to think that nobody can play cards these days?

I'm talking about Jacks and aces etc. in case some of you don't know!

When I was a kid, usually my Grannies would play cards with us kids, but sometimes we'd play it as a family and some of my happiest memories are of playing cards.

I know of no-one now who plays really - particularly in England anyway.

Did any of you play cards?

The game we loved was a game called 25 - it's tactical as well as down to luck a bit. We'd often go to visit my aunt and uncle for a night of playing cards and we'd be allowed to play - but EATEN ALIVE for not playing for the table.

I'm also a pretty mean poker player.

Me and my DH play cards all the time. Our friends come over to play too. My favourite is Black jack.

My Dad was particularly good at it. He was also good at chess - no idea where he learned to play chess.

Can't speak for England but north of the border we know how to play cards.

I can't think of anyone over the age of about five who doesn't know at least a couple of basic ones.

I favour whist games myself, also like Chinese Patience, sometimes play Poker (either Texas Holdem or Five Card Stud), occassionally play Pontoon with my six year old nephew, Bastard Brag is fun. I avoid Rummy though, my husband and mother are both far too good at it.

Ye, my ideal evening of entertainment now would be a night of poker and drinks rather than dinner and drinks (cos I'm a shit cook), but nobody in London that I know actually plays cards at all.

I didn't really grow up playing cards because they were "gambling games and we don't gamble, it's the work of the devil".

I'm pretty decent at Texas hold em poker apparently, but don't know the rules and have a great poker face.

I'll have to ask my nan to teach me some games. While my mum is there so she can have a fit.

I love playing cards but I can never remember the rules! I can obviously remember the basic ones... I'd love to learn more card games though.

We had American relatives who thought us a game called Jackass. Lord we had such fun with that. My mother even made a hat with donkey ears that you had to wear when you were the jackass.

Apparently when my husband started school he 'impressed' his teachers with his ability to count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King.

Yes we play cards, it’s a great thing to do with teenage DC. We used to play bridge, that seems to be dieing out amongst younger people.

My DS & his friends play cards at uni.

My 8 year old taught us a card game that they play at school, the other day. We play a lot of poker, brag and of course, the ultimate game of shithead (although we might have renamed it "poohead" in our house). Think cards are still very much alive and kicking!

My friends and I play poker all the time. I taught DD strip jack naked whilst on hols a few months ago, DF taught me cribbage recently and DSis and I love a game of fan tan!

I love playing cards. Me and DH always take a deck with us when we go on holiday. We play slam (spit), shithead and rummy usually. In a bigger group I know how to play hearts, whist, bridge and up & down the river. If anyone can recommend any other ones that are good with just 2 players I’d love to learn some more!

All my elder relatives were absolute sharks. I suppose 80-100 years ago, it was a great way of entertaining themselves. But boy did they take it seriously!

My family are big card players. Even my granny, she encouraged us to gamble with sweets Grin she claims it was to help us learn numbers.

Even with my friends, we love playing cards. The best game is "shit head". I've had a great nights playing that game.

Bf and I love playing cards - at home drinking wine after dinner or on holiday! I'm rubbish at remembering how to play games though. We play shithead and spite & malice

Yes I always used to play cards with my grandparents, even as a small child.

Haven't played them for a very long time though as my last grandparent passed away over a decade ago.

What makes you think people don't? I've just never come across anyone here who knows how to play. I've been invited to dinners and such, but never to a card night.

DH and his family always played cards. We didn't but we played Mah Jong all the time instead as taught by my Singaporean grandmother. As soon as our DC are old enough we'll teach them that too. Maybe some card games as well.

Card games definitely better for playing whilst travelling.

We do play jeu de tarot which DH learnt at university and pre-DC we used to play in marathon sessions.
