iStruggleWithThePast · 28/01/2020 11:47

DS3 ( turned 3 in november) has been using the potty for the last 5 months, he doesnt have accidents and is dry at night

Past few times we have been out and not had a toilet to hand ( park, long country path walk etc ) I have had to just help him go outside as we had no toilet access

But i cringe everytime and im embarressed even though its quiet and theres no people around

Im being silly arnt i? No one would say anything about it would they? I have anxiety so massively overthink minor things

YABU - its disgusting - find a toilet
YANBU - better outside than his pants

Bush wee. Totally acceptable 😀

Snaleandthewhail · 28/01/2020 18:55

Watering the plants.

Urkiddingright · 28/01/2020 18:56

YANBU, I have had to do this with my DD’s before which is NOT FUN. Boys have that advantage, girls need the whole bottom half removing.

LakieLady · 28/01/2020 19:04

Never mind bush wees, I've had to have a parked car wee on more than one occasion since the fucking council started locking all the public loos at 7pm.

Strictly1972 · 28/01/2020 19:12

We go camping a lot so the kids have been known to do a bush wee or 2. I did have to draw the line when one of them needed a wee whilst in the school playground & asked if they could bush wee there 🤣

Scoobydoobywho · 28/01/2020 19:15

Out and about with no toilet close enough I'd have no issue with, but I was a bit surprised by seeing someone let their little girl do a wee on an area of grass on school grounds.

Strictly1972 · 28/01/2020 19:27

@Scooby it defo wasn’t me!

Scoobydoobywho · 28/01/2020 19:30

Yanbu

I've got a potty training just turned 3yo boy and am carting a potty everywhere. He has a wee warning/wait time of approximately 2.4 seconds 🤦

ColourMyDreams · 28/01/2020 20:38

@MintyMabel Well done you on your superb organisation skills 👍
Never had a child be caught short is amazing, you really must share your secret.
However, at one time or another us less organised and less skilled parents have had a child who have been caught short. It's unfortunate but there we go. ( Behind a tree if needs be )

hauntedvagina · 28/01/2020 20:41

Not at all, my 7 year old still does if he's caught short and in the summer, got into a disgusting habit of weeing in the drain at the side of the house!!

MintyMabel · 28/01/2020 20:49

Never had a child be caught short is amazing, you really must share your secret.

It's no secret. It's called go before you leave and most people manage it.

You would be very surprised how many people actually don't need to have their kids piss in the street.

Skysblue · 28/01/2020 20:51

My child had pollakiuria for a few months (triggered by school issues). Needed a wee every ten mins. Good times.

I am not sure there is a bit of our village left that he hasn’t weed on!

Next time people are “surprised” to see children weeing in a public place, remind yourself that you know nothing about pollakiuria.

Skysblue · 28/01/2020 20:58

Ps and as 3 kids in my son’s class have experienced a bout of pollakiuria at some point over the last 2 years, I’d say it’s pretty common.

hellcarryingahandbag · 28/01/2020 20:59

Don’t be such a chav! That’s so scruffy.

CasperGutman · 28/01/2020 21:04

If you've never been "caught short" then you've presumably never been out for a really long walk in the wilderness. If you're out walking in the hills for four or five hours it's not "getting caught short" it's just a fact of life that you'll need a week some time!

Gillian1980 · 28/01/2020 21:31

Yanbu.

I’ve had to hold dd over drains, behind trees, behind the car etc etc many times.

Always goes before we leave home or wherever we’ve been.... but still needs to go at the most inconvenient moments possible.

I couldn’t give a fig what anyone thinks.

mansviewpoint · 28/01/2020 21:52

Of course it's fine. I had to do this with a DD10 about 3 years ago. there is nothing wrong or embarrassing about this at all. Just obviously try to do it out of sight as much as possible. All reasonable people will be more embarrassed that they've just encroached on a 3 year old needing a wee than be angry.

Stinkycatbreath · 28/01/2020 22:08

I think it really dents their confidence if they wee their pants. We have a "wild wee" every time we go to the park. Don't sweat it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/01/2020 22:14

Don't be such a chat that's so scruffy.

How is having a condition or being of a certain age make you a chav. No one is sayin g "Oh it s okay to p iss where you want." No of course it's not if there are toilets very near by.
I find your comment a tad disablist to be perfectly honest.

ColourMyDreams · 28/01/2020 22:17

@MintyMabel Wow you really are on the ball.
How I wish my children could have held their bladder for hours once we left the house like yours.
After going to the toilet first of course.
Truly ashamed I am that I assisted my children to have a wee on the embankment of the M4 after a few hours of being held up in a huge tailback.
In full view of vehicles full of people too 😱
If only you had been in a nearby vehicle to offer me your wisdom.

hellcarryingahandbag · 28/01/2020 23:16

@Awwlookatmybabyspider the OP’s son isn’t handicapped though.

If you are going hours without working in a toilet stop, there is your problem.

Don't make your failings my fault.

ColourMyDreams · 28/01/2020 23:35

But I don't have any failings @MintyMabel unlike my kids bladders.
