I'll start, mine are:

"Boys will be boys"

"Think outside the box"

"Blue sky thinking" this makes my blood boil when someone says it at work.

OP posts:

Yes, I used to get School days are the best days of your life. Used to think it was pretty bad if this was as good as it gets. Have to agree the filling with arms and legs is the worst of some really bad sayings.

LeSquigh · 13/01/2020 15:59

“My folks” when discussing parents. Shudder.

Amortentia · 13/01/2020 16:06

Not a phrase as such but ‘Bad boy” generally only uttered by over 40s 😂. Please stop saying this, you sound ridiculous.

TrickyD · 13/01/2020 16:47

To be honest with you. Usually pronounced ‘tubbyonisswivyu’ .

We have a close friend who says this repeatedly, I start mentally counting but give up when we get to double figures.

Also gifted, gotten and pressies for presents.

springydaff · 14/01/2020 14:02

When politicians say "Look! [pause]" then go on to make their point, like we're complete idiots. I've stopped listening after the Look!

OscarVictorEcho · 14/01/2020 15:17

"Let me be clear"

Only politicians seem to say this, and then follow it up with a sentence that makes no sense at all!

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/01/2020 21:23

"winning an auction"....no, you don't win at an auction, you were just prepared to pay more than any other bidder.

Phipho · 14/01/2020 22:15

'Moving forward'
'This moment in time'

WhoWants2Know · 14/01/2020 22:30

"Identify as" is beginning to grate on me.

I see what OP is saying about "it is what it is", but my view on that phrase has changed a bit after watching The Irishman. Now the expression gives me chills.

MsTSwift · 14/01/2020 22:42

“A bite to eat” - in laws say it don’t know why but it’s really annoying

Agree “boys will be boys” is awful as is “all the trimmings” twee

“Brexit means Brexit” meaningless nonsense

icannotremember · 16/01/2020 14:49

I heard someone say "a tapered trouser" this morning and I wanted to hit them (I would never actually assault someone), I didn't realise people actually said things like that IRL

Welcome to my world

girlicorne · 21/08/2020 18:49

I despise bubble when used in covid speak and I want to throw my phone out of the window when I see it used as a verb (bubbling, bubbled) 😡😡😡😡 i also hate self isolating surely it’s just isolating? And social distancing why isn’t it just distancing??? And flocked as in flocked to beaches/beauty spots etc.
Prior to covid speak my most hated were nomnomnom and off of where just off suffices!!
My 12 year old has just started dating ‘and whatnot’ at the end of every sentence which is quite annoying.
I am in a really bad mood today!!

girlicorne · 21/08/2020 18:50

*saying not dating!

ScrambledEggForBrains · 21/08/2020 18:53

T’s and C’s!
ITS TERMS AND CONDITIONS LAZY GIT😡😡😡😁

BritWifeinUSA · 21/08/2020 18:55

Call someone out on something...

To be fair/to be honest - implies that at all other times you’re not fair or honest.

Gaslighting - not saying it doesn’t exist and isn’t serious. It absolutely is. But it’s way overused these days and every little snarky or rude comment that people previously didn’t pay any attention to or laughed off has now become gaslighting.

Newfornow · 21/08/2020 19:26

Keep me in the loop
Touch base
Singing from same hymn sheet
Call me on my cell
Boobing the baby
We’re pregnant
To the moon and ... actually don’t come back
