's purporting to be.

Cheers, crime solving side of MN. Wink

Is that the reg number or what it may be? If it is I'm assuming you've looked on DVLA and it doesn't exist?

I have a neighbour who's car is used to take up a space - drives me nuts! It's red but DVLA has it has a blue Rover. Apparently all I can do is email or write to DVLA to inform them.

Might be worth a go?

Guardsman18 · 29/01/2020 15:51
  • as a blue rover and it isn't a rover!
TopOftheNaughtyList · 29/01/2020 16:04

Assuming those are three lower case letters (rather than numbers) you're correct, it doesn't exist. I'd call the non emergency number to report this guy though. Give them lots of info about the make/model/colour of the car, give examples of the dangerous driving you've witnessed, and that you suspect he has fake licence plates. They can make a note on their systems to look out for him when there's a patrol car out. If you're seeing this driver regularly, chances are they'll soon spot him too (even better if it's a 'plain clothes police car').

Brokenlightfitting · 29/01/2020 16:11

Vintage cars are not required to be taxed?

Brokenlightfitting · 29/01/2020 16:12

Google historic car registration- prior to 1979 not required

redwednesday · 29/01/2020 16:14

Ask on a local Facebook page? Other people might have seen him and it'll alert the local neighbourhood watch/police as apparently they keep an eye on such pages.

theendoftheendoftheend · 29/01/2020 16:16

Ring the police with the details you have, if the IP has reported it then they'll have a witness (you). They can search on PNC for the make/model/colour and part VRM.

latheritup · 29/01/2020 16:19

Can you get a picture of it? It'll be easier for me to work out that way. I work with cars and people can muddle with registration plates to make it look like something else.

Amicompletelyinsane · 29/01/2020 16:22

Historic vehicles still show up when searched for. It just says they are untaxed.

BronteSisters · 29/01/2020 16:22

Get a dash cam and the next time he does something so stupid in front of you all you need to do is send the footage to the police.

EvilPea · 29/01/2020 16:23

Vintage cars do need to be on the system and taxed (tick box) or sorned every year. They also don’t need an mot unless extensively changed.

Yes what everyone else has said ring 101 and report his dangerous driving. And yes if you’ve a good local Facebook someone may have dash cam footage. Although the plate doesn’t exist the police may be able to look on the number plate recognition

EvilPea · 29/01/2020 16:25

Have you tried d’s as the o’s I’m assuming you’ve also tried the combinations of numbers and letters as o’s

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 29/01/2020 16:25

OP - I wouldn’t blame you for reporting him but just to let you know - the police will do absolutely nothing.

I recently was involved in a road rage incident where the driver almost caused me to crash, swerved around me on a busy residential road whilst near a zebra crossing (with lots of pedestrians around) and then, when I ended up behind him at the crossroads, wound down his window and hurled disgusting abuse at me/threatened me. (My crime? I was driving too slowly and he was trying to get his kid to school. Yes, he had a kid in the car!)

Im a pretty tough cookie but i was so thoroughly disgusted by his actions and the language he used I went straight to the police station. I was so shaken up but reported him and gave the police all the info, reg, car make etc, description of him etc.
They did nothing, they’ve put it on file as a public offence order but as there was no cctv or witnesses said there’s nothing they can do. They won’t even pay him a visit.
I told several of the school mums and one of them told me they’ve had an incident with the same guy. I suspect he probably has lots of ‘victims’ - he’s a real nasty piece of work.
It’s a joke but unfortunately the police just don’t care about stuff like this. Until someone is seriously injured or killed they can’t/won’t do anything.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 29/01/2020 16:30

Thanks guys.

I'll try treating the "o" as "D" good call. I'll have a fettle.

I just feel that contacting 101 will be fruitless without something more concrete, though a dashcam sounds a top idea thanks very much.

Is it a blue ford? 67 DOO came up with that.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 29/01/2020 16:32

ShesGot, sorry to hear of your experience. It's very unsettling isn't it?

There's so many obscured Reg plates jn our area - I think it's a contagion. And the drivers think they're invincible because they can't be identified.

Black merc.

But I guess, after what a PP says about Red slash blue rover, who knows? Angry

Mmmmdanone · 29/01/2020 16:33

Although that reg shows a car from 1963 so probably not!

Els1e · 29/01/2020 16:38

Is it a Guernsey number plate? They are normally 5 digit numbers.

EvilPea · 29/01/2020 16:44

we have a pandemic of fake plates round here. But it’s only worth it if the reg pings as taxed & insures.

If someone’s driving badly round my area (I mean really dangerously) it’s always a merc coupe or Audi A5.
