AIBU to think this is wrong?

CallofDoodee · 19/01/2020 10:12

That is a boy doll with a dress and long hair isn't it?

I suppose maybe you could have famous trans icon dolls. Daniela Muscato Barbie for example would be very popular I’m sure. Or Jessica. Yaniv.

The Yaniv one would carry a packet of wax strips and a box of tampons.

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/01/2020 10:16

Is it a doll that wees? Can it be used to write a name in the snow? If not, why not?

FlaviaAlbia · 19/01/2020 10:17

Unless your DS looks like a shifty 40yr old bloke with jowls, I don't think that doll pictured will do Grin there's something very odd about it's face, never mind it's genitals.

On the whole I think the notion that this doll is male, but by suddenly putting on a dress it is female is utterly bizarre.

CallofDoodee · 19/01/2020 10:21

Yeah the face is really odd isn't it!

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 19/01/2020 10:22

Yes, it's a baby boy with unusually long hair. I don't think I've ever seen an actual baby with such long hair.

peachgreen · 19/01/2020 10:23

Except there's absolutely no evidence it was marketed as a "transgender doll" and is more than likely a manufacturing mistake.

PuppyClub · 19/01/2020 10:26

@timmytoo that's the picture I tried to add. A little "girl" doll with a pens.

OP posts:
PuppyClub · 19/01/2020 10:28

They are advertised as transgender dolls. How do you add a picture?

OP posts:
TheVanguardSix · 19/01/2020 10:29

That is all kinds of wrong.
Ken never had a dick. I don't need little Pollyanna with pig tails to have one.

AnyOldPrion · 19/01/2020 10:31

Well it depends - normal dolls that you can dress in “boy” or “girl” clothes - fine.

David doll with snap off penis, and clever “growing breasts” to become Davina, less so.

Grin
CallofDoodee · 19/01/2020 10:35

Hmmm, if you Google 'transgender doll' then the pic posted on here comes up as a very recent result with links to random 'news sites'. But no actual evidence of any marketing or anything, just this picture taken in someone's living room.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/01/2020 10:39

Is it a thing marketed as a trans doll or is this picture just someone who had bought some cheap knock off doll from a pound shop only to find that it’s been made wrong and has a penis?

There is a massive difference.

peachgreen · 19/01/2020 10:39

Yup @callofdoodee. It's nonsense. There are two genuine, intentional transgender dolls I know of (setting aside "home made" ones which I imagine you can find on Etsy) - one modelled on Jazz Jennings and one that's a "Russian doll" type that shows the stages of questioning gender identity and is designed as a learning aid. Neither show genetalia.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/01/2020 10:40

CallofDoodle
A quick google suggests otherwise. This doll is for sale in Russia. And it’s vile. Child’s dolls have no genitalia and for good reason.

Thinkingabout1t · 19/01/2020 10:41

The doll in the picture is surely meant to represent a baby, judging from features and size of head in relation to body? A child of that age can’t imagine he’s in the wrong body. That comes from adults. Like Moosey says - vegan cat.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/01/2020 10:44

DD had a really ‘girly’ doll when she was little. It’s name was Kevin.

Newmetoday · 19/01/2020 10:45

Who cares? This thread is just an excuse to spout the usual transphobia shit.

minisoksmakehardwork · 19/01/2020 10:46

Apparently found in a Russian toy shop, but as @callofdoodee says, no evidence of marketing and there's no packaging. I would think someone has simply got a baby boy doll and rerooted the original hair with long hair.

Thinkingabout1t · 19/01/2020 10:50

CallofDoodee: The Yaniv doll would carry a packet of wax strips and a box of tampons.
and a list of ethnic-minority female beauticians to take legal action against. But the writing might be too small to read. Maybe it could come with its foot triumphantly placed on a smaller dark-skinned female-looking doll?

Oldishusernewname · 19/01/2020 10:54

So no links, no evidence, no reasons given as to what is "wrong", just a vague idea that something somewhere is possibly outrageous. Sigh. This is like everyone ranting about halal chocolate or the word Easter being removed from Easter eggs (when it was never there). How very bloody Daily Mail. Shame on you

PuppyClub · 19/01/2020 10:57

thehooksite.com/worlds-first-transgender-childrens-doll-spotted/

Apparently there will be a gender neutral Barbie too.

OP posts:
Oldishusernewname · 19/01/2020 11:01

This is a dubious "news" story based on some viral images with no provenance or proof behind it.

With regard to Barbie, something that is "apparently" happening is also not news and not something to try to get people frothed up about.

SyntheticPumpkin · 19/01/2020 11:02

Isn’t a gender-neutral Barbie just Ken?

NewName73 · 19/01/2020 11:02

Oh fuck off away from AIBU please OP. There are more appropriate boards on here for you to spout your goady opinions. Don't choose the most popular one on MN.

DickKerrLadies · 19/01/2020 11:03

It's a boy doll with long hair? Great, I'm all for boys playing with dolls and why shouldn't they have long hair? It's daft ideas such as 'dolls are only for girls' that I'd like to get away from.

A doll can't be transgender though.

It's a creepy looking doll though. And I say that as someone who got rid of a few dolls (with no genitalia) just because they had creepy faces.
