iStruggleWithThePast · 28/01/2020 11:47

DS3 ( turned 3 in november) has been using the potty for the last 5 months, he doesnt have accidents and is dry at night

Past few times we have been out and not had a toilet to hand ( park, long country path walk etc ) I have had to just help him go outside as we had no toilet access

But i cringe everytime and im embarressed even though its quiet and theres no people around

Im being silly arnt i? No one would say anything about it would they? I have anxiety so massively overthink minor things

YABU - its disgusting - find a toilet
YANBU - better outside than his pants

Plus anyone who does look disapproving has either never had kids or taken them out of the house.
Ignore them.
I remember the heart sinking days of hearing one of the little ones saying mummy I need a wee when you're miles away from a loo.
Little buggers never seemed to want to go when we were yards from a loo 😅

GaryWilmottsTeeth · 28/01/2020 13:08

Both mine have done "wild wees" when needed. I did draw the line when DD was 3 and she asked if she could do a "wild poo" in the park though Envy

Jessbow · 28/01/2020 13:15

Right of passage isnt it?

We were at a country park the other day, had a picnic and we ( two adults and a 7year old boy all had a tree wee ( not together!)

What does small boy remember most about the day to tell grandma? Fab Climbing Frame? no.
Massive puddles that we waded through? no

The wee! ''I had a wee behind a tree!

HillAreas · 28/01/2020 13:21

Just be thankful he’s a boy. Girls are so much trickier Grin

Natsku · 28/01/2020 13:25

YANBU, DD had to do a few bush wees when she was potty training (and memorably one on her way home from her first day at school that ended up mostly on her clothes than on the ground)

JellyTeapot · 28/01/2020 13:28

YANBU, DS had many wees behind trees (still does occasionally) and I often have to make an alfresco pit stop if I'm out for a long run in the countryside Blush

RibenaMonsoon · 28/01/2020 13:34

If it makes you feel any better. DS is 3 and we had just picked up an icecream and were standing outside macdonalds.
It is a glass window and people sit at the window eating.
He said to me "mummy hold my ice cream)
I obliged, thinking he wanted to wipe his hands (he hates dirty hands) and he walked over to the window at macdonalds in full view of some poor people eating their lunch, pulled his pants right down to the ankles and promptly had a wee on the floor.
I could have died!! Shock

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 28/01/2020 13:39

Really don't worry, we have all been in that situation.

mumwon · 28/01/2020 13:40

(There is a group of trees around Uluru when we were walking round it … ahem) Grin

DdraigGoch · 28/01/2020 13:47

Surely having a wee behind a tree is normal at any age.

GameSetMatch · 28/01/2020 13:57

Totally fine, nobody would be bothered at all. The only time I have been offended by a child peeing/pooping was at the library story rhyme time, mum whipped out a potty in front of everybody whilst the little boy did a smelly poo, the toilet was no more than 20metres away.

Soubriquet · 28/01/2020 14:00

I’ve done it with ds (4) and even dd(6) if they were desperate.

Find a quick private spot and let them wee. It’s much better than them setting their pants

MintyMabel · 28/01/2020 14:05

YABU

Find a toilet like the rest of us manage to. Encouraging kids to do this outside is disgusting.

Bluetrews25 · 28/01/2020 14:07

The little DCs in China back in the early 90s wore trousers with a long, over all the crutch slit - like the fly on boxer shorts, but longer, so they could just stand still with feet apart, and pee down onto the floor. Was a bit suprised when I first saw that!
And who can forget a nationally beloved marathon running female needing to squat over a drain mid race a good few years ago?
He's not yet a 19 year old out on the lash pissing up a shop doorway.
It's mostly water.....

CarolinaPink · 28/01/2020 14:10

If you're out and about in t'country there's no reason at all why he shouldn't have a week if he needs one, just like all the sheep, cows and wild creatures who live out there.

When I'm out walking (I live in the country, I hasten to add) I don't hesitate to nip behind a tussock if I need to (which happens with increasing frequency, as I grow older).

CarolinaPink · 28/01/2020 14:10

Wee...

EverythingChanges321 · 28/01/2020 14:12

You’ve just reminded me OP that I need to order another SheWee. I gave my last one to a friend for her wild camping trip. Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/01/2020 14:15

BU or NBU doesn't come into it. Children, pregnant women and I'm sure those with diabetes are permitted to outside if the need be e.g. no toilets near by.
Obviously you'd do it discreetly.

CarolinaPink · 28/01/2020 16:41

You’ve just reminded me OP that I need to order another SheWee. I gave my last one to a friend for her wild camping trip.

I gave up with the SheeWee when I kept getting it the wrong way round in the tent at night, attempting to pee into a receptacle. Several times I flooded my sleeping bag 😳 I've never had a finely attuned sense of direction 😬

ColourMyDreams · 28/01/2020 18:29

@MintyMabel If there was an accessible toilet nearby then I'm sure most parents would take their kids to it!
Stop gnashing your teeth before you wear them to stumps.
@HillAreas With the daughters I used to put my hands on the back of their thighs and lift them up in a sitting position. It didn't do my back any favours.

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/01/2020 18:32

As long as you are discrete in the same way you would expect a grown man to be. Well, I think there is a little more leeway actually, so behind a bush is ok, in the street onto a garden isn't.

74NewStreet · 28/01/2020 18:34

Grim to think of so much pissing in public parks.

MintyMabel · 28/01/2020 18:39

If there was an accessible toilet nearby then I'm sure most parents would take their kids to it!

Or you plan it better and make sure kids don’t need to pee in the street or people’s gardens (which apparently isn’t at all acceptable, kids need to make sure they don’t need to pee then)

DD has a disability, her control was (and still is) really quite poor. She has never once had to pee in the street. It’s all about organisation.

MonaChopsis · 28/01/2020 18:40

A scenic wee is one of life's small joys, no matter what your age. NZ hiking huts often have a doorless dunny down a small path away from the hut so you can contemplate your navel on a loo but with all scenic benefits... Bliss!

Nanasueathome · 28/01/2020 18:51

Correct term is ‘nature wee’
