Is it just me, or is anyone else not good enough for posh toiletries?

Aibu in thinking posh toiletries are wasted on me, and re-gifting them or giving them to a raffle or charity shop so someone proper can enjoy them?

I was given a few sets for Christmas. I was having a bath the other day, without a small child for once, and I thought for a second about putting one of the bath bombs in for a bit of luxury. But then I thought no, that'd be wasting it! Someone could enjoy that!

I feel a bit like the opposite of the loreal ad. I'm not worth it! Is it just me?!

Yanbu: Give the stuff to someone else
Yabu: waste use them on myself

But would you enjoy it? Or would you put the bath bomb in, jump in the bath and out again after 30 seconds and rinse it down the plug hole?

annualleavepurchase · 10/01/2020 22:47

Send it all my way.

PlanDeRaccordement · 10/01/2020 22:48

I misread your question at first. You see most posh toiletries are not good enough for me. I just find them very chemically and the perfume too overpowering. I don’t enjoy smelling like a basket of flowers. But, yes YABU if you would enjoy them but don’t let yourself.

PetPeter · 10/01/2020 22:49

I never use them either - partly because I’m waiting for a special occasion that never comes, and partly because my bar of Tesco’s soap (4 bars for £1) does the job perfectly.

QueenofPain · 10/01/2020 22:51

PlanDe - if they smell overpowering they’re probably not that posh at all. There’s a real art to subtle luxury.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 10/01/2020 22:52

Do you like them?

You’re totally worth it.

But if they’re not your sort of thing, give them away, and plan a treat that’s more ‘you’.

You deserve nice things as much as the next person.

FloRiders · 10/01/2020 22:54

Use them up.

lunkitsmum · 10/01/2020 22:55

🙋me! They sit in the draw till they've gone to shit because they are too good to use willy nilly. I've got stuff that's older than my teenager. Should probably have a clear out .

Ohyesiam · 10/01/2020 22:55

Really really really posh = bring it on

Cheap stuff marketed as posh ( like the Tommy Hilfigure shite my dd got fit b Christmas from her bf )!= no way and detox the bathroom after.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 10/01/2020 22:56

Use them.

Not every charity will accept toiletries unless they’re clearly unopened/sealed, not sure if your stuff is or not.

Notajogger · 10/01/2020 22:58

I do this. Wait until I'm "good enough" to use them, so they sit there for years in most cases and go off eventually. Ridiculous, I realise.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 10/01/2020 22:58

depends what brand and what it is.
Bath bombs and fizzy of any brand would be wasted on me as I only shower but L'Occitane Verbena or almond shower oil would be hid from the rest of the family with threats of death for anyone caught using them.

LaMarschallin · 10/01/2020 22:59

I voted YABU but I act in a similar way myself.
I don't regift them or anything (too mean) but I do save them "for best". And in the meantime use up, say, cheap bath stuff while the Jo Malone sits there waiting for a "special enough" occasion.

My mother used to say: "Better to wear out than rust out" and she was totally right.

CastleCrasher · 10/01/2020 23:00

If you like them, use them! I used to do exactly what you're doing, so totally get it. I honestly can't remember what made me change, but now I use the luxury stuff and really feel a benefit from it. You are more than good enough for it!!

Pompei36 · 10/01/2020 23:00

No offence but very few posh toiletries are coming packed as sets , sets are high street and there’s nothing posh about them

SleepDeprivedElf · 10/01/2020 23:00

Honestly, when I see my friends' £25 hand creams I just think exactly the same.

Pompei36 · 10/01/2020 23:02

Not coming I was meant to say

brittabot · 10/01/2020 23:02

Use them, except the bath bombs because they’re hideous.

LaMarschallin · 10/01/2020 23:03

No offence but...

Why does that always precede an offensive statement?

BorissGiantJohnson · 10/01/2020 23:03

Oooh questions: it's not really really posh stuff, just stuff you get in special gift packaging (and posher than the Tesco own bulk soap I'd normally use)!
Yes I would have enjoyed it. I should have put the bath bomb in the bath, it just seems like a bit of a waste because I didn't need to and someone could have enjoyed it. But then I could have enjoyed it. But then it'd have been wasted.

To turn it around, no one buys me any posh stuff so I guess I'm not good enough. Plays tiny violin

managedmis · 10/01/2020 23:03

I can use fancy shampoo, but not cremes etc.

Protestant guilt n all that

BeeFarseer · 10/01/2020 23:05

This is really sad to read. Of course you're good enough!

Don't be one of those people who lives their life too scared to enjoy it.

darthbreakz · 10/01/2020 23:06

What are bath bombs for anyway? Serious question. I've always thought of them as crap people give people for Christmas.

Personally with toiletries, I knows what I like and I likes what I know.

BorissGiantJohnson · 10/01/2020 23:08

Oh and yes they're all sealed. Maybe that's the problem. As a kid we weren't allowed to open anything new. Like cereal or milk. If something was open we could have some, but we weren't allowed to open a new packet of anything. I think I've just discovered a childhood psychological hangover!
