My 12 year old still loves Lego especially Star Wars and Ninjago etc. He had a large Star Wars ship for Xmas & still plays with it, reads Lego books etc.

My mother things he’s too old for it (although she hasn’t specified what she thinks he should be doing at 12)

I always thought Lego was for any age to be honest and would rather he played with Lego than spend hours on a screen....

Aibu? What should 12 year olds be doing?!

My DD2 is 21. She still likes to get the odd lego set. Pirates of the Carribbean was a Christmas present a couple of Christmases ago.

Your mum is talking through her arse. Get him whatever lego he is interested in. You are never too old for it.

She's wrong, lego is a great hobby to have and perfectly normal at aged 12. Billion times better than screens.

My daughter is 13 .. spent her Birthday money on a Stranger Things Lego set, and her Christmas money on a Star Wars set.

There are lots of things 13 year old girls do that could cause me worry, Lego isn’t one of them

My husband adores lego, he often asks for it for Xmas. It’s very good training for engineering or anything that needs creativity and fine motor skills.

Let your 12 yr enjoy! He could have many less healthy hobbies like being glued to a screen.

Sounds like your mum is just picking an argument.

I'm about to buy Lego's for my boyfriends 40th, never too old for lego. He finds it very relaxing and therapeutic.

You're never too old for Lego. DS1 is 17 and still enjoys it, he's putting some of his wages aside for the 1989 Batmobile!

I’m 45 and got the Lego Central Perk coffee shop for Christmas with all the Friends characters. Best Lego set I’ve ever had, especially loved making the characters themselves. And it’s 16+ on the box so I don’t feel to old for a good Lego set.

There is no such thing as too old for Lego.
Your mother is wrong.

My son & I have spent the last couple of weeks building Ninjago City & Ninjago Docks while we waited for the Chinese New Year sets to come out.
There are plenty of sets aimed at age 16 +

That would be because a lot of people well over the age of 10 buy Lego.

I’m an adult Lego collector although I’m quite particular and mainly do famous buildings , we have the large discontinued Eiffel Tower on permanent display .

DH has suddenly got into lego models (well a different brand but basically lego) in his 60s

My son is 12 and still loves Lego, in fact he bought a Lego set yesterday, he puts them on a shelf in his room. Some can be quite complex to put together and I actually quite like him chilling out putting together lego, keeps him off his xbox for a few hours! I know grown men who like and collect Lego so I don't think there is an age limit!

63 year old Dad got lego for Christmas this year - he was in the dining room for days building it since!

I'm 31 and have just taken my childhood lego from my parents house and am playing with it most evenings!!

I don't think you can be too old!

Maybe she would prefer it if he was getting drunk in a field with his mates?

Plenty of grown men (and women) still enjoy Lego - it's an ageless toy in my opinion.

My 16 year old son would utterly disagree with your mother as would I.

Lego is brilliant and part of the appeal is that it's "ageless".

There's a massive AFOL community (adult fans of Lego) who build spectacular models some of which have even gone on to be productised by Lego.

I'd recommend watching the documentary "Beyond the brick" Grin

He's too old for it when he decides he's too old for it. I suspect that he will be a long time dead before he' makes that choice - like most Lego enthusiasts.
