I’ll give you a pass for off white.

Please someone tell me they also remember when the woman posted her roast dinner on a clear see through plate? #wistful

snickers69 · 12/01/2020 18:13

Yay! White and white only

Barney60 · 12/01/2020 18:31

I HATE white, walls kitchens crockery, so its a big fat NO from me, but I do like a china plate.

Boujee · 12/01/2020 18:43

White but square 🤦‍♀️

MaxPaddyandHarry · 12/01/2020 19:03

Plenty of white at IKEA I suppose.

Violinist64 · 12/01/2020 19:04

When we got married (1989) we had M and S Harvest as our everyday set (as did many, many other people) and Royal Doulton Candice for best, which we still have but our everyday set is now Portmeirion Botanic Garden. I have also since inherited a couple of beautiful teasers from my grandparents. I personally do not like plain white sets as l find them boring.

Sparklesocks · 12/01/2020 19:07

I wouldn’t judge anyone for what type of plates they had but I judge a sad git who thought it was important!

ChristmasConcert · 12/01/2020 19:09

I inherited my gran's Royal Doulton 'Old Leeds Spray' dinner set which I do love - but only for special occasions as I have to hand wash it.....Sad. However - it is mainly white, and nearly round.....Grin

I see some pieces for sale for £20 each (mine is of varying quality but there's a lot of it) but I'd hate to split it up. Hopefully my children will be happy to take it on......

NemophilistRebel · 12/01/2020 19:16

Because mylifestory - it’s a forum and someone has started this topic as a point for discussion
You really don’t need to join in if you find it unnecessary

Every plate has a different pattern in my house. But a clear plate is an abomination, on that much I can agree. My parents had smoked glass coffee cups!!!

Lanaa · 12/01/2020 19:18

Nope, I do have some white ones which I use if I need to use the microwave but otherwise I love eclectic patterned and textured ones. I have various half sets of old fashioned china, which I've bought in charity shops. My fave is a set of Doulton Camelot. A huge collection of pretty bowls and plates from TK Maxx and some lovely patterned stuff from Whittards. All about colour and parr ten extra points for a gold rim.

FiddleFigs · 12/01/2020 19:24

I couldn’t wait to replace our boring white John Lewis bone china set (wedding gift). White crockery seems so institutional. We now have Burleigh Calico - food looks lovely off the deep blue and white crockery.

NemophilistRebel · 12/01/2020 19:28

I love looking up all these lovely crockery patterns you are all coming out with

Burleigh Calico is lovely

Also loving the throwbacks to the M&S wedding gifts

Violinist64 · 12/01/2020 19:30

I remember when every village and church hall in the country seemed to have blue or green beryl ware; smacked of utility/wartime. Thankfully, most of these have been replaced in recent years.

HopelessLayout · 12/01/2020 19:33

I love Beryl Ware! Reminds me of my gran.

purplebunny2012 · 12/01/2020 19:37

Our best set is grey

crystal1717 · 12/01/2020 19:40

I like floral patterns. Why do they have to be white.
What fascist totalitarianism is this?

Curlycupid · 12/01/2020 19:42

i love my Denby Halo set, the plates are white in the middle, with blue/grey and black edging, bowls are black and speckled grey/blue. I love them, perfect offset for the red accents in my kitchen and dining room.

Curlycupid · 12/01/2020 19:43

Took me bloody ages to find a dinner set I loved!! I think people should go with their heart when it comes to decor 😁

AwkwardSquad · 12/01/2020 19:44

We have vintage English blue and white china, a variety of patterns but united by the blue and white theme. It’s lovely and it doesn’t matter much if a piece gets chipped or broken as it’s not a matched set. We did use a white porcelain service for a while but we got bored of it.

purplebunny2012 · 12/01/2020 19:45

My sister has black, square crockery. I find it awkward to stack when I'm visiting

wonkylegs · 12/01/2020 19:47

I do like white plates mainly for ease but I don't begrudge a bit of colour or pattern
We have 2 white sets and one set that is stone &white two tone ones and they are all fairly neutral, nice and very easy to live with. The two tone one must be nice because my cleaner asked me where she could buy it as she loved it so much and it would go with her new kitchen.

My mum has a gorgeous vintage Denby set from the late 70's that is a beautiful shade of blue with white and abstract blue flowers with orange/brown centres in a gorgeous pattern - sounds horrible but it's truly stunning.

DartmoorChef · 12/01/2020 19:49

As a chef I absolutely detest patterned plates. But I do love my blue dinner plates at home.

Completely agree op, all my crockery is plain white for 2 reasons: broken pieces can be easily replaced, and secondly I can't stand eating off a coloured or patterned plate! Can't drink out of a mug if it's not white inside either! At work they purchased a load of blue mugs for the staff room, I had to bring my own in!
