Watching his new song 'Monsters' and SOBBING.

How it talks to men.

"Man...I'm a tough guy, or so I thought. I drive a big truck for a living and miss out on so many family things. My dad passed away 12 years ago and I miss him. I just now, for the first time, heard this song and am parked for the day...sitting in the sleeper berth with a soaked t-shirt from, uncontrollably, crying like a baby. I'm not ashamed though...I loved my dad. This song really hit home."

Still don't get it. The wording is like the last moments with someone. Weird when the person in the video is alive and has potential stay alive.

bellinisurge · 23/01/2020 13:40

He pretty much encapsulates all your thoughts when your parent is very poorly and facing the end of their life . If not at that moment but soon. And you both know it. Even if you win one health battle , and you rightly rejoice in that, and even if they look fiiiiiiine, you know the reality will come and kick you both in the arse soon enough. It's a weird dynamic. Nothing is the same.
It reflects that.

PETRONELLAS · 23/01/2020 13:48

Oh god that’s cringe yet amazing. I’ve ruined my make up. 20+ years for me. I was a child so different dynamic.
Anyone else sad - don’t feel alone x

EnidBlyton · 23/01/2020 19:54

why would you put yourself through watching the whole song?

bellinisurge · 23/01/2020 20:02

I will never watch it again. Just as I will never listen to Supermarket flowers again. And will never watch the episode of Buffy where she finds her Mum dead. However all three of those things have been the closest thing in creative form to match my experience of having elderly and very ill parents and losing them.

Awks · 23/01/2020 20:03

I worked with someone who served alongside him and who also said he's a very brave man. Proper good egg, he is .

TheFlis12345 · 23/01/2020 20:03

I made the mistake of reading an interview about how ill his dad is before watching this video last week, then ugly cried for about half an hour afterwards Sad The bit right at the end where his dad touches his arm just breaks my heart.

DesLynamsMoustache · 23/01/2020 20:16

@bellinisurge Oh god, the Buffy scene. I am in tears just thinking about it. It was one of the most poignant and affecting pieces of drama on TV I've ever seen.

bellinisurge · 23/01/2020 20:20

It really bloody was. It captured my feelings on losing my Dad exactly.

TheWoollybacksWife · 23/01/2020 20:35

It's the anniversary of my dad's death today. I'm in bits. I daren't send the link to my sisters Sad

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 23/01/2020 20:48

Oh god I miss my dad so much.

Damntheman · 23/01/2020 20:55

The 3rd anniversary of my dad's death is next Friday (31st). All the love to you all Flowers

bellinisurge · 23/01/2020 21:00

Oh, love @TheWoollybacksWife . I'm so sorry.
Everyone who's feeling it today, my deepest sympathy.

Divebar · 23/01/2020 21:04

I had a date with him once... before he was famous.

Goddammit! Dont go there! I had enough this morning with missing my dad. I am ancient and when life pulls the rug from me (on a regular basis) i just want my mum to talk to. It never gets easier.🙁

DianaT1969 · 23/01/2020 23:20

I read an article a couple of years ago where he credited Ed Sheeran for his new writing style. He said that Ed advised him to drop the armour and write from the heart. That listeners recognise raw emotion and truth.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 23/01/2020 23:46

He's also one of the funniest things about Twitter

He's bloody hilarious on there, the way he responds to hecklers Grin
Totally self deprecating sense of humour, can laugh at himself too.
Don't think I'm going to listen to the new song just yet though as sounds like I'm going to be a blubbering mess if I do!

Flowers Flowers

Defenbaker · 23/01/2020 23:54

He said in a recent interview that a match has been found, so hopefully his father will be around for a while longer.

The song is very powerful, but I do think it's a bit weird and pre-emptive, as it very much evokes a death bed scenario, which hasn't happened yet. Mind you, JB has always been a bit weird. Nice tribute to his father though.

brittabot · 24/01/2020 00:02

My dad is still very much around (85!) so I am not keen on this saccharine nonsense. Having said that I think he’s usually funny and better than this!

Tigger85 · 24/01/2020 00:10

Fade in fade out by nothing more is another excellent song about fathers

I do like some of James blunts songs but I'm not overly keen on his voice.

SpaghettiSharon · 24/01/2020 00:12

Heard this on the radio a couple of weeks ago while driving home from visiting my dad. Had to pull over and compose myself. I don't think I've been affected by a song as much as this for many years. Haven't dared to share it with my brothers as it's even more close to home for them Sad.

Thedogscollar · 24/01/2020 01:13

Beautiful powerful song. Love James Blunt great singer/songwriter. Really hope his Dad gets a donor kidney soon. Hopefully this will help donor register too

FixItUpChappie · 24/01/2020 01:30

Oh. That made me cry Sad

Ladiva1971 · 24/01/2020 01:54

I heard this yesterday and it made me cry. It is a beautiful song, beautifully sung.
