Does anybody else designate certain dishes to weekdays only and HATE having them on the weekend which should be a bit more ‘special’
Spag bol for example!!! That’s a weekday dinner!

AIBU? And also..... what’s your favourite weekend dinners? Grin

I definitely feel this. Not sure why 😅

I try to do a Sunday roast.

AnuvvaMuvva · 16/01/2020 10:10

Yes! But I'd put spag bol as a possible Saturday night dinner if it had garlic bread, salad, nice wine, etc.

I also specify foods by which day of the weekend. For example, a casserole might be ok for Sunday but NEVER on Saturday (unless it was a slightly more fancy one, like coq au vin, boeuf bourgignon, etc). Whereas Saturday would be fine for curry or fajitas, but those would be all kinds of wrong the next day.

inwood · 16/01/2020 10:10

Yep absolutely!

Agree re spag bol, most pasta actually. Chilli and rice is weekday, at the weekend would tend to turn it into nachos. No idea whhy it's different.

Our butcher does amazing burgers, thats a saturday night dinner, would never have it in the week. Curry is also weekend food.

Makes no sense at all!

Notonthestairs · 16/01/2020 10:11

Yes, I do this - is is not the law? Mid week meals = pasta, risotto or the beige food groups (fishfingers etc) with peas/broccoli/sweet corn.

Weekends I wheel out roast meats, roast potatoes, different veg from mid week (I'd never cook a sprout or cabbage midweek no idea why) or faffy things that involve lots of spices and side dishes. And bacon. Never have bacon midweek.

Candyapple49 · 16/01/2020 10:13

I am a teacher and spend a lot of time cleaning to others . That means all meals full of garlic ( I love garlic ! ) are saved for Friday and Saturday to save my pupils the fumes !

Gogolego · 16/01/2020 10:14

Yanbu
£10 meal deals . With the mains, side, desert and wine are a weekend food
Pizza is a weekend food

windycuntryside · 16/01/2020 10:16

What an odd concept. Food is food Monday or Sunday.

wowfudge · 16/01/2020 10:18

If you don't work weekends it's quite usual to spend more time on cooking if you have the time, which then means you have something fancier or more time-consuming to prepare. Or a treat you have more time to enjoy.

ClaudiaWankleman · 16/01/2020 10:22

What an odd concept. Food is food Monday or Sunday - You are so wrong @windycuntryside

Beans on toast is a wonderful Tuesday night dinner. It's filling, comforting and delicious.
Beans on toast on a Sunday night is sad, lonely and can only foreshadow a terrible working week.

Food is more than just nutrition, as humans have known for millennia.

KittenVsBox · 16/01/2020 10:23

Nope. Roast chicken tonight in this house.
My 8 year old did look very surprised when we had something we typically have in the evenings for lunch one day tho. I cant remember what it was. Maybe chicken wraps or something at lunchtime, where we usually eat them for tea?

Originalusernameunavailable · 16/01/2020 10:23

OMG I’m soooo glad I’m not the only one who lives this way!

If I had spaghetti bolagnaise on a Saturday night it would be a very sad affair!

Mrsjayy · 16/01/2020 10:25

Was just me and 1 dc on Sunday I made Fahitas it was just weird i thought I would be fine but Fahitas are not a Sunday dinner Hmm

JosefKeller · 16/01/2020 10:26

Beans on toast on a Sunday night is sad, lonely and can only foreshadow a terrible working week.

why? Weekends are even more busy than the week, and surely time to spend with your family, not faffing about in the kitchen! Beans on toast or crumpet are perfect for a Sunday night - or any night of the week you fancy.
It's just as bad as people saving all their cleaning and chores for the weekend, that's not a life.

hazeyjane · 16/01/2020 10:28

Yes definitely. Apart from soup, soup can be both weekend and midweek.

Kelsoooo · 16/01/2020 10:28

Honestly. I clicked into this thinking "what the fuck"

And then realised....you're definitely right.

Spag bol - weeknights.
Lasagne and garlic bread - Saturdays

For example that is haha. How weird?

SittingInMustard · 16/01/2020 10:29

Beans on toast on a Sunday night is sad, lonely and can only foreshadow a terrible working week

This is so bonkers and true, at the same time.

notacooldad · 16/01/2020 10:30

All my days blend into one so sometimes. I work over 7 days, so does my husband and son, although not in the same job or even industry! So occasionly it's easy to lose track of which day it actually is!
Therefore any day we all happen to be together is a big deal food day. The rest of the time it's make what you want, when you want!

Ledkr · 16/01/2020 10:31

Glad it's not just me.
Curry, fajitas, lasagne, nachos are Weeknd food.
In fact it's probably why I never lose weight despite eating well all week!!

Morgan12 · 16/01/2020 10:32

Yes!

Pizzas, curries and lasagne are weekend dinners.

Spag bol, chilli and fish and chips are Mon-Thurs.

Nearlyalmost50 · 16/01/2020 10:32

I don't do this, I think it's a miracle if we are fed any day of the week! I often do spag bol type dinners on the weekend.

cantfindname · 16/01/2020 10:37

I once served a beautiful home made steak and mushroom pie on Sunday. Even the pastry was home made and perfect.

You could have heard a pin drop when I put it on the table! Followed by a barrage of complaints of the "Where' the roast?" variety. Totally unappreciated.

TheDizzyRascal · 16/01/2020 10:39

yes! I absolutely love a jacket potato for lunch during the weekend but would NEVER have one at the weekend, I'd be angered by the suggestion I think! Weird isn't it! x

TheDizzyRascal · 16/01/2020 10:39

*during the week

Nigglesmiggle · 16/01/2020 10:41

This is so funny and true!

Although DH finds beans on toast after 1pm an abomination on any day of the week.

SinglePringle · 16/01/2020 10:42

Agree in principal but my spaghetti Bolognese takes around 4 hours to cook so it's most definitely a Saturday or Sunday dish here.
