AIBU to think I can lose 5 pounds (weight!)in 3 weeks?

My husband has announced a surprise holiday in three weeks. I am the biggest I have ever been. I should be excited bit I feel grotesque and know I will spend the whole time trying to cover up. However, if I lost, say 5 pounds I think it would make a real difference. Is it possible?! And if so, how?!! Please help me!

Hi OP - Google the Paleo diet. It's great to get a few pounds off quickly before/after a holiday or any other time where you overindulge a bit! I've already lost 3lbs since Monday. x

Not everyone should be eating 2000 per day. Work out your TDEE to find out your actual calories, to lose weight you need to reduce your tdee total by 20%

When you say ‘around’ 2000 it is actually ridiculously easy to underestimate unless you are actually weighing and logging everything.
Join My Fitness Pal and weigh & log every thing you consume and DONT eat back calories burnt off with exercise.good luck

Five pounds in three weeks is easy.

Just cut out any high sugar, high fat foods.

Fill up on lots of vegetable, cut out red meat, eat fish and chicken, complex carbohydrates and some fruit. And don't over fill you plate with anything except vegetables.

Don't go on some weird crash diet.

You just need to eat a sensible healthy diet without any crap.

No carbs before Marbs!!! You can do it. I would go virtually no carbs for two weeks and low carb for one week, you won’t even have to exercise much. Good luck!

My DH has lost half a stone in a week but with stomach flu....not recommended!

You can lose 5 lbs very quickly, but if you are quite overweight (11 stone on a short/small frame) then you'll only notice and 'feel' weight loss of 1+ stone, in my experience.

I can never understand why people talk about weight loss as 'just water'

Given that we're all 60% water, of course it is; 60% of every kilo we lose or gain, surely?

That said, you could probably lose 10lbs or even 15lbs in three weeks without resorting to anything too drastic or unhealthy, OP. Have a great holiday however much of you goes on it! 😉

Ooh ooh ohh! I love stuff like this. I’m always setting little targets like this for events and stuff.

If it were me I’d eat 10,000 calories a week for 3 weeks. 30,000 total. That means that if you mess up one day you make it up over subsequent days. I do this not infrequently and it’s pretty satisfying to achieve it plus then you can relax more on holiday!

You can do it on the keto diet. I lost 6lb in the first week. I was never hungry and ate really tasty food. There are apps you can download with loads of recipes. You can google and read about how/why it works. Good luck.

You could try the egg fast if you want to lose weight quickly. If you're more worried about your shape than your actual weight then exercising will tone you up. Have you ever tried the 30-day shred?

If it helps I've lost 5lb this year doing veganuary. No cheese, no biscuits and no cake, plus running at least 5k every day has dropped me into a smaller pair of jeans. You totally can do it. Good luck and have a fab holiday!

Iv just lost 9lbs in 2 weeks just from stopping snacking, eating properly, plenty of water and cardio.
FWIW I’m 5ft 2 and weight 10st 2, now 9st 7.

I used to feel like you Mitzi. I felt the need to cover myself up and felt bad about my body once I was over 30 and had had a (very large) baby. I couldn't equate my new body with how I was before. What worked for me was getting [quite a bit] older, so nobody takes any notice of what I look like, and having had several holidays in the Canaries.

The hotel we regularly stay at has a majority of German visitors. Over the years I've observed how they just do not care what they look like, what size they are, etc, they just get on with really enjoying life. They dance like mad people. They dress in strange ways. They live in the moment without worrying what people think of them, because it doesn't seem to enter their heads. I try to emulate them. It doesn't matter that you're not the perfect size, have the perfect features, etc, because the most attractive people are those who don't bother about any of that, but are simply interested in learning about their fellow human beings.

5lbs is easily water weight territory with pretty much any new diet plan/overhaul. So what you see on the scales is unlikely to be reflected in the mirror. I'd personally look to doing something like 30 day shred (or equivalent), focus on body weight exercises to trim inches. Yes, it's mostly diet vs exercise for weightloss, but a high intensity body workout (or even better heavy lifting regime), swimming a mile a day/spinning workout will serve you far better than dropping 5lbs.

If I want to lose weight for a party or some event I just cut out all carbs, alcohol and drink water it works for me to drop between 6-7lbs in a week.

Also swim/walk and eat well on your hols (I find salads so much more interesting in hot weather 😂). I lost half a stone on our last 2wks abroad, and fully expected to return a bloater considering how many cocktails I quaffed!

Doing a crash diet is so unhealthy and is more likely to cause you to binge eat and put on weight after it! Don’t do it to your body!

Treat yourself to a lovely new flattering bikini or swimsuit, I’d recommend Curvy Kate.

Yeah, I found a company kettle bell kitchen, it helped me, basically i was able to order precooked meals, delivered twice weeks, for about £90 per week including delivery. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. With a total of 1200 calories a day. Lost weight in no time and no cooking required.
