What's the best clinic in UK & Europe for 40+ to conceive?

Hi!

I have been through ART with Bristol Center for Reproductive Medicine. I had 8 folicules (5 looking very good), only 4 eggs, then only 1 became a healthy 3 day embryo. I understand that I am old. But somehow, I am not very happy with this outcome.

Although I am still waiting to hear from the lab regarding this one egg, I have little hope. And I am planing to move on, as I do not have time on my side.

My question to you is what IVF clinic would you recommend, including clinics in Europe. Moreover, I'd like to ask what is your opinion of using donor eggs.

Many thanks

Ana

There’s a website called Fertility Friends. It’s a fab source of information and support. You’ll be able to find tons of info on clinics.

TwinsetBeck · 26/01/2020 18:23

Used donated eggs in FIV Madrid fivmadrid.es/en/wellcome-to-fivmadrid/
Now have twins. Beautiful healthy girls. Wonderful clinic- so much better than the treatment we received in the uk.

Wait a second! Give this one a chance first. It sounds like you have given up on ot already.

Nurture in Nottingham are amazing. Please please please don’t go for care. My cycle went to shit with them as it wasn’t monitored properly and I didn’t have my egg collection on the right day and they tried to blame me for it - told me I was too fat for the drugs to work properly. My BMI was 26 at the time. Vile consultant - wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. I went on to have all of mine through nurture.

Good look, Fingers crossed for you - it’s a difficult road x

IVI Alicante.

16 years of TTC in the UK but they cracked it over there first time. No pun intended Grin

Pop over to the Infertility section within Becoming a Parent of MN.

Lots of great threads on this very subject, OP.

@smemorata
You are right, I am a pessimistic... It has been such an emotional rollercoaster, and all those hormones have affected my mood. Tomorrow I will know if that embryo became a healthy blastocyst for transfer. The probability that that's the case are around 1/3. Then after transfer, the chanced of a healthy baby are further reduced. I am therefore just preparing for the most likely scenario, whilst still hoping for a miracle! Thank you! xx

You are definitely NOT fat with a BMI of 26!!! It was NOT your fault!

In a similar position to you - I've already decided I will use an egg donor. I'm looking into European clinics too but am struggling to find the information I want. Following this post with interest.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/01/2020 22:28

Try posting in infertility or ask mnhq to move this

I went to ivi Madrid after 2 failed in uk via care

Imo abroad is better technology and freezing process and gave me higher drugs meant I have some left to freeze and one of those fets is now my almost 3yr old

Donor - I have friends And employers who tried with own eggs and failed and used donor and preg first donor cycle

Always said if all our frozen failed we would have done one round with donor as I was almost 44 when gave birth

smemorata · 27/01/2020 11:56

I hope it all goes well for you today xx

I feel so confused... Today I was told that I definitely have no blasts for transfer, which is a BIG disappointment, as I had 8 folicules, and 4 great eggs. My hubby is suspecting that the lab is not that great. Honestly, I think I should have asked more questions to the doctor. For example, in older women, above age 43, it appears that early egg retrieval doubles pregnancy chances. Mine were retrieved quite late, with folicules larger than 20mm... Also I read that a intramuscular administration of a dose of hCG (usually 10,000U) - as trigger - works better than hCG (Ovidrel). I was given Ovidrel 250 mcg. But other's clinical experience strongly suggests that 250 mcg of Ovidrel is most likely not equivalent in biological potency to 10,000 units of hCG. It probably only has 50%-70%of the potency of a 10,000U dose of hCGu and as such might not be sufficient to fully promote meiosis. For these reasons, I now suspect that I have not prepared myself well enough, and chose the wrong clinic to have treatment...

I'm sorry to hear that.

SomethingNewToRideOn · 27/01/2020 20:50

We used Eugin clinic in Barcelona. Amazing, a really good experience. We have DT's.

Best friend used IVI Alicante, they also have DT's.

SomethingNewToRideOn · 27/01/2020 20:53

www.eugin.co.uk/ @WantToBeMum
Email them. Everyone speaks fantastic English.

MrsRagnarLothbrok · 27/01/2020 20:55

www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/ really good source of information, there are a few places in Spain and Cyprus that seem to have really good results

good luck with your journey

ittakes2 · 27/01/2020 20:58

Don’t give up on your one egg! My sister almost had identical stats - her one egg is now a strapping 13 year old!

I’m sorry I misread your post. Sorry you were not able to do a transfer. We used Argc in London who also help older women and often use drugs to suppress their immune system which seems to help. Also recommend acupuncture which has been proven to increase chances if used on the day of implant. The only thing I would question with your clinic is if you only had one embryo growing why they did not implant on day 2 and waited to blastocyst. I thought the blastocyst wait was only if you had several developed and waited until day 5/6 to determine the strongest.

AnaBeleza76 · 27/01/2020 22:51

@ittakes2
We've discussed transfer on d3, when one embryo looked very good. The embryologist said she didn't recommend it...
Now I am starting to realise that I have chosen the wrong clinic... So frustrating...
I am turning 44 in February...

No personal experience, but some friends were having a very in-depth conversation about this the other day, and mentioned this amazing clinic in Barcelona which is known for quick success... possibly the one mentioned by another poster above.
Apparently the more successful clinics follow a highly individual approach tailored specifically to your body, rather than the more generic approach and treatment most clinics offer. So you really need to do your research, look at success rates, etc. Best of luck!

sunshinepoppy · 28/01/2020 06:48

ARGC in London. They are the best for own eggs.
Serum in Athens for donor eggs.

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/01/2020 07:12

Care fertility worked for me. I was 38 during the stimulation and 39 when DC was born. 8 follicles and 1 useable embryo isn’t a bad result at any age least of all 43 - you might just need stronger meds
