Breeder refusing to give me puppy or my money back

I’m not sure if I’m being u or where I stand on this.
DH and I have decided to get a puppy early feb. We have a 2 year old and another on the way but not due til summer. We have wanted a dog for ages and decided now is the best time as my DC has just started full time nursery, I’m not in work so I have plenty of time during the day to train and spend time with the puppy. For a few weeks after I give birth DH will be taking over walks but I will still be doing the training during the day and newborn will be joining me on school runs etc so my routine doesn’t change really. I’ve raised puppies before so I know what it entails and also obviously had a newborn before so I don’t see any great issues.
We went to view some puppies a couple of weeks ago with DC, chose a specific puppy, breeder was happy discussing diet and training etc and then asked for a deposit. I paid the deposit via bank transfer the next morning. She has now text me last night and said she had one of her friends (who is also friends with me via Facebook) to have a look at my Facebook profile and show her what was on it and she has seen that I’m pregnant and now is telling me I’m “deceitful” and she “can’t trust me with her puppy”. I didn’t think it was a huge deal and I was required to tell her I was pregnant? Obviously the puppy is going to a good home with us so I don’t see an issue. I completely understand wanting your puppies to go to a good home that will look after them but I wouldn’t have thought having a baby 6 months after purchasing a puppy was a big deal.
The conversation went on for about 20 minutes of her basically patronising me and saying that in 6 months I would be calling her to take the dog back. I eventually said to her to either tell me she’s happy for the puppy to come to us or she’s not happy for the puppy to come to us, she replied “I’ll speak to my partner and decide”. I have not heard from her yet so I text her again saying she needs to let me know or send me my money back, she has read the message and ignored it.
Am I in the wrong? What would you do?

How you getting on then OP?

Ownerofsmallpeople · 17/01/2020 14:30

Hi everyone. I think my message to her last night about small claims court and the police scared her a bit but she is still messing, she transferred half the money into my account this morning saying that the bank had only allowed her to send £100 and she would do the rest “later”. I’m pretty sure if the bank let’s you transfer 100 then they’ll let you transfer 200?
Anyway, she’s not sent the rest yet so I will see what she says in a couple of hours. At least it seems like I’m getting somewhere now and she’s being quite polite over text now.

Not sure if I mentioned that I had reported her online advert to the website support team and said what had happened - they replied saying they had received other complaints about her doing the same thing and that if I wanted to contact the police then they’d be happy to share her details and complaints from other people with them (not sure how many other complaints there were).

I don't know of any bank that has a limit to bank transfers, though I'm happy to be corrected. It sounds like she's still pulling a fast one.

zoobincan · 17/01/2020 14:35

Erm, she gave you half or she gave you £100 Confused

DeathByPuppy · 17/01/2020 14:41

Sounds like horseshit

My bank (Lloyd’s) limits faster payment bank transfers to £25k at a time, limited to £250k per day. Or £50k per transaction if transfer to another Lloyd’s customer (£250k daily limit).

A few hundred quid is fuck all in terms of bank transfers.

saying that the bank had only allowed her to send £100

I suspect the bank is only allowing her to transfer £100 because that's all she has available to spend.

I think I did have a limit of £250 per day for transferring to a new payee through my NatWest phone app, but IIRC, the solution was to log in online and transfer it from there. Or wait until the following day and transfer the difference.

Sorry I know 100 isn’t quite half don’t know why I even typed that Blush but yes she sent £100, still waiting on £200

GiveHerHellFromUs · 17/01/2020 15:41

On the plus side it means she can no longer claim it's non-refundable as she's proved she intends to pay it back

Ownerofsmallpeople · 17/01/2020 15:41

Yes then she said something about going home later to get the rest of the cash and transfer it..Confused
And yes the Pet advertising website support team said that unfortunately there had been other complaints for this particular seller and that her account has now been blocked. I did look for the advert and it’s been taken down. They provided the reference number for the advert to pass on to the police.

@GiveHerHellFromUs yes that’s what I’m thinking, she has obviously taken responsibility for the refund as she’s made a payment now and I also have messages from her saying she will pay it back..

OP posts:
GiveHerHellFromUs · 17/01/2020 15:43

Definitely follow that up OP. It will hopefully mean she stops breeding irresponsibly!

Tellingitlikeitisnt · 18/01/2020 09:19

Yes let’s hope she stops breeding irresponsibly and you stop buying irresponsibly

SusanneLinder · 18/01/2020 09:24

And if you want a dog, get one from a reputable breeder, or even better rescue. However in both cases, you will have to pass their suitability checks.

namechangenewness · 18/01/2020 09:24

She doesn't have the money or is trying to hang on to it. My bank allows 75k in one transaction.

GabsAlot · 18/01/2020 09:42

Sounds like a big con if shes done it to others takes their money then makes excuses why she cant sell

BendyLikeBeckham · 20/01/2020 11:39

she is indeed scamming you OP. Hope you get your money back.

IncrediblySadToo · 03/06/2020 12:27

@Ownerofsmallpeople

Any update? Did she pay you? Are you still getting a puppy?

covidco · 03/06/2020 14:14

Any update.

I will say however that Natwest and Nationwide have limits on how much you can send to newly set up recipients if you do it via the app. I can't remember what the limits are as it's a while since I did it, but they are pretty low.

LateToThePuppyParty · 20/03/2021 23:40

I know it's been forever, but what happened? I'm in a mess with a pig breeder right now that's not responding and I'm emotionally invested now. :) Also a lot of these comments are really mean. I'm a nurse with 2 kids and I had dogs before, during, now. My dogs and kids are all just wonderful and happy. :)

prawntoastie · 21/03/2021 01:02

im going to be honest and unbiased
she should give you deposit back back so many people have a child then want to give up their pet, even a cat who is no bother.
Cat/kitten prices are at 400 plus pounds it is disgusting! in about 2 years time I can bet there will be several homeless cats due to people buying kittens in lockdown and getting bored or having a baby.

a dog is even worse! more time and effort!
she isn't wrong but she should defo give the money back

prawntoastie · 21/03/2021 01:04

As im on this thread want to make people aware of deposit scams, giving deposit via bank transfer for a suppose cat/dog but there is none then they breeder disappearing

unless its in cash, PayPal (not family/friends option) do not do it!
