Do you 'Expect' to Benefit from Your Parent's Will

My parents had nothing, so having no 'expectations' of an inheritance in years to come, I worked hard for everything I've got, but so many people own their own homes now, so am I being unreasonable in thinking that the vast majority of people these days 'expect' to benefit from their parent's Will, and wonder how they'd feel if parents left it all to people other than their children?

Yes, I retired early partly in order to be able to help my Mum. I have enough pension to live on, but expect an inheritance to provide a bit more of a safety buffer. Without that I would have carried on working for a few more years.

When my mum died my elder brother and I, who shared her estate, were very surprised at how much money she had to leave us. Then it turned out that my other, very rich brother, had been paying her a considerable amount every month to augment her pension.

Mum being Mum, she had not spent this but squirrelled it away.
My rich brother did look rather askance at realising other brother and I would be the beneficiaries of his generosity but he did not hold it against us. When he died he left a very large sum to me and our other brother and six figure sums to my DSs.This was 20 years ago, so a very valuable inheritance.

I and DH are doing everything we can to ensure as little as possible of our own money goes to the Taxman when we die. We want our sons to inherit as much as possible and we all talk freely about ways of ensuring that this happens.
