Or are they crap? Are they worth the price tag? I love the look of them!

Kryton doesnt like them

Yadaaday · 21/01/2020 16:26

They look bulky and small on the inside. I like the style but I don’t think they are practical.

Heyjude20 · 21/01/2020 16:27

We don’t use the freezer much tbh, we need more fridge space.

Uh, I have a smeg 4-oven range and the kettle and toaster - all are stylish but temperamental. When I move or re-model, all 3 are going.

funnylittlefloozie · 21/01/2020 16:31

They look amazing, i agree, but they are relatively small inside.

I want the Samsung four-door American fridge-freezer with the ice and water machine. Not as posh as the Smeg, but much more functional (and in my eyes at least, MUCH more desirable).

Read the reviews

TheMemoryLingers · 21/01/2020 16:53

If money were no object, I'd like a Smeg kettle.

Lightsabre · 21/01/2020 16:54

Had mine for 15 years and still going strong. Stylish too!

pigdogridesagain · 21/01/2020 16:58

We had one and never again! They are expensive crap! Really badly made, with bits breaking easily. They look nice but are rubbish.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/01/2020 17:02

I wouldn't get Smeg anything every again after dealing with their customer service, it took a year for then to replace a faulty oven. They accidently sent me an email saying 'fob the customer off for as long as possible so we don't have to replace' - appalling after a £1000 oven breaks down after a few weeks.

Aragog · 21/01/2020 17:04

We have a tall retro style one in pastel blue. It is just one door with the small ice box style freezer bit at the top. We have a separate freezer in the utility.

We were told to avoid the new style Smeg appliances however the retro style fridges still got good reviews when we were looking.

I chose the fridge and designed my new kitchen around it! We've had ours for 4.5 years so far and never had any issues with it at all.

The Smeg kettle which matches the fridge however has recently had issues - the lid is really hard to lift for some reason.

AiryFairyMum · 21/01/2020 17:05

Love ours.

FizzyIce · 21/01/2020 17:06

Ugly and not much space inside .
My dad had a mint green one , it was foul

Abitofanexpert · 21/01/2020 17:11

We inherited one of the retro ones in black when we bought the house. Was style over substance and didn't last long. It's been sitting empty in our garage for about 3 years.

We replaced with a big American style one with drawer freezers and it's awesome. I absolutely love it. (it's also a Smeg!)

Wantabub · 21/01/2020 17:12

They are made by Beko anyway. Ice builds up so quickly too in the freezer. Not worth the money unfortunately.

ThatThereWoman · 21/01/2020 17:17

They're crap - style over substance def. I'm on my 3rd all have been replaced under warranty because they've broken irreparably.

HaudMaDug · 21/01/2020 17:36

Looks great but very bulky in smaller kitchen. Keep reversing into the sticky out door handle and knocking my elbows (not so funny bone).
Not enough freezer space. Pizzas have to be removed from boxes to fit and forget about trying to fit a stuffed crust Chicago town pizza without folding it. I've taken to unboxing and cutting mine in half as son as I get home with the half defrosted shopping. The only bonus being that I only need half a pizza at a time because I'm single.
Will not be replacing with another Smeg.

Hingeandbracket · 21/01/2020 17:41

Why not get the one from Wallace and Gromit - it had SMUG emblazoned across the front

damnthatanxiety · 21/01/2020 17:56

Didn't realise they still sold those retro ones. They seemed to be a novelty or fad. But that was a couple of decades ago. If they are still selling them then I am surprised.

YouTheCat · 21/01/2020 17:59

I want one just so I can put magnetic letters that say 'head' next to the brand name.

JunkshopLil · 21/01/2020 18:07

I've got a SMEG fridge. Just the small one. I bought if off Ebay for £150 and it's been brilliant. It suits my retro kitchen and fits perfectly into the space I had available.. I've got a separate non Smeg mini freezer which tucks away in a corner for frozen stuff.

They aren't the most spacious fridges in the world, but it depends what you want. Everyone says they are 'style over substance' but my experience is it's a perfectly good working fridge - does the job, and is easy to wipe clean etc. It also looks great.

Apart from making sure I defrost the icebox regularly (it has a habit of icing up if it's left for more than three months), I can't complain, but then for 150 quid why would I? Not sure I'd pay top dollar for a new one though.

thrree · 21/01/2020 19:55

Avoid them

Yadaaday · 21/01/2020 20:01

YouTheCat I always want to put ma at the end Grin

lowlandLucky · 21/01/2020 20:02

Style over substance

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 21/01/2020 20:04

I really like mine, have a tall retro one and it feels well made. I do have a separate freezer though as it’s so small. For all of you that want to make words on the front with SMEG, it’s not magnetic on the front, only the sides —I haven’t tried this at all—
