Watching his new song 'Monsters' and SOBBING.

How it talks to men.

"Man...I'm a tough guy, or so I thought. I drive a big truck for a living and miss out on so many family things. My dad passed away 12 years ago and I miss him. I just now, for the first time, heard this song and am parked for the day...sitting in the sleeper berth with a soaked t-shirt from, uncontrollably, crying like a baby. I'm not ashamed though...I loved my dad. This song really hit home."

Oh my. Such lovely lyrics in some places.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 23/01/2020 08:43

@SentimentalKiller
I struggle with his voice too. I managed because it’s a good song. I’m wondering whether he would do better writing songs for other people, and annihilating people on Twitter.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 23/01/2020 08:45

@SentimentalKiller I dislike his face. It really irritates me. And all his songs sound the same.

But honestly stick it out for this one!

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/01/2020 08:50

Oh, I'm a blubbering mess now

Damntheman · 23/01/2020 08:51

I've loved him for a long time! He just has such a beautiful soul and he's not afraid to show it. Very talented man, hilarious man! His twitter account is amazing. I miss my dad :(

Insaneinthemembury · 23/01/2020 08:53

I love him, he takes the piss out of himself and is so funny. His new album is really good, loads of songs on there I love, including this one.

Flagg · 23/01/2020 08:54

Bring back punk.

MrsMozartMkII · 23/01/2020 08:55

Beautiful song.

Ed Sheeran's "Supermarket Flowers" had me in tears. It's written from his mum's pov.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 23/01/2020 08:56

@MrsMozartMkII that one gets me every time

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 23/01/2020 08:56

Fucking hell. Cheers OP, was having a perfectly lovely day up until this thread Grin

Poetryinaction · 23/01/2020 09:00

That's a lovely song but I wish someone esle were singing it too.

Weaverspin · 23/01/2020 09:08

Incredible song and powerful emotion, but I really can't bear his voice.

OverthinkingThis · 23/01/2020 09:15

Wow, maybe the pregnancy hormones didn't help but I lasted just over a minute before dissolving into a snotty sobbing mess.

TheFairyCaravan · 23/01/2020 09:51

The first time I heard it was when he sang it at the Festival of Remembrance back in November minutes after DS1 had phoned just before he went on deployment. Me and DH cried our eyes out.

We can't listen to it without crying. It really pulls at the heart strings. I hope his dad gets a kidney.

Poetryinaction · 23/01/2020 10:21

Oh hang on a minute. His dad is still alive? From the OP I thought he died 12 years ago. And from the lyrics.
How weird and personal to have his dying dad in a teary video, saying goodbye.

Sojo88 · 23/01/2020 10:46

I think that was a quote from someone else. The point is his dad could well die, if they don't find a match soon. I think it was sweet to have him in the video.

GeraltOfRivia · 23/01/2020 11:02

Woah. We are rapidly approaching the 7th anniversary of my dad's death and that's really got me. What a powerful song and video. Simple and eloquent.

Willow2017 · 23/01/2020 11:48

From the OP I thought he died 12 years ago. And from the lyrics.

Ops dad died 12 years ago it's quite clear!

DeRigueurMortis · 23/01/2020 11:50

So I clicked the link thinking you were all being a tad lot dramatic but I was blubbing by the first chorus Blush.

It's a very powerful/beautiful song that a think eloquently describes the point at which as a child, you have to let your parent go.

AudacityOfHope · 23/01/2020 11:52

Holy fuckballs that is dreadful.

Sounds like an overwrought squirrel who's been sucking helium.

He does seem like a good guy, but... christ, just no.

Ninkanink · 23/01/2020 11:52

I believe OP was quoting a man who had made that comment on YouTube, who was remembering his father who had died 12 years previously.

SouthWestmom · 23/01/2020 11:57

I don't get it.

Why have his dad in the video ? A bit presumptuous. If the song was about hope and fear maybe.

Loved it til the dad appeared.

SoupDragon · 23/01/2020 12:04

“Monsters is a eulogy to my father – except he’s still alive and kicking. But he’s not been well — his kidneys are functioning at just 11%,” Blunt posted. “And with that realisation, I needed to tell him that, to me, he’s more than just a father. He’s my friend too, and that I love him.”

Sojo88 · 23/01/2020 12:07

Ops dad died 12 years ago it's quite clear!

But it's in quotation marks? Suggesting the OP is quoting someone else?

bellinisurge · 23/01/2020 12:15

I don't like him but this totally spoke to me. I've lost both parents.
I can't listen to Supermarket flowers. My dd got that album just after my mum died.
