Laurence Fox on Question Time

SuckingDieselFella · 17/01/2020 20:00

It isn't ok to try and shut anyone up with remarks about their skin colour. It doesn't matter if that skin colour is white, black or green with purple spots.

His fellow actors have been told to "denounce" him. It looks like he can wave goodbye to his career. What lovely tolerant people the ultra woke are.

OP

Do you think what he said was right?
Do you think that we are a tolerant country?

You are throwing in the odd remark but you aren’t telling us what you think about what he said.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/01/2020 21:44

Why did you start the thread if you aren’t going to be a full part of the discussion?

TheRealMcKenna · 17/01/2020 21:45

it seemed to me that the audience did too

Exactly. Demonise the white working class, label them as racist, thick and xenophobic for voting for Brexit and then wonder why they voted Tory in December. Keep doubling down on the message that they are racist and the left are sure to change their minds in 2024!

jaminthemiddle · 17/01/2020 21:45

@andyjusthangingaround

Good Lord. Do you actually know what racism is?

SuckingDieselFella · 17/01/2020 21:45

In what way am I not a full part of the discussion?

OP posts:
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/01/2020 21:46

You haven’t really expressed a clear view.
What do you think about what LF said?

LonginesPrime · 17/01/2020 21:48

White people making naive and ill-informed statements about the experiences of people of colour aren't inherently racist. I think LF's comment was tone deaf, arrogant and a bit stupid, but I wouldn't say it was racist.

And I know racism can be directed at white people too - I just don't think LF is one of them.

ChipsyChopsy · 17/01/2020 21:49

You can't invite opinion from someone and then shut down their opinion by stating they are wrong because their life experience is different. Isn't that why we canvas opinion? To get an overall view of perceptions and experience. His experience WILL be different, his perceptions of situations WILL be different. It doesn't make them wrong because opinion isn't an exact science.

derxa · 17/01/2020 21:49

Indeed they are, bit not all opinions are equal. If you have cancer, the opinion on treatment of the consultant oncologist with 40 years experience is worth listening to. The opinion of Vera who works in Poundland, not so much. But she thinks you should heal yourself with crystals, and she's entitled to her opinion.
That's not opinion vs opinion. It's fact vs opinion.

When talking about racism, the opinion of a white, upper middle class, successful actor, from a wealthy background of other successful actors, isn't worth a wank. Debatable. We should all say what we think.

SuckingDieselFella · 17/01/2020 21:49

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude You need to go back and read the OP again.

Shami Chakrabarti sent her son to Dulwich College (£20,000 per annum). An example of privilege. She is a classic example of Do as I say, not what I do. She is a hypocrite.

HeresMe · 17/01/2020 21:51

That's it the left are actively turning off moderates with the language being banded about, if you don't agree with my view you are a racist.

Meghan is disliked as she and Harry are a pair of self righteous pricks nothing to do with colour.

TheRealMcKenna

Apologies p, I should stop,posting

I meant, the idea of the Intellectual Dark Web seems like nonsense to me

It’s just unwoke opinions so people have given it a sinister label.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/01/2020 21:53

OP

I have read it and you are avoiding my questions
Why have you started this thread?
Do you think that LF is well placed to judge how tolerant the UK is?
Do you agree with what he said?

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 21:55

I think OP was very clear

WheresMyChocolate · 17/01/2020 21:56

Anyone who claims Megan hasn't faced racism in the UK is a complete knobber. One journalist posted a picture of a chimp and said it was her newborn baby FFS.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/01/2020 21:57

Well we are entitled to our opinion Autumn Wink and I don’t agree.

I can’t see any reason why the OP would have an issue with clarifying.

Aridane · 17/01/2020 21:57

We may or may not be a tolerant country - but the OP certainly isn't tolerant!

longwayoff · 17/01/2020 21:57

Twerp but nothing will damage a member of the Fox family. Theatrical royalty, darlings.

JellyfishandShells · 17/01/2020 22:00

His remark about carbon footprints and preaching actors was fabulous. Good on him for it being the usual woke lefty lovey

TheRealMcKenna · 17/01/2020 22:00

I hate the term ‘white privilege’.

I hate it because it’s damn obvious that it is not used to promote a more cohesive or equal society. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. It’s used to set one group against another.

If the ‘diversity studies’ departments in academia genuinelywant to increase diversity and equality in society then they should be employing some decent marketing strategies and focus groups to come up with some better tag lines.

I don’t actually think that’s what they want at all.

JellyfishandShells · 17/01/2020 22:00

For not, I mean

ChipsyChopsy · 17/01/2020 22:00

I am white, so my perception of what is and isn't racist is likely to be different. In the same way, I could tell a fellow woman a comment made to me at work and she would immediately identify a misogynistic undertone, whereas my male friend may not.

But that's not to say my male friend is a misogynist.

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 22:02

TheRealMcKenna agree with every word of your post.
