I have just been to visit my Aunt and Uncle, both early 80s, very quiet living couple.
They live in a culture de sac of other retired folks.
They have put up a sign on the gatepost at the end of their drive.
They proudly made it themselves.
The house is now named "Belle End"
Do I tell them?? Blush

Aghahahahahahahaha this is brilliant. Good on them for seeing the funny side.

There's a road in my town called Bell End.
A house opposite my mum has named their house Candida. As in the thrush infection.
Best one though is a lane in Scotland called Kinhell. My friend used to live at number 4. Blush

lindyloo57 · 26/01/2020 18:51

I don't know what it mean, please tell

thecatsabsentcojones · 26/01/2020 18:52

I’ve never laughed so much at a Mumsnet post in all my life, please ensure they keep that name, it’s brilliant.

CatEnabler · 26/01/2020 18:53

@Serin you could cleverly drop into conversation one afternoon how you were shocked at a local yobo calling your DP a bell end for parking too close to the yobo's scooter 😉 and say you were both shocked and confused and had to search up the meaning............

Barmychick · 26/01/2020 18:53

Superb! Made my day

iklboo · 26/01/2020 18:54

@NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat - a 'po' is slang for 'toilet'.

@lindyloo57 - a bell end is slang for a penis / tip of the penis

Charley50 · 26/01/2020 18:55

😂😂😂

simiisme · 26/01/2020 19:03

There's a house round the corner from us that's called 'Nokit' Been called that for as long as I can remember - at least 20 years.
I always think that they must be naturists, unless there's another meaning that I don't know?

Nanny0gg · 26/01/2020 19:04

@Toomuchtrouble4me

I suspect the WI is live action mumsnet

If you join the right one, it is!

Assuming WI members don't swear is like those tiresome people who come on here and tell us they are shocked that a site for mums contains so many swearwords. The ones who tell us that mums shouldn't swear.

Quite. We're not all in our dotage and to be honest, the 'racier' members with the most interesting and varied lives tend to be amongst the older ones. They have a tale or two to tell (often about their second or third husband...)

And OP - you don't need to be 60+ to join. I'm pretty sure the Gothic Valley WI (amongst others) has members considerably younger than that. Don't wait till retirement!

Dadtwoone · 26/01/2020 19:19

There is a road in Blackheath west mids called Bell end, if a road can be called it, I'm sure a house can.

Mcfantic · 26/01/2020 19:24

The High Anglican vicar at a church near us has named the vicarage (where he lives with his handsome Brazilian, err, housekeeper) “The Cardinal’s Hat”.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/01/2020 19:28

Dandelion is Pissenlit in French. Literally piss the bed.

Bellend is the present participle in German for the verb 'to bark' (bellen), so it literally means 'barking'.

Hast du gehört der bellender Hund?

MrsBrentford · 26/01/2020 19:28

My FIL, while a lovely man, is a huge hypochondriac and talks about his health A LOT.

They have named their ex council house “Neverwell House”.

A spayed female cat, maybe....?

PhilCornwall1 · 26/01/2020 19:32

Lol do they know what it means ? I'd have to tell them.

Of course they know. They can't get into their 80s and not. It's not a term that has just been invented!

They can call their house what they want. I think it's brilliant!! Grin

LouH1981 · 26/01/2020 19:35

This is GREAT!
I mean, I have a bad cough so sniggering shamelessly has made me cough and after having a baby 9 weeks ago my pelvic floor is shot...but this is comedy gold.
I also wish I lived in a Culture de Sac.

NotAnActualSheep · 26/01/2020 19:35

I give you "Bellenden Gardens" in Edinburgh. And the masterful shape of the road. This has to be a bunch of town planners having a laugh.

They cant call their house this?
FrenchFancie · 26/01/2020 19:36

So not quite the same but when I lived in a house in Uni we lived on ‘curry street’.... had a terrible time trying to order takeaway from the new Indian restaurant that opened (the older places were well aware, thankfully!)

PhilCornwall1 · 26/01/2020 19:37

keep wondering if the have registered it with the post office!

It's not the post office they'd have to inform in the first instance if they wish to use it as part of their address.

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 26/01/2020 19:39

There's a Lady Place Cottage and Lady Place Farm near to my parents.

Letsby Avenue is the best place for a police HQ. Is it South Yorkshire?

Clawdy · 26/01/2020 19:40

House on our road called "Twits End".

LouH1981 · 26/01/2020 19:42

@lottiegarbanzo That reminds me of my mum! My now ex brother in law is Jamaican and several years ago I bought him a cannabis leaf shaped candle from a festival. I showed it to my mum who innocently exclaimed ‘ooh that’s the Jamaican national leaf, isn’t it?’ - Yes mum, yes it is 🤣 (Didn’t correct her!)

Meggie2008 · 26/01/2020 19:43

I took a payment from a person at my work one day who lived in a street called Bell End. I misheard them at first and had to ask them to repeat themselves, and I think they thought I was being a wideo and making them say it twice but I genuinely didn't hear the first time 😂

TakeNoSHt · 26/01/2020 19:54

😂 this this cheered me up no end!!!

Gbtch · 26/01/2020 20:04

My husband says they know and are having a laugh. I would ask them and share the joke.
