Appointment with consultant after LLETZ/ LEEP

Hi, not really IABU I know but here for traffic. I had a LLETZ procedure after a colposcopy on 23rd December and was told I would receive a letter just informing me that I would need a smear in 6 months time.

I have a had a letter this morning telling me an appointment has been made for me on Monday with a Gynae Consultant. Is this normal? I am trying not to let my brain run away too much. If there was anything nasty would that not have shown on the colposcopy?

Does anyone have a similar experience?

Similar - I had a letz procedure. Was CIN111 SO they wanted to ensure they had removed all the affected cells, i had a repeat of the letz and that was it. Then six monthly smears at the gynae unit for two years. Yearly smears for ten years and now back on 3 yearly recall and have been for ten years +.

Stann86 · 09/01/2020 10:32

Completely normal. My first smear after LLETZ was back at the hospital, as all was fine then referred to GP for 6 monthly checks.

When I had mine done I just got a letter afterwards with my results and to tell me I’d need a smear in six months. I was also told my the consultant at the time that he was taking a lot more than the transformation zone to be safe and so less likely to have that follow up. But each NHS trust is different so please don’t worry. And you can always give them a call and speak to the consultant’s secretary for a bit more information about the appointment, I’m fact I might recommend that for peace of mind over the weekend x

Try not to worry. Which is difficult I know but it's in hand and will be sorted. They need to examine the cells in the lab to see where they are with it but if there had been anything really nasty it most likely would have been seen at the colcoscopy.

Mine was CIN 3 after the coops copy so that is why I had the Lletz was expecting a results letter but have had this appointment instead? Maybe the Lletz didn't have enough clear margins. Might give them a call.

Just called and the secretary said there was nothing on the comments.

I remember that i had to go back to have more cells removed - it was over 20 years ago so can't remember exactly, so might be the same for you? It was very much a belt and braces thing.

Not good news. Cancer found and have to have an MRI and chest xray to check it hasn't spread anywhere else. Will definitely need a hysterectomy and possibly lymph nodes removed. A bit shocked but going to take it one step at a time.

Flowers that's crap but at least it's found

Duckduckduck123 · 13/01/2020 15:01

What's the next step for you?

BadTimesAtTheElRoyale · 13/01/2020 15:06

Next step is an MRI and chest xray to ensure it hasn't spread. Then a meeting to discuss surgery and book a date. Thank you for the flowers.

Duckduckduck123 · 13/01/2020 15:11

How long will you need to wait?

BadTimesAtTheElRoyale · 13/01/2020 15:23

MRI and xray within 10 to 14 days. So not too long but that will be an anxious wait. Trying to stay level headed but I lost a friend on boxing day who was only diagnosed with breast cancer in October and her scan showed it had spread everywhere. She was only 38. So kind of fighting a slight panic at the moment.

@BadTimesAtTheElRoyale so sorry for your news and for your recent loss. I can imagine how awful and frightening things must be at the moment. However, it does sound the investigations are being thorough so fingers crossed that they've picked it up super early and that the outcome will be the best it can be. Be kind to your self over the next few weeks. Flowers Brew Cake

Hey bad times sorry to hear your news. It's all a bit of a rollercoaster isn't it?
If you need a bit more support, join the cancer thread on general health. The ladies in there are amazing and will help you every step of the way. I don't post there anymore as I'm coming to to 2 years from being diagnosed but I've made some amazing friends in there. All the best and good luck x

Sorry to hear your news op.
CC is normally very slow to progress, so hopefully it's been caught at a very early stage where it is relatively easy to deal with. A friend's wife was diagnosed following colposcopy, graded stage 2/3. She was treated via hysterectomy and removal of some affected lymph nodes - she made a full recovery and has been clear for about 8 years now.

Take some time out, treat yourself with kindness, and hopefully you don't have to wait long for your tests.
Good luck 🍀💐

TheGirlFromStoryville · 13/01/2020 16:44

Also Jo's Trust has excellent advice and a very helpful forum x

BadTimesAtTheElRoyale · 13/01/2020 16:49
