Head/neck injury

Quickadviceplease444 · 22/01/2020 23:31

Nc as this is bloody embarrassing.

Boyfriend picked me up backwards, so I stupidly bit him on the arse so he would put me down (next to sofa so thought he would just drop me on sofa) but no, he got a shock and fucking dropped me on the solid wood floor. Felt like my neck bent back and bashed head hard, now lying on floor with ice packs on my head and neck. Head feels fizzy and neck hurts but I could get up, I just feel dizzy and neck is hurting when I move my head back.

Should I just leave it and get it seen to if it gets worse or should I go to out of hours?

They need to know you fell on your head, they don't need to know how that happenned if it's bothering you telling them.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 22/01/2020 23:58

OK. Sorry for snapping in my other post. You've landed heavily on your head and neck, am I right in thinking that you've had near constant pain in your neck since then?

You absolutely need to me seen tonight. Our minors doesn't even deal with head injuries and would send straight to A&E, but you need checking tonight.

What other questions did you answer yes to on 111 online, btw?

When you say 'one line that hurts' what do you mean?

Rose789 · 22/01/2020 23:58

Glad you’re getting checked out. If you go to minor injuries and they suspect anything they can send you to a&e.
Keep your head as still as you can getting there. The reason 111 say ambulance is so your neck and head can be immobilized until xrays can be done

LaurieMarlow · 22/01/2020 23:59

shit really?

Yes really. Get yourself seen to. Keep your head/neck as still as possible.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 23/01/2020 00:00

Laurie is right btw.

I'm not just guessing here, you are absolutely justified in calling an ambulance. If you go to minors they'll immobilise you and ship you off to A&E anyway

Schuyler · 23/01/2020 00:00

Please don’t try to get up but have you tried? I wasn’t clear in your post. I know you think you can but perhaps you can’t. Don’t move, call an ambulance!

Marriedtoapenguin · 23/01/2020 00:03

If the answer to this question is yes, call 999.

Question: Have you been dropped on your head?

FairlyOddmother · 23/01/2020 00:05

Call an ambulance, this is potentially very serious. Don't feel daft, this is what they are for.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 23/01/2020 00:06

Brillo - suggesting 999 for a head and neck injury like this is not 'overly cautious' Hmm

Quickadviceplease444 · 23/01/2020 00:07

@SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing it’s fine! I get you, nothing more annoying than seeing someone asking for advice and them ignoring it completely. I’m just such a fuss with a&e as I know they’re crazy understaffed atm and don’t need more to deal with. Can’t remember the questions but when I say one line I mean like if you drew a line down the centre of your head and neck that’s the part that hurts? Rest is okay really

And yes in response to pp I can move! Just feels quite bruised and my head feels tingly and it’s sharp when I turn my head

Is it normal that my ears feel funny like they feel like blocked suddenly? Like you know when you’re on a plane and they need to pop?

OP posts:
SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 23/01/2020 00:10

No! That is not normal at all.

PLEASE call 999. You need to do it now.

lborgia · 23/01/2020 00:10

Ok, ears thing, need to go to hospital. Probably fine, but could be serious (years of working with brain surgeon)

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 23/01/2020 00:13

"yes in response to pp I can move! Just feels quite bruised and my head feels tingly and it’s sharp when I turn my head"

STOP moving your head around!!

ZenNudist · 23/01/2020 00:15

Ok dont panic. Just go to a&e. A head injury is going to do slightly funny things to you. It might be nothing but better get seen. Dont downplay it too much as you will be there hours. Irs going to make you feel quite fragile and emotional, or it did me recently.

I think the ambulance is a good idea but if youve already moved driving will get you there quickly.

Haggisfish · 23/01/2020 00:15

Good god op rarely are people so united. Just get to a and e already.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 23/01/2020 00:16

Fgs, don't drive!!

Quickadviceplease444 · 23/01/2020 00:16

Off to a&e now! Thanks guys sorry for ignoring advice earlier will update later x

Good luck. Don't play down your symptoms and tell them exactly how it happened (you can leave out the bum biting part Grin)

JohnVirgo · 23/01/2020 00:19

Omg OP hope you are ok - glad you are going to get seen.

2020bluegirl · 23/01/2020 00:22

@Quickadviceplease444 Good luck. Really praying for you.

Hope it's just a few bruises and a pulled ligament or two, and you're as right as rain by the weekend! Sad

Quickadviceplease444 · 23/01/2020 00:22

@SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing omg defo leaving the bum biting thing out lol 😂

SeaToSki · 23/01/2020 00:28

Please don't move you head from side to side or tilt it up and down. You really need to call an ambulance, not because your boyfriend can't drive you to a and e but because your spine needs to be imbolised. Your neck and spine could be hanging by a knife edge and any jerk or twist could move it too far and it will snap your spinal column. That means you will be paralysed. It's not worth messing with.

Quickadviceplease444 · 23/01/2020 00:42

Oh god that scared me @seatoski 🥴 already at hospital, would I not be in more pain if that was happening?

OP posts:
sleepylittlebunnies · 23/01/2020 00:56

In your position I’d have phoned 999 without moving off the floor. The nature of the fall, the way you landed on a hard surface and the symptoms since mean it wouldn’t be an over reaction. The consequences of not immobilising the neck and spine could be catastrophic. The pain doesn’t have to be severe for there to be a fracture or a dislocation. I think it’s so drummed into us not to use paramedics but this does count as an accident and an emergency.

As you’re already there it’s too late but for anyone else thinking that you’d moved anyway so you may as well travel by car, it doesn’t work like that.
