Out of hours Doctor has missed something?

Since September/October I have had a headache over my right eye, this week I developed neck pain. In the last 24 hours the head pain has increased and this morning I have woken up with a fairly large haemorrhage in my eye. Looking back the head pain may have started at the same time as starting lamotrogine. My dose was increased yesterday.
Doctor said they were 3 separate issues and couldn't see why it would be connected to the lamotrogine and nothing significant was wrong. AIBU to think he may have missed something? Or am I just being a hypochondriac and should trust host opinion? I don't want to make a massive fuss!

I would get a second opinion, though I'm on lamotrogine and have never heard of something like this happening - but there are loads of things listed on the very rare side effects. If you think something's not right, to make a fuss.

Don’t worry about making a fuss, if you’re in pain there is a reason for it. I would Get an emergency appointment booked at the opticians for Monday- they can check the back of your eye and also notify them of the medication you’re on. The optometrist you see will have authority to refer you to the hospital if there’s a problem with the eye with you saying there’s the haemorrhage . I wouldn’t leave it, I would get it checked. If need be get a second opinion at the doctors. If it’s down to medication then maybe they could look at changing it as you shouldn’t have to live in discomfort. Don’t worry about making a massive fuss! You have to look after yourself first and foremost.

That's a pretty strange reaction from the doctor you saw.
Headaches are a known side effect of Lamotrigine.
As are unexpected haemorrhages.

Have a look at [[https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/lamotrigine/this]]

I'd be insisting on a Drs appointment first thing Monday morning.
Unless the neck pain, or your general condition worsens, or any further haemorrhages happen, before Monday, in which case you need to see a Dr sooner. A&E if that's the only way to see a Dr.

Maybe consider a walk in centre tomorrow.

No, you're NOT making a fuss; this isn't right, and needs looking into.

I trust you've been told that stopping taking this medicine has to to be done under medical supervision, don't take this into your own hands.

All the best.

Make a fuss, hope you get a more informed response.

Are you on your own, or is there someone with you the rest of this weekend?

Orangesandlemons82 · 11/01/2020 22:11

Thanks for your thoughts about this. I'm glad it's not just me that thinks the Doctors reaction was surprising. My husband is with me this weekend. I will definitely get seen on Monday, but if it gets worse I will get seen again tomorrow.

@flouncyfanny I had it checked recently and it was normal, but thank you for the suggestion

Optician is a great idea- plus many will be open tomorrow so I’d nip to your local shopping centre tomorrow and see what they think...

Doctors are only human and whilst they do their best we can never assume that they are 100% right. If you are worried you should always get a second opinion if you are worried

RaspberryIsMyNameToo · 13/01/2020 18:02

@orangesandlemons82 did you get any further with Dr's today?

Orangesandlemons82 · 14/01/2020 11:15

@RaspberryIsMyNameToo yes, I did, thank you. The GP agreed there may be more to it, so has referred me on to a neuro consultant.
