DS3 ( turned 3 in november) has been using the potty for the last 5 months, he doesnt have accidents and is dry at night

Past few times we have been out and not had a toilet to hand ( park, long country path walk etc ) I have had to just help him go outside as we had no toilet access

But i cringe everytime and im embarressed even though its quiet and theres no people around

Im being silly arnt i? No one would say anything about it would they? I have anxiety so massively overthink minor things

YABU - its disgusting - find a toilet
YANBU - better outside than his pants

YANBU.

Lanaturnerssmileagain · 28/01/2020 11:49

YANBU - It’s part and parcel of being a parent!

MotherWol · 28/01/2020 11:49

YANBU, a tree wee is just part of country walks with a young child. Better that than an accident.

Paperyfish · 28/01/2020 11:49

YANBU
It’s fine when they’re little. My two did “cat wees” on occasion (like the cat does outside. Not in a litter tray or anything) a bit of privacy though is probably best!

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 28/01/2020 11:49

Perfectly reasonable

Wheresthebiffer2 · 28/01/2020 11:50

it's entirely reasonable - little children have to pee in a hurry - everyone knows that - don't worry about it.

LizziesTwin · 28/01/2020 11:51

Picnic wees. One of the biggest advantages of being a boy is being able to pee outside easily.

Lanaturnerssmileagain · 28/01/2020 11:52

And if anyone would look at a small child peeing (so long as it’s discreet and behind a tree, into a bush etc) and think “how disgusting” it says a lot more about them than you my dear (ie. they are neurotic, weird arseholes who probably get offended about pretty much anything!)

inwood · 28/01/2020 11:52

YANBU as long as it is eg in a park or somewhere with no toilet access. My next door neighbour has one several occasions held her kids above the kerb just outside their house. I can't believe that the kid couldn't wait to get inside.

I do remember having an almighty argument with DH when he informed me that he got the potty out for DD to have a poo in WH Smiths. That is wrong on every level. He never did it again.

BottleOfJameson · 28/01/2020 11:53

Unless you're weeing in a supermarket aisle or in someone's front garden crack on. It's not like there won't be animal wee there anyway so your hardly polluting anything.

bobstersmum · 28/01/2020 11:53

Of course it's OK! If it's fine for a dog to walk down the street peeing on everything, just because it wants to, it's definitely OK for a child to have an emergency wee outside.

Caterpillierfoot · 28/01/2020 11:55

I always felt embarrassed to do an emergency wee when my daughter was learning but then I thought it’s no different from a dog. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Greyhound22 · 28/01/2020 11:56

It's absolutely fine. I did raise an eyebrow at a women letting her son piddle in between two cars on a car park a few months back - he almost hit my feet and there was a Mothercare right by us with toilet facilities. But a small child behind a tree etc there's no prob at all.

isabellerossignol · 28/01/2020 11:57

OK on a country walk. Very much not OK in the corner of a National Trust garden/a street in the middle of town/a multi storey car park.

When I was toilet training my son I used to think 'would I have let DD pee in these circumstances, or would I have told her she had to wait until we found a toilet?'. Most of the time I concluded that a girl would have been told she had to wait, so that's what I did.

michaelbaubles · 28/01/2020 11:57

DS is 8 and still has to wee behind trees on a regular basis!

raspberryk · 28/01/2020 11:57

At least you didn't have to hover your dd over a drain in the town centre Blush

BiarritzCrackers · 28/01/2020 11:57

Fine for a small child anywhere; probably less offensive and copious than many dogs!

As for country walks - that's acceptable at any age; we don't all have bladders of steel.

Noshowlomo · 28/01/2020 11:58

I'm 39 and I will pee in a bush/behind a tree if there aren't any toilets around and I'm desperate.. so YANBU!!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 28/01/2020 11:58

Of course YANBU to let him wee when he needs to wee!

shamelessfamilyoverroad · 28/01/2020 11:59

I've been there many a time OP. My DD just turned 4 and likes to catch me out on most days out where there are no toilets nearby.

ColourMyDreams · 28/01/2020 12:01

Of course it's ok.
I was always holding one or the other of mine over a roadside grate.
No one will bat an eyelid.

BirthdayCakes · 28/01/2020 12:03

I accidentally chose YABU - because you're BU for worrying!

It's SOOOO fine OP - don't worry..

TheHagOnTheHill · 28/01/2020 12:03

I too have hovered my DD over various drains when she was a toddler.I found that done with no fuss it raised no eyebrows.

iStruggleWithThePast · 28/01/2020 12:34

I was really anxious when toilet training DD, she still had nappies at night and on long days out when she was 4 Blush

So having a younger child without a nappy is a new expierience for me especially out and about as i never had to worry with DD Blush

Thank you the replies. I have been worried people will think we are disgusting or dirty but at the same time i wouldnt want him to wet his pants but you are all right, hes just a small boy

Everybody does that OP. Don't worry about it one bit, be happy your little boy has done so well getting out of nappies and saving you lots of money😀
