Would you have a baby at 42?

Stolen off another poster! I have a nearly 6 year old and considering giving them a sibling but not sure this is a good idea given that I'd be 42 by time the baby was born. Celebrities are doing it left right and centre but what about us mere mortals, is it a bad idea?

OP posts:
BoswellsBollocks · 18/01/2020 23:27

Christ no

Ohyesiam · 18/01/2020 23:29

I did at 41, Hes 12 now, it’s been great.

ploughingthrough · 18/01/2020 23:30

No way. I wouldn't be wanting to support kids through uni/early career in my early 60s when I want to be winding down!
Also I had my kids and 27 and 29 and it was fucking exhausting it has to be harder in 40s. That's me though, don't care when anyone else has kids!

Yeahnah2020 · 18/01/2020 23:31

No. You do realise celebrities are doing ivf and using donor eggs from 20 year olds right?

Ladycoo1 · 18/01/2020 23:34

I did at 43. Second baby . Best thing I ever did for me, my husband and most of all my 4 year old boy who now loves his little sister. Good luck in what ever you decide 😊

CeibaTree · 18/01/2020 23:34

Just give it a go OP - you may or may not be successful, but you will regret not trying. Good luck :)

happycamper11 · 18/01/2020 23:35

If I only had one child I'd not even question it. For me I knew i needed at least 2. I'm 40 now and wouldn't rule out a 3rd completely but the driving desire went with #2 I'm so happy I have them both. 2 more years wouldn't change my mind

KC225 · 18/01/2020 23:37

I had twins a week before my 43Rd birthday. They will be 13 this year. Great fun

K0612 · 18/01/2020 23:38

Yes I would, as a good friend had her second at 43 and she doesn't seem too old at all... It might not work so if I were u I'd just try. I think my personal cut off would be 45.

TurkeyBasterHopeItWorks · 18/01/2020 23:38

I'm 40 and still trying for our first. I'd say go for it! As another poster has said you may regret not trying and life is too short for regrets. Good luck x

Dylaninthemovies1 · 18/01/2020 23:39

No. But I’m fat, and hated pregnancy

Fink · 18/01/2020 23:54

I'm not 42 yet so I can't say how I'd feel then, but the way I feel now (39) I would absolutely love to have another. I can't imagine I'd go from this to a definite no in 2 years (pregnant at 41 to give birth at 42). I won't actually have any more, owing to circumstances, but I still dream about it.

aroundtheworldyet · 19/01/2020 00:15

Amazing the amount of women that come on here and say. Goodness I wouldn’t. But I had 5 kids by the age of 30! I’m too knackered now...

I mean ffs. It’s hardly a comparison is it!

Cryingoverspilttea · 19/01/2020 00:16

No. Far too old tbh.

Aus84 · 19/01/2020 00:21

No, but only because I had children young. By 42 I'm hoping to have my life back!

BluebellCockleshell123 · 19/01/2020 00:25

I would. But only if it was my first or if I’d started later and wanted a 2nd.

Babbabump · 19/01/2020 00:26

Currently I'd say no - I'm 31 and about to have my 2nd.

However, a few years ago I said I'd never have another over the age of 25! Which is ridiculous so I'll probably feel that way when I get to 42 too!

You would be 62 when the child is 20 ..... I think that's ok.

I think if you're up for it and feeling well - go for it!!

Elle7rose · 19/01/2020 00:27

Yes definitely.

Brocollistalk · 19/01/2020 00:31

Absolutely no way on this earth. 30 would be my upper limit but that seems old to me Blush

caringcarer · 19/01/2020 00:34

If I wanted it and was in good enough health to care for it and could provide financially for it. Why not?

ittooshallpass · 19/01/2020 00:38

Yes I would and did!

Megan2018 · 19/01/2020 00:53

I have a 18 week old and I’m about to turn 42, so definitely. I had the easiest pregnancy and birth. Mumsnet is full of hysteria though about older parents.
My GP had her 3 at 39, 41 and 45 so is much more supportive and says the risks are overstated.

bitheby · 19/01/2020 01:08

These threads are so difficult to read for those of us who haven't met the right person and don't have children yet in our 40s. No way to hide them as they keep popping up in active.

DioneTheDiabolist · 19/01/2020 01:12

No. Far too old tbh.

Well it's obviously not too old for the women that have them.Confused

noneedtoberudedear · 19/01/2020 05:23

I’m 41 with 15 month old twins and I’d love another one! It’ll never happen because of my circumstances but it an ideal world I’d be thrilledSmile
