I see the US are rescuing their citizens.
How does this work?
Do they quarantine the plane, crew & passengers

Surely this just creates more risk

IMHO lockdown should mean lockdown

This is probably the most "I'm alright Jack" post I've ever read on MN. Welcome to the 2020s.

Bluntness100 · 30/01/2020 09:17

I think as long as it's done correctly then it's right to bring them back, I would wish to be brought back if it was me or mine.

RevolutionofourTime · 30/01/2020 09:31

I agree @Strugglingtodomybest. Is political liberalism completely dead?

No wonder Trump and Johnson were elected.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 30/01/2020 09:33

One thing there is to consider is that the evacuees will be stuck with each other in a confined spaces for hours, so there is more chance to catch the virus is one of them has is than if they’d stayed put in a house or flat with no strangers.

But of course it’s perfectly understandable they want to come home.

Trickyisntit · 30/01/2020 10:25

I

Skyejuly · 30/01/2020 10:44

This is absolutely not normal.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 30/01/2020 10:57

Now the man whose wife wasn’t allowed to travel by the Chinese says they are worried about being infected on the flight, as seems to have happen the Japanese evacuation, according to the Guardian.

Many of these passengers had shortly before been visiting Marseille

jasjas1973 · 30/01/2020 14:14

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Lockdown of entire cities, compulsory wearing of masks, extension of the public holiday, schools closed

There has to be more to this than we are being told, which is "its no worse than seasonal flu, low R0 number and all but the infirm fully recover"
But whole cities in lock down, ships quarantined, repatriation of citizens (who are then quarantined) Medics gloved and gowned ?

It doesn't add up, i don't buy the "its new" !!

Seasonal flu is "new" every year, thats why there is a different vaccine bought out each winter. but we don't see these precautions applied.

Either everyone is panicking for no good reason or something very worrying is happening.

Skyejuly · 30/01/2020 14:57

I agree ^

wheresmymojo · 30/01/2020 15:30

Pop over to my thread about it in the Preppers section which shines a light on why it isn't 'just like flu'.

I've linked to sources (and happy to link to any sources that are missing).

wheresmymojo · 30/01/2020 15:30

That was to @jasjas1973

Andylion · 30/01/2020 15:33

Those that live and work there- no way! They chose to live there, it's their normal, why should they be brought back to a country they don't live in?!

"How is this ‘their normal’?"

I sort of understand the logic behind the top statement. If you live in Wuhan, you have a home and, likely, friends and colleagues. If you are a tourist, you have no immediate support network. If the UK, or my country, Canada, had to prioritize bringing people home, I think it makes sense to put those who are resident in Wuhan/China at the bottom of the list, as long as there are no other health concerns that would make them more vulnerable to the corona virus.

jasjas1973 · 30/01/2020 21:10

@wheresmymojo

Interesting thread..... Cheers.

Legoandloldolls · 30/01/2020 21:20

If you was in China and it was lockdown, how would you buy food? Generally they tend to buy fresh food daily depending on region, near been to that part of China so who am I to guess. But my guess would be I'd be scared of no where to buy food or having enforced lockdown for a indefinite time. So getting back to UK could look attractive from that point of view.

It's going to reach here anyway so do you stop French coming here? It's going to be everywhere soon enough.

Welcome to modern life and cheap global transport. We can lock everyone away.

Do you live on the Wirral, OP?

MozzchopsThirty · 30/01/2020 21:56
