Would you have a baby at 42?

Stolen off another poster! I have a nearly 6 year old and considering giving them a sibling but not sure this is a good idea given that I'd be 42 by time the baby was born. Celebrities are doing it left right and centre but what about us mere mortals, is it a bad idea?

No I wouldn’t but I’m not you!

wheniwonder · 18/01/2020 20:05

Absolutely do it but plan for the exhaustion

Cauliflowerpower · 18/01/2020 20:10

Yes

Shopkinsdoll · 18/01/2020 20:12

Of course I was 40.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/01/2020 20:12

Not a chance in hell.

AliTheMinx · 18/01/2020 20:12

Personally no, but I know many who would! I had my DC at 33, and he is amazing but I have found it tiring. I had a very traumatic birth, which didnt help. Good luck!

Antihop · 18/01/2020 20:14

I'm 42 and ttc number 2. Already have a 5 year old.

zippyswife · 18/01/2020 20:15

I had my third at 38. That was the latest for me. To be honest even though I keep fit and healthy etc I feel wrecked and old. I’m 41 now and definitely couldn’t cope with a newborn.

Having said all this each to their own. And good luck with whatever you decide.

georgialondon · 18/01/2020 20:18

I would

LouScot · 18/01/2020 20:19

Yes, absolutely. I hope to! Ideally I'd have been ten years younger, but life doesn't always work out the way we plan or hope. I think there will always be the 'oh she's too old' views, but if it feels right go for it.

Deadposhtory · 18/01/2020 20:21

I did and it meant a big age Gap. It was hard as I'm a single mother, but worth it

Mulledwineinajug · 18/01/2020 20:28

Without a doubt

Isawthathaggis · 18/01/2020 20:29

Yes, without giving it a second thought

Mylittlepony374 · 18/01/2020 20:29

No. Not a chance. Had one at 38 and was/ am exhausted.

Stephminx · 18/01/2020 20:30

Not if I already had one - the risks are too great.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 18/01/2020 20:31

How do you know you would be 42 at the time of birth. Surely that just assumes you will fall quite quickly. So how long would you be prepared to try for?
Just the one year or are you likely to get set in the ttc mindset and before you know it 3 years and a lot of heartache has passed and still no baby.

I would think if you did go ahead with ttc you should know what you cut off point is whether it be age or miscarriage.

Timeforanamechangeagain1 · 18/01/2020 20:33

I am 40 and TTC number 2, I have had some problems (including two recent miscarriages) so I would but with full awareness of the risks. Can I say if it's not happened by 42 I'll have completely given up. Hand on heart I can't. The heart wants what the heart wants.

TheFormidableMrsC · 18/01/2020 20:34

I did. Much easier pregnancy and birth than my first at 29. What I will say is I found myself a single parent shortly after and it’s pretty hard work having an 8 year old dynamo DS at 50 😆

PuppyClub · 18/01/2020 20:35

I definitely wouldn't but then I'd had all 6 of mine by 28 so 42 seems really old to start.

TeeniefaeTinseltoon · 18/01/2020 20:35

Nope, I'm saying that as a 42 year old with a 6 year old son. I couldn't go back again to sleepless nights.

Tellingitlikeitisnt · 18/01/2020 20:36

No I wouldn’t
I found the physicality of being a parent more intense than I realised, and I was a very fit 28 year old when number one came.

I ached like a biatch after about 42 and would not want very young children now. And I am a fitness instructor and run ultra marathons so I’m not lacking in physical ability.

The sleepless nights would kill me too.

londonrach · 18/01/2020 20:36

Had my only at 41 after ten years...had easy pregnancy birth but everyone different

LuckyAmy1986 · 18/01/2020 20:37

No way, couldn’t think of anything worse. But that’s personal preference. Do what suits your family.

GetUpAgain · 18/01/2020 20:38

I'm 42, my dc are teenagers and I've always worked a demanding full time job. I think if I didn't have children yet, I would have the energy for having a first baby, but as it is I'm fucking knackered!

Rubixcuube · 18/01/2020 20:40

I had first dc at 26 and second at 31. DH wants us to try and at 39 I don’t really feel like I could manage.

I guess if we had more family support etc then it wolves a bit easier but there’s just us.

My two are amazing and I love them more than the world but I feel too old really now. I’m always tired etc... and I think it would finish me off lol.
