To ask for 90s fancy dress ideas?

We are unfortunately turning 40 this year (gutted)!
Our friends are having a 90s fancy dress.....
Any suggestions?

Painted doc martens worn with floral skirt and either khaki or velvet jacket.

A 'body' if you can find one (usually scoop necked top, often brown, like a leotard but with poppers in the crotch that unpop at awkward moments) worn with stonewashed jeans.

Dark cherry coloured or lilac lipstick.

Thick cream-coloured cardigan.

Leggings worn under tartan pinafore dress.

Men - no beards or moustaches! Baggy jeans and bomber jacket. Spiked hair or 'curtains' if long enough.

Stick a load of butterfly clips in the front of your hair and have the back spiked up in a sort of fan. Put a plastic choker around your neck, wear some parachute pants, a strappy vest (or three), chunky trainers, and a mini back pack. Frosted everything for your make up with matt brown lipstick.

If Impulse O2 was still available I'd say douse yourself in that for the authentic 90s teen girl smell.

Clothes I remember wearing - cargo trousers (pockets on the legs!), platform trainers. Chokers or leather thong necklaces with wooden beads. Bead bracelets where the beads had different qualities! Darker liner on your lips than the lipstick colour!

Just go to urban outfitters - they have revived everything I had in my 90’s wardrobe

I’ve still got a can of impulse o2, it’s 3/4 full. I take it out now and then and squirt a tiny bit, sniff, and am transported back to 1996... it’s wonderful

Does anyone remember the Glints hair colours? I can still remember the smell. Great times when I had no greys to worry about. Plenty of blue eyeshadow and a pair of tracksuit bottoms with buttons all the way up the legs.

And dont be one bit gutted about turning 40. We could be in worse places. I will be 42 in March and it's all good.

Yes I guess there's always worse things.... I just so clearly remember my parents turning 40! It seems bizarre that I'm almost there!!!!

Floppy velvet hat, waistcoat, kappa trackies, Adidas jacket, combats and vest, platform shoes, kickers, sweater shop jumper, naff naff T shirt,colouring the front of your hair (hair mascara or wella colour moose), smelling of dewberry or white musk... These are all the awful things I can remember wearing at one point or another in the 90s.

Not meaning to name drop at all but.... we came uni possession of a Stone Island jacket that was used as a costume in the Scottish film Beats

Weird, I'm having a 90s party for my birthday this year! But I was a goth-y alternative youth so I'm just wheeling out the fishnets and eyeliner.

Black leggings with white chunky socks bunched down round the ankle.
