What’s this and how did it get to my front door?

Come home from work to find this stone thingy next to my front door. Looks like a drain cover but all of mine are metal? Does anyone know what it is? Could it be from the roof? AIBU to think it was aliens or burglars? It says Marley on it but googling Marley Covers just yields results for people covering Bob Marley songs. Hmm

What’s this and how did it get to my front door?

Should also say I’ve checked all the drains and manholes and none are missing covers.

Looks like the top of a front garden wall post?

TerrifiedandWorried · 27/01/2020 17:42

Marley make roof tiles- could that be it?

Clymene · 27/01/2020 17:42

Marley make extractor fans. Is it leaning against your house wall? How far is the front of your house from the street?

reallifegetsintheway2 · 27/01/2020 17:43

It looks like an old fashioned concrete coal bunker 'door'??

SouthwarkSkaters · 27/01/2020 17:43

Shape looks like a roof tile to me.

Robstersgirl · 27/01/2020 17:45

My house is on a major road. My wall was recently savaged but none of the bricks looked like this? Strange how it’s just turned up today? Could be part of my neighbours wall. I’ll go ask. I’m worried it could be the roof which is kind of why I asked. Thanks for the replies.

Has it fallen off the roof?

Somanysocks · 27/01/2020 17:45

Looks like something to do with a fireplace (pure guess).

LilyPinkNoah · 27/01/2020 17:45

Robstersgirl · 27/01/2020 17:45

No idea how to check the roof? It will have to wait till the morning as it’s a big old house it’s really hard to see as it’s a funny shaped roof.

Marley also make rood tiles

FabbyChix · 27/01/2020 17:50

Roof

weaselwords · 27/01/2020 17:50

Is it Morley! Could be part of a stove?

SoloMummy · 27/01/2020 17:52

Marley are drainage and plumbing specialists. Just odd how it got there.

sleepylittlebunnies · 27/01/2020 17:55

It looks like roof tiles, maybe some of yours have slid off or someone has left some samples for you to look at? Whenever I find random objects on my doorstep it’s usually things left by DH’s colleagues for an upcoming job.

MereDintofPandiculation · 27/01/2020 17:56

If it fell off the roof, you might expect to see some damage - chips off the side it landed on, chips scattered around the ground.

I presume from the size of your house you have a front garden? Otherwise I'd wonder whether someone left it there in order to avoid paying £5 at the tip.

Somanysocks · 27/01/2020 17:57

Just asked a builder who said it looked like a fireplace liner but how it got there who knows, maybe someone just flytipped it.

Put a light in your loft and walk around the house it should shine out?

Hingeandbracket · 27/01/2020 17:59

Marley roof tile

DorotheaHam · 27/01/2020 17:59

That's weird, there's one on the grass verge outside my house atm. Very slightly different ridging but same colour, similar size. No idea where that came from either.

Chesntoots · 27/01/2020 18:00

Surely if something the size of that fell off a roof it would be in a million pieces! It looks like somebody has carefully placed it there. No idea why though!

FrankRattlesnake · 27/01/2020 18:01

That’s an interlocking concrete roof tile. Confirmed given that Marley make roof tiles! Have you got a pic of the other side?

I’m surprised it didn’t smash if it fell from your roof!
