On FB, reading that someone has brought an item instead of bought an item makes me clench my teeth

annielennoxstuckinmyhead · 22/01/2020 12:47

I'm still haunted by the time a guy told me he was eating spag bowel for dinner. Was never able to look at him the same again.

Juliette20 · 22/01/2020 12:47

What is "crashed walwat" when it's at home anyway? Grin

SirTobyBelch · 22/01/2020 12:49

I currently have a student who says "aks" instead of ask (southern accent, so "aarks" vs "aarsk"). Making my nerves jangle a bit, as is the colleague who keeps wanting to "garnish" information rather than garner it. I'd like to offer the latter a report with a sprig of parsley on top.

saraclara · 22/01/2020 12:49

I saw a chesterdrawer (all one word) on my local FB selling group recently. But the name was foreign so I only smiled gently to myself, what with being a complete monoglot.

longwayoff · 22/01/2020 12:51

Friend says or-doss-itee instead of audacity. Tooth grinder.

Carpathian2 · 22/01/2020 12:51

My neighbour is claiming university credit Confused

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 22/01/2020 12:53

Crushed velvet.

Itsallgonewoowoo · 22/01/2020 12:56

Best one in the wild for me was waiting behind a lady at hospital, she asked for the Metallic Bone department. Give the receptionist all due credit, he only asked her to repeat herself a couple of times before he realised she meant metabolic.

WorryBadger · 22/01/2020 12:58

Saw a post from someone whose son had just been told he was "lacked toast, and tolerant"

MeetmeinParis · 22/01/2020 12:58

Oh soooooo many but I had a senior manger in my last job who used to refer to her "labtop" (laptop) all the time, the clue was in the name!, I so wanted to pick her up on it, she also used the "word" yous (Angry) to describe our team but that's for another thread!....

Scarfaceclaw21 · 22/01/2020 12:58

My good friend uses the word "generally" for genuinely. It took me a couple of times of hearing it to understand what she was one aboutI have tried to gently suggest it is incorrect but she talks so quickly it's like trying to interrupt a machine gun.

"She has such a good heart. I really generally believe she wouldn't do that"

She also pronoinces memes as "mem-eees" which I think is quite sweet.

Scarfaceclaw21 · 22/01/2020 12:59

Oh so many typos. My toddler is clambering all over me, if that can be used in my defence.

katseyes7 · 22/01/2020 13:02

l once saw a post on Facebook (no surprise there) by someone asking where she could buy eggs for her "lacked toast intolerant little boy"....

AmazingGreats · 22/01/2020 13:03

I think my accent does make it sound like I'm saying some of these BlushI always write them the right way though! Promise

Drabarni · 22/01/2020 13:04

I say chest o drawers , I do know it's chest of drawers.
Could just be accent.

Userwhatevernumber · 22/01/2020 13:10

A lot of these are probably because of accent and I think it’s unkind to take the mickey.

My parents are Jamaican and say most of these, and I would think anyone who corrected them would be a arrogant twat. They write them the right way though.

Userwhatevernumber · 22/01/2020 13:10

*an

Likethebattle · 22/01/2020 13:11

I’ve seen Chester drawers and dinning table. I used to work with someone who’d say ‘oh remember me to do that!’ If she wasn’t reminded as we all had our own tasks you know she’d say ‘why didn’t you remember me to do that?’ REMIND!!!!

Juliette20 · 22/01/2020 13:11

Crushed velvet.

Ha! Good grief Charlie Brown.

Bluerussian · 22/01/2020 13:17

Could have been worse such as: Chesta Draws.

Itsalready · 22/01/2020 13:20

@LizzyELane - off on a tandum - I'm still laughing at that Grin

Really bugs me when people say 'should of' or 'could of'

Also, why do people say the name Joseph as Jozeph?? There's no Z in there??

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 22/01/2020 13:20

Prostrate instead of prostate - makes me laugh every time!

My mother had a friend who talked about an 'apoplectic' pregnancy!

Mixing up borrow and lend is just horrible, as is mixing up know and no!

Somanysocks · 22/01/2020 13:22

Different to, separate to... it is different FROM and separate FROM.

RedRec · 22/01/2020 13:25

I can't bare it.
